A boot from the police parking ticket department is only a call away. That 20 feet could have ended up as a high speed chase which certainly would have endangered the public. Stupid decision on the cops part.

 

Your link does nothing to help the cops cases for shooting Brooks in the back while he was fleeing the scene of a crime unless the taser he removed from one of the cops was capable of firing more than once. But tasers are not lethal so shooting one cop would only have more charges on Brooks. But there was a second cop at the scene who would have prevented Brooks from going back to the incompacitated cop to get his gun. This in no way was a clean shoot.

 

It is true that on a per capita basis, black Americans do commit the most violent crimes, and, they do receive the most welfare handouts -- again, on a per capita basis. It must be kept in perspective that the blacks in the United States are 14% of the national population.

If you look up the case law which is a SCOUS decision, you'll see that cops can shoot felons who take off if they have a reasonable belief in which that felon is a danger to the cops or the public. You have a guy who fights with the cops, resists arrest and trys to shoot a cop with a taser in which just last week the DA said is deathly weapon. And I would agree with that, having 50K volts going through can, and has, killed people.

 

Apparently cars in Atlanta can only be booted if they are illegally parked and the police have to make a phone call (The "police parking ticket department" does not boot cars) to find a company that will come out and boot the car. There are times when the vehicle cannot be booted due to companies that boot cars are tied up on other calls and the wait times could be hours at a time; not an efficient use of police. In this case they couldn't legally boot the car since the car was not illegally parked.

 

First off, voltage doesn't kill, amperage does. When I am given proof the taser guns the cops had could fire more than once then I might consider Brooks getting shot in the back as necessary. If the tasers could only fire once and the cops knew it then it was an illegal use of a deadly weapon that killed Brooks because they would have reasonable belief Brooks was not a threat to them or the public. Brooks was trying to get home.

Right! And jumping out of a 20 story building won't kill you either....its the landing that kills you.

From what I understand, the car was in the line for drive thru service and it was blocking it which is why the car was moved. Obviously there were probably many other options they could have used, however keeping in mind the suspect would be arrested, using the one they used worked and wouldn't cost the suspect money out of his pocket. They were trying to be nice to the lad.
