Funny- Joe created the flood and changed policy to enable this crap, but you don't think he has the power to un-enable it. Kind of how your thinking keeps you off-track.

So do you believe that if Trump gets elected he can get the problem fixed with the existing laws. If so why did he have to use so many executive orders last time?

I don't think we agree on what is good for America regardless of how noble our intentions are.

Technology to count them and funnel them to a immigration center.

Gov. Abbot is using the technology available to restrict the flow.

This has been a topic of thought that has bothered me for a long time. The only thing I can think of is fanatics like in sports. They are treating politics like their favorite sports team and back them loyally regardless of their actions. The other obvious answer which apply more to the current right is religion. I have heard recent theories that political ideology in America has replaced religious ideology. Many evangelicals have intertwined their faith and politics together.

There's a saying- "If all else fails, read the instructions".

The instructions say that leaders must act in the best interests of the citizens, first. They make all decisions by that guideline, they make them honestly, and they make them openly- not hidden from the public.
Despite the huge volume of rules, only two are needed to fix this mess- the Oath of Office, and the Fiduciary Duty of Office. Get rid of anyone who will not support those things, and you have a clean, functional Congress. Then, it becomes a problem-solving machine instead of a circus.

I agree with your sentiment but if that is the requirement first we will never fix the border problem. It was the past generations that created all these rules you talk about and it is the current generation that suffers because of them. Why is it that boomers always expect the current generation to fix their mess?

You seem to be making assumptions about how the technology is going to be used based on a preconceived bias. I would assume the technology is intended to be use to restrict the flow of both illegals and drugs.

My definition of progress would be the lowering the flow of illegals and drugs into the country. BUT progress will be defined by the electorate. There cannot be a win for Biden if his bill does not make voters believe progress is being made. If the bill passes and nothing changes then how can it be a win for Biden. You may say his democrats may like it because they will support anything Biden passes but what about independents?

Why not, you've been wrong about this whole process. Listen to Democrats when they talk about how to fix the problem. 2000 more Border Patrol agents so they can do their job but that is why Republicans refuse to sign on. The Administration believes their job is to speed up the process, not to turn the hoards back. If you don't believe that then take a look at what they have the BP doing today.

I've been telling you all along. You accept the solutions offered by the Administration but they are just more of the same on a larger scale.

Only people of lowly intelligence cannot debate the subject and must attack others.

    Telling

But no — Biden cannot change the asylum process. Only congress can. But you and your staff are fixing that thankfully!

You're fooling yourself. It's not the rules that are the problem- it's the failure to follow them, and much of that is the result of the failure to enforce them.
"There ought to be a law" is a cry that pops up every time someone is unhappy with something. Laws properly done- are fair for all, serve the collective best interests of all, avoid imposing unfairly on minorities of any kind- but regardless of how good they are will never please everybody. But when we fail to support those we don't like- we have trouble. When we pass unfair, unbalanced, biased laws- we have trouble.

All comes down to how the character of the people in society shape the character of the nation.

The border should not be a problem. The law states that all entry must be via a port of entry, by a prescribed process. That is certainly reasonable to require.
IF any other scheme of entry resulted in sufficient consequence- there would be little to none.

You don't stop an undesired behavior by tolerating it. And- you can't be Mr Nice guy and enforce the rules at the same time, because will be dealing with people who have no intention of following rules.
It's like trying to pass laws to require respect in some form. You might change superficial visible things- but you intensify hostility. You cannot legislate respect, it must be earned, and voluntarily given.
No other way works. A lot of people who think it's owed to them disagree. No law can fix that either.

Take something as simple as classroom in a school. If order and respect is maintained, everybody has the opportunity to learn and grow, and it's a good experience.
When you put kids in the class that have no desire to learn and disrupt everything, they gain nothing by being there, but they prevent others from gaining too.

Solution- if you won't follow the rules, you don't get to play the game. This is a black and white dividing line, not a negotiable one. It makes systems of all kinds work very well- but it takes good leadership to put in place and support. We don't have that. When we are ready to enforce the rules, the game will work again. Starts at the top, where the examples and role models are set.

My trust is in the political process. I trust that conservatives like James Lankford are negotiating a deal that reflect my interest. I trust when senators say this is the most monumental deal on immigration is 30 years and we will never get such a good deal again to be speaking from their experience. Essentially I trust the political process and that is why I participate. I have not seen the bill but then neither has most people BECAUSE it is not even done yet. My whole beef was there we reports that Trump wanted to kill the deal because he did not want to hand Biden a win. Not because the bill was bad but because of his own political interest. I started out saying that if that is true then I am done with the party. Would you be OK with Trump's position?

Let me ask you a simple question. If you do not trust the politicians like Lankford, that the republicans picked to represent their interest, why do you care about politics at all? Is there some other senator you would trust more representing the republican side? I may not like the way our political system works but I participate because I ultimately believe it is necessary and the only way to get things done. I am not delusional and think they are competent at it but it is the only system we have. I believe the current border situation is a problem. People keep saying the laws are already is place. If they are then why does the problem continue to exist.

I have no problems with this law. Why don't we enforce it? Was this law enforced under republican presidents? Riddle me this, it the laws have been in place for ages and failed us do we sit around and complain about how the laws work? I would fully support your premise IF you had a way to fix this. If you were president could you enforce this law because I would probably vote for you.

And what? I answered your question of, if I had read the bill. I said I have not. What more did you want me to say? I didn't read it today. I didn't read it yesterday. I didn't read it last week....

A big part of the problem is partisan tendency to be adversary- to resist any idea that isn't of your own party. Sabotage the performance of the other party, placing that above the good of the nation.
Many members of Congress have commented on how bad this is; I remember one who decided to quit after one term, because he was just not willing to deal with the partisanship, and the focus on getting re-elected which dominated the need to serve the duties of the position.

I wouldn't run for office for any price, it wouldn't be worth it to me either. That doesn't mean there is no solution. I've been involved in a private group with some fine talent, working like a think tank for over a decade, trying to develop some way to get government to be more responsive and productive. About five years back, we found a possible avenue that passed the tests. We've now got this refined down to a very simple solution, which is not political, not partisan, uses existing rules, has no losers- and it will work.
It's been very difficult and fairly expensive to develop the mechanics to push it, but we will be going public soon- I hope in 30 days or less. IF we are successful, hundreds of things that are now problems will be resolved fairly. We aren't fixing problems, we're fixing the thing that causes problems. I plan to announce it on this forum a day or two in advance of the press release and letters being sent to all members of Congress.

What would be a good deal for you?

I care about politics because they govern my life. I live with the laws/deals they pass good or bad. Those currently in power are way far left from my perception of reality. I don't know pof any Senators or Reps that have my trust. I do kind of like the current Speaker but will wait to see what he's willing to take in a compromise

No, Republicans won'/t do what you want them to do.
