So typical of you... I say it is you who has reading comprehension, and cannot admit Obama was Kenyan citizen until he was age 21.

You insisted that he couldn't be. You insisted that a foreign government can't involuntarily impose its citizenship. You are arguing entirely with yourself.

But I have never had any problem admitting Obama was a dual citizen until age 21.

You are still wrong to assert he was born a Kenyan citizen. He wasn't.

And you are still wrong to insist that dual citizenship means dual allegiances. It doesn't.

And you are still wrong to consider this relevant to presidential eligibility. It's not.

My god- what is it about Birthers and reading comprehension?

From what we know from Obama and Factcheck:

Obama was not born a Kenyan Citizen.

Obama was born a dual British and American citizen.

Obama became a Kenyan Citizen, when the Kenyan Constitution was enacted, and lost his British citizenship.

Obama- again according to Obama and Factcheck- lost his Kenyan citizenship(which he never asked for or consented to) when at 23 he failed to claim it.

What is hilarious about all of this is that both Dutch and Wash insist that Obama is a liar and can't be trusted, and that Factcheck is in his pocket- but they repeatedly claim all of this must be true- because of what Obama and Factcheck said.

Here is another fact: No British office or agency has confirmed that Obama was ever a UK citizen. No Kenyan office or agency has ever confirmed that Obama was ever a Kenyan citizen.

Birthers make these claims, purely upon the information provided by Obama and Factcheck- which they otherwise claim can't be trusted.

Here is another fact: American government offices have confirmed that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii- Dutch and Wash don't believe them.

Such is the topsy turvy world of Birther logic.

Was Barack Obama a Kenyan citizen? I believe so, based upon what he told us- but unlike his birth in Hawaii, I have no actual proof that this is true. So this is more like believing it must be true, like believing Republican candidates were all born in the U.S..

Like Chester, Arthur, Antonin Scalia and Rudy Giuliani among others. There is frankly no way to be sure how many of our past presidents were dual citizens without their even knowing it.

American / Isreali Dual Citizens Running the American Government

    Attorney General – Michael Mukasey
Head of Homeland Security – Michael Chertoff

…If you think we’re being unfair here, ask yourself: How you would react to the Head of Homeland Security if he or she were a dual national with citizenship in Iran, Lebanon or Saudi Arabia? Ask yourself why you don’t feel the same about Israeli dual citizenship. Then you will understand how powerful the Israeli lobby has been in “adjusting” your acceptance of their special status.

    Oh god...

I really don't want to spend any more time than I already have pointing out how people keep trying to abuse citizenship laws for their own agenda's.

Have any of those people applied for Israeli citizenship, under Israeli law? I assume they are just Jews who have the right to become Israeli citizens if they follow the correct procedures. Before you derail this discussion completely, care to prove that any of those people are actually Israeli citizens?

Not that it is relevant to eligiblity- I just really don't want Konspiracy theories to start merging here. Visions of Ghostbuster.

Dear, "dual citizenship" means you have the right to carry two passports, to get protection from two countries, and to reside in either country without going through an immigration process.

If you pledge allegiance to ONE country. . .you RENOUNCE citizenship in the other country.

Since those people are listed as "dual citizens," they obviously have not renounced their Israeli citizenship!

The problem is that most dual citizens are dual citizens from birth completely involuntarily. Most don't even know it. So no renunciations generally take place.

Most are probably unaware of their dual citizenship.

That is not possible, at least not for the list I provided. There is no way that the Pentagon doesn't know a person has dual citizenship.

I was born in Belgium, and alghough I have lived (mostly) in the US for the last 40 years, my son who was born in Belgium and therefore had dual citizenship at the time he enlisted as a Marine was asked about his dual citizenship and was refused a special service assignment because his mother was not a US born citizen and he was still (at that time) a dual citizen.

He did enlist in the Marines anyway, but his career was limited in terms of assignments because of this issue.

So, if the Marine Corps administration can be aware of "dual citizenship issue" for new enlisted men, I'm pretty sure that someone holding a security position at the Pentagon HAS to be aware of his dual citizenship! But apparently, it doesn't matter if the "dual" means Israeli/American. . .yet it does matter if it is "Belgian/American!"

    Very weird!

In most cases, the dual citizenship mainly prevents you from being stationed in the country of your second citizenship.

I'm not sure how easy it is to get a clearance with dual citizenship, but if you can't that will limit your assignments as well.

Yes, that is what happen. Since he was refused the clearance, he was not eligible for special service.

But. . .everything ended well :)He was stationned in Hawaii and, during a "cruise" to Australia, he met an young Australian.

They have been married for 15 years and have two great boys!

Okay- you are going to make me have to actually do the work aren't you?

You listed these people as 'dual citizens'- without providing any evidence that they are. I speculated it was because they are Jewish, with the right of return.

So I go look at one of your examples- in this case Michael Chertoff. His bio makes no reference to have ever lived in Israel. So why do you think he is an Israeli citizen?

Well lets see. I found your list on a Ron Paul website. Now Ron Paul didn't post this...but he left this on his website, and didn't deny it, which is a defacto endorsement in my opinion.

    But let us go further.

    The Law of Return:

Those who immigrate to Israel under the Law of Return are immediately entitled to citizenship

Okay so since Michael Chertoff was not born in Israel, hasn't immigrated to Israel, his parents are not from Israel- what makes you assume he is an Israeli citizen?

And isn't it odd that you are concerned about these people- but not dual citizens of Irish or Italian descent? Janet Napolitano and Leon Panetta may be dual Italian and American. Hilda Solis may be dual Nicaraguan/American citizen.

So other than copying and pasting that list from some place- why do you think they are dual Israeli American citizens?

I'm actually not concerned about it at all. . .I was just answering to this new twist on the "birther" issue, demonstrating that MANY American citizens actually have dual citizenships. . .

Although, you have to admit that there are a LOT of Israeli/Americans in high position in the Pentagon. . .coincidence? And could that influence our politics towards Israel and the Palestinian issue?

But, thank you for the work you put in following up on this! :)

I agree that many, many American citizens have dual citizenship. I happen to know several.

But you seem to have missed a small detail.

I pointed out that you haven't established that any Israeli/Americans are in the Pentagon. I pointed out specifically that one of the people on your list doesn't appear to have Israeli citizenship at all.

So what makes you think any of these people have dual citizenship?

Shall we get back to the point and that is that dual citizenship does not prevent a person from being eligible to be president so long as they are a natural born citizen of the United States. They may not be elected because of it but they are not Constitutionally excluded from the office.

Of course if elected they have to swear an oath to uphold and defend the US Constitution but I'm unaware of any president in my lifetime taking that oath seriously.

    Very nice.

I like it when people don't let little limitations hold them back. I'm glad it worked out so well for him.
