Interesting to note that it was the Trump administration that rescinded an Obama era policy to phase out cluster munitions with a poor dud rate.... Not unsurprising, but interesting...

You were responding to a post about US military stocks. Biden did NOT say America is “running out”.

 

Point of this thread is Biden never should have said anything regarding the state of the military’s ammunition.

 

Running low or running out of something is understood to be the same thing by most Americans so I’m guessing you’re not American? Point being Biden never should have said anything regarding the state of the military’s munitions.

You got any evidence that what he said was classified? I was reading about this months ago.

And we have been told by MAGA that POTUS has an absolute right to declassify anything. So no basis for any investigation.

 

I'm not particularly troubled by Biden saying aloud what should be obvious to any casual observer and, frankly, something that the media has opined on for more than a year. The issue of depleting our own munitions stockpile to supply Ukraine might be classified in some circles but it damned sure isn't a secret.

He didn’t say running out. He said low. And I’ve been reading for months that domestic production is ramping up because of the need to replace stocks that are running low.
It is not a secret.

 

OH for heavens sake. The 'arsenal of democracy" is no more spent now than it was under the previous Republican President (remind me who that was BTW) of the administration before that or the one before that etc etc etc. Munition stockpiles around the Western World were allowed to run down as a cost saving measure following the end of the cold war and the ensuring 'peace dividend'. On top of that none of the wars America had been involved in since then actively required the expenditure of prodigious amounts of artillery and mortar ammunition (or HIMARS.) being seen the the current struggle.

The US scaled back annual orders of these munitions decades ago and switched to JIT inventory management as an efficiency measure. Given the choice between investing in large munition stockpiles that might never be used or purchasing and maintaining new weapons systems what to you think the Joint Chiefs are going to do. For that matter what do you think the Politicians whose electorates depend on shiny new, big ticket, defense contracts are going to push for? And as is always the case anyone in the defense establishment who might have cautioned against this reduction was drowned out by 'experts' who sighted the dominance of US air power and the ability of precision strike weapons to substitute for massed artillery. And then of course the day comes when suddenly those costly stockpiles of ammunition are needed? All of a sudden everyone is ruing the day this policies were first implemented but no-one one wants to be the one who owns up to implementing them to begin with!

But that's right. Go on blaming Joe Biden. It's his fault all this happened. It doesn't matter US Ammunition stockpiles were at the same levels under Trump that they were under Biden before the war started, no good old Joe is at fault. Just like he's at fault when it rains on your barbecue or are late for work .
