Federal funds are being used to build segregationist highways, and “federal policy” is to blame, former Vice President Joe Biden says on his presidential campaign website.

On a page titled “Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force Recommendations,” Biden outlines strategies he shares with Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) for “pursuing environmental justice.”

Jesus, even highways are racist... Term is so overused as to have NO meaning anymore. If one admits to being a racist are they now free to exercise their 'white' privilege and tell people to go pound sand without worrying about being called a racissst.

Nobody said highways are racist. You’re the only one overusing it.

The myth of racism is becoming more and more ridiculous.

And most highways are in minority areas. Same with railroad tracks. The cities made deals with the railroads to only let minorities buy in those areas. This isn’t secret.

Seems to me like you just recieved your talking orders.

In anycase... prove your claim and prove that this is happening today.

Oh stop, neighborhoods grew into the railroad tracks naturally. Railroads follow rivers, pretty good property values.

Now the interstate system DID chop up neighborhoods. It was a cost and caused harm to a lot of city neighborhoods. It was a bad move and affected all types of neighborhoods, it wasn't race sensitive. It was cost sensitive like most projects of this scope are. Land acquisition costs.

Most times, it was geography that dictated location.

This has been studied in depth and we now take into account keeping neighborhoods together, have done so for the last 40+ years. We elevate roadways now where needed instead of cleaving a town in two.

It’s not the highways who are racist, are you denying that segregation was?

Correct Joe. Every state has at least two "No Darkies Allowed Interstate".

This guy makes Howard Dean look smart.

What? This has got to be one of your most uneducated posts to date.

Highways start out as small streets. Railroads needs to be near streets. As cities and towns grow, the oldest houses tend to be near where the original streets were. As towns grew the newer and bigger and better houses were away from the highways and railroads.

But feel free to show us the deal cities made with railroads to keep minorities near the tracks. If there is any truth at all to what you’re saying, it’s probably because cities made deals so PEOPLE could live near the tracks because they were the workers who tended to the railroads like my Irish grandfather did.

Ive asked this before, can you name something, anything, that isn’t racist.

    That’s just not true
Like many metaphors, "the other side of the tracks" was originally a literal epithet. Blacks were often historically restricted to neighborhoods separated from whites by railroads, turning the tracks into iron barriers of race and class.

Most highways are in minority areas? Most railroad tracks are in minority areas? Good grief. Most highway mileage and track mileage is in the rural countryside, not in minority areas as you said.

And you really think that railroads wouldn't let white people buy land near the tracks? There is way more railroad track in industrial and manufacturing areas than is in minority neighborhoods. Whites own way more land around railroad tracks than minorities do. Same can be said of highways.

Using what you wrote above, that most railroad tracks and highways are in minority areas, the two maps below would necessarily be accurate depictions of where minorities live in this country, right?

ROFL. Nearly every citizen that either owns an automobile or has a family member who owns an automobile or rides public transportation has used a highway, at least once. How is the mere existence of a highway racist?

I've been preaching about those dam highways for years and no body listened to me. Now the truth comes out!

Racist highways, finally this is common knowledge. Grab a pickaxe, this needs to be fixed.

    /end sarcasm.

It literally says that highways support segregation, when the very purpose of a highway is to bridge distances across cities and even States. So how do highways segregate people?

By creating a literal physical divide. I posted a link if you’re actually interested, or you can google it and get hundreds of them. This is far from a new concept.

They were already divided hundreds of miles anyway, at least now you can make the trip with your workable automobile of any kind.
