Some "experts" here in Oz suggest we (Aussies) are sleep walking into war with China.

What are your views? Is China or the US just sabre rattling? Is US aircraft carriers under threat, can they defend themselves against any weapon? Do they have more advanced defences we factually dont know about but have suspicions of?

I cant imagine the US Navy would be expecting any sinking of their fleets

You can’t defeat China on its own turf, but outside of their land they are weak. Having only a few hundred nukes, they can’t really face the US Arsenal that consists of thousands.
So, war with China would not lead to WWIII - it will just result in boxed in China.

 

The Chinese have never once tested any of these supposed carrier killer missiles against a moving target, at sea, hundred or thousands of miles away.

there is a reason China only keep few hundred warhead, they research and study for decades on how many warhead needed for min deterrent. They can build thousands if they choose too, they have nuke since 60s, but doing so will cost a lot $$$. its an economic way to keep MAD alive. it only take 1 bullet to kill a person, anymore just waste of ammo.

 

And when inspections turn up those toxic substances and the importing firm is heavily fined and forced to do an expensive and embarrassing recall, the price goes up and consumers look elsewhere.

Tariffs are not “placed on the Chinese”. They are placed on Americans who import Chinese goods. So your solution is to tax consumers?

But our trade imbalamce with china is poison to American security and our prosperity

Plus it will cost the lives of American soldiers someday and perhaps civilians too

I'm no expert, but I'll share a couple of observations that I see.

• I don't see China's military operating far from home like us.
• But they are very protective of their trade routes because they are vulnerable to having them broken. I think they know we would attack those if things got bad so they are taking steps to protect them. You can see it where they are literally buying ports to offer multiple paths, for example oil.
• I'm a little jealous of the militarized islands they are building. To me they are just like a slow aircraft carrier, but cheaper. Kind of creative.
• My view? Aircraft carriers are sitting ducks when they get close to land.
• And for the guy that thinks they don't have enough nukes, I would say a few is enough if they get thru.

 

So conservatives believe in taxing Americans into prosperity? Conservatives believe in having the government interfere in the free market?

 

We believe in keeping jobs and the ability to produce in America instead of being a banana republic for china

 

And you will have the government create jobs using high taxes on American consumers? You want the government to pick winners and losers in the market?

 

I think he understands that tariffs make American made products more competitive. American made products contribute to Americn prosperity.

 

Right now the free trade policy of government is picking winners - and they are chinese

 

They certainly contribute to the prosperity of the rich at the expense of consumers. But big government proponents like Mac support wealth redistribution.
