Do you have to pay for testing in the US? In the UK we are given free test kits

It depends. I'm just outside Chicago, IL.

I can get a test at my nearest hospital for $300 (if asymptomatic) or
I can get tested for free through the ER (if symptomatic) or
I am required to get a test prior to in-patient or out-patient surgery. In the latter case, the facility requiring the test pays for it.

My guess is they will probably require the employee to pay for the test (or part of it) as a way to get people to acquiesce. Let's say the test cost $200 (national average). That's $800/month for X number of weeks/months. That might not sound like much but if somebody has been off work due to losing their job or business and just now getting back on their feet, it could push them right back into being unemployed or underemployed.

It really bothers me the way they are handling this whole thing.

Did you mean to link back to a post dated a year ago or link back to this thread which is current and no link to "a year ago this was a "conspiracy theory"?

I am surprised that you have to pay. The number of cases must be hugely under reported

I'm not sure. My theory is they do that to prevent people from showing up every day just because they are panicky. Anybody WITH symptoms can just go to the ER and it's covered. Well, I guess asymptomatic people could go the ER as well.

The ER test is the rapid response one (which I assume costs more). I'm not sure if the ones given outside the ER are that one though.

And, none of the doctors, specialists or clinics charge if they require it prior to surgery.

I don't really understand the point of it, tbh.

The link goes to a different but redundant thread. You never heard forced vaccines called a "conspiracy theory"? Seriously?

ALL RIGHTY!!! Lets see how this little bit of political kabuki plays out, especially considering the two biggest Democratic voting blocs, Hispanics and BLACKS, lead when it comes to distrusting the miracle "vaccine"......as an aside, I'm so damned tired of EVERYTHING being compared to abortion that I wish human females had evolved to lay eggs rather than give live birth!!!

Therefore, it's NOT a "choice". You're intelligent. I'm sure you understand that.

Republicans think it is, we will give them 6 weeks to get a vax, they should be able to choose in 6 weeks... or lose their jobs

People are allowed to think what they want to think. That doesn't mean they are correct in their thinking.

Most people can't afford to lose their jobs (or they wouldn't be working in the first place) so this is a RANSOM NOTICE. That's cool and all as that's how Republicans seem to roll but let's not pretend it's anywhere close to a "choice".

    Before Afghanistan.

Govt: There will be no vaccine mandate.

    After Afghanistan.

Govt: vaccine mandate except for the postal service that throws away Republican votes.

    the choice is 3 fold

    1. get the vax
    2 .get weekly testing
    3. quit

TX is setting the precedent, I think it's a slippery slope, but if the right wants to do it, then the left will too

yep, been there done that, the drug war and mandatory drug testing, the precedent has already been set

not to mention speed limits, seat belts, vaccines required for public schools, dietary recommendations, the list goes on and on

republicans finally get it...? Anti-abortion laws remove choice, do they want to now support the body my choice, or not?

Declaring war about 100 million Americans is certainly setting a precedent.

What I see happening is companies with 100 employees or just over will lay off to get below the 100 marker. We saw some of this with the ACA mandate on full time employees.
