I might be becoming a broken record on this topic, but reform welfare and you'll suddenly have a much bigger pool of American workers to choose from.
Neither Trump or Congress have the balls to do anything with this one. They can't even get going with healthcare.
Sadly you may be right. Welfare has become a damn sacred cow. But as issues arise, such as those being discussed in this thread, perhaps politicians will be forced to deal with welfare.
Please note we're talking about legal immigration reform, these are immigrants who arrive with visas. Most visas now (50-70%) are for relatives of citizens and legal residents, what Trump wants is for most visas to be issued based on skills instead of kinship. Trump's proposal is beneficial by improving the education of immigrants admitted and this benefits the US by bringing in better educated people with marketable skills, people more likely to get better jobs and contribute more.
But, his proposal makes it LESS attractive for high tech immigrants to come here instead of going to some other country. The high tech industries don't back this direction. So, what is the real reason for the change?
What about their family members? what if they didn't have skills?? are you saying then only the person that have skills can come in and screw their family? Trump proposal would do just that.
We don't need every immigrant's brothers and sisters and their families then the brothers and sisters of the in-law.......then their family members.......over and over again.......this isn't 1870......you can get on a big airplane and go see your brother or sister in a few hours
I don't believe this has much of anything to do with that level of worker. We already have serious limitations on how many unskilled labor can enter. What we're now cutting in on includes high tech workers, where US industry has been calling for more skilled workers - NOT less as per Trump policy. US industry is moving past manufacturing to compete with the world in high tech, innovation, information, etc. For that, all nations need brain cells. And, a quick look at the census says that we have 5% of the brain cells. Trying to maintain our position while limiting ourselves to only 5% of the required resources is an incredibly crazy move, competitively speaking. (Of course, limiting access to universities is another way we're choosing to waste even the 5% we have!)
fruit picking is yet another task that is being automated. and yes, I want to live in a country that speaks it's native language, like every other person on earth.
Wow.....so now, this ploy isn't anything but to get rid of immigrants altogether. Nobody will come here if their family won't be allowed to join them. The party of family values? LMAO. You've just shown your true color.
Why should any American give a **** about the immigrants family back in the homeland that they fled from?
do you really think that most americans want the united states to accept the dregs of the world simply because of 5 lines from a poem? come on, you can't be that naive.
I won't dignify that with an answer. If I need to explain that to you, then you are beyond help. You are anti Immigrants altogether that much I know.
eh perhaps if their ancestors were irish or italian. the western european immigrants that came prior to the civil war had money.
Why, when a person immigrates to this country, should we be compelled to take on the burden of that persons whole entire family? We shouldn't have to accept "the whole burrito" just because one person qualifies to be allowed to immigrate here.
it won't displace anyone. and if you're an unskilled college graduate, you chose the wrong major. And you're likely one of the "educated" liberals the left loves to tout.
NOT.HOW.IT.WORK The problems with the majority of Americans is that they have forgotten their roots, how hard their grandparents, their ancestors have worked and suffered to make a better life for their family and in turn for them. Again, nobody will move to a foreign land without their family. The fact that you think that they can hop on a plane and see their family in just a few hours tell me all I need to know about your attitude about immigrants. I am an immigrant myself. You can take your condescending attitude elsewhere.
Most of the third world would come here tomorrow whether or not their siblings can follow. I would rather have a Nobel Prize winner immigrate to the US than Mohammed's brother Amir who has no skills and probably can't operate a flush toilet
they'll definitely come here without their family. That's why europe is having so many problems with all the muslim men they've let in.
Why are you equating the US with Europe? Europe have a more liberal immigration policy. Under this proposed law, an immigrant would think twice because of the limitation for family sponsorship. What most Americans don't realize is that the sponsorship process isn't easy or quick. Think about living away from your wife and children for years not knowing if it's a guarantee they can join you someday? How asinine it is to say, we want you, but dump your wife and children.
A nobel prize wouldn't come without his wife and children. I see subtlety in your discrimination in the past two threads. Looks to me you would only welcome white people because of your perception that "Amir who has no skills and probably can't operate a flush toilet."
Nobody said anything about anyone dumping their wife and children.........do you just make up maudlin and dramatic scenarios to make yourself feel better......rather than dealing with the reality of what we are trying to discuss?
