The US should seek reparations from China for the coronavirus.

The US should no longer be dependent on China for any essential products. It is absolutely insane that we would depend on an avowed enemy of everything we believe in for anything we need.

This is sentence four. This is sentence five.

    Easier said than done.
We are about to experience a recession. During a recession, availability of cheap goods helps the poor.
Whatever happens next, even if Trump stays in power and republicans control the congress, I doubt the decision will be made to substitute China. And a few years down the road when the recovery starts, everyone will be afraid to mess with trade to avoid hurting the recovering economy.

We should have stopped trading with our enemies long ago. We are now paying the price for decades of corrupt Big Bad Government and Big Bad Business.

"A third of new drugs cause serious problems when more people take them
“China doesn’t have anything like the consumer protection laws and product liability laws like the United States does,” said Rosemary Gibson, a health care expert at the Hastings Center who wrote a book titled “China Rx: Exposing the Risks of America’s Dependence on China for Medicine.”

A Chinese manufacturer was the source of contaminated heparin — a commonly used blood thinner — that killed at least 81 people in 2007 and 2008. An FDA inspection showed that the Chinese factory where the contaminated product was made had serious deficiencies in what’s known as good manufacturing practice."
NBC NEWS, FDA recalls are a reminder that China controls much of world's drug supply
"If we were ever in an international incident with China, they would literally have their hands around our necks in terms of critical drugs.", By Maggie Fox, Aug. 14, 2018.

Not much chance of reparations. The real message here is to realize the vulnerability we have created by giving so much of our technology and manufacturing capacity to the Chinese, and the importance of us restoring more self-sufficiency to our own economic base. It is ludicrous for example that 94% of our antibiotics are made in China....

It's not from China that reparations should be seek, but to globalists, and our own apathy that made us buy cheap china made products instead of favouring local products.

If a Democrat (especially Biden) wins in November, China's hold and influence in America will increase massively.
Democrats have historically sided with and assisted China (and other authoritarian regimes) even if it greatly harmed America's interests. This is well known (Clinton tech giveaway, Uranium One etc)
    Communists supporting Communism.

China is going to support a US Democrat victory through propaganda and monetary assistance in every way possible.

Here is the money quote from your very good source:

"Axios has compiled a timeline of the earliest weeks of the coronavirus outbreak in China, highlighting when the cover-up started and ended — and showing how, during that time, the virus already started spreading around the world, including to the United States.

Why it matters: A study published in March indicated that if Chinese authorities had acted three weeks earlier than they did, the number of coronavirus cases could have been reduced by 95% and its geographic spread limited.

This timeline, compiled from information reported by the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, the South China Morning Post and other sources, shows that China's cover-up and the delay in serious measures to contain the virus lasted about three weeks."
AXIOS, Timeline: The early days of China's coronavirus outbreak and cover-up, By Bethany Allen-Ebrahimian, Mar 18, 2020.

    Yes, we have a set-off.

    “set-off noun

    \ ˈset-ˌȯf \

Legal Definition of set-off (Entry 1 of 2)

1: the reduction or discharge of a debt by setting against it a claim in favor of the debtor
specifically : the reduction or discharge of a party's debt or claim by an assertion of another claim arising out of another transaction or cause of action against the other party

    2
    a :
a right to seek reduction or discharge of a debt or claim by countering a party's claim with an independent claim

b: a counterclaim made by a defendant against a plaintiff for reduction or discharge of a debt by reason of an independent debt owed by the plaintiff to the defendant”

Should the world seek reparations from the US for the 2008 crisis?

I would take a WAG that this coronavirus pandemic from China is not going to be the last or the worst to come from China.
They're into bizarre and risky research without the regulations and controls found in US labs..

This pandemic is only a warm up.

In 2020, it wouldn't amount to much. We're mostly recovered. Today, we're suffering the ill effects of this virus including the violation of our human rights and dignities in this country. And with the information that's come out, we must sanction the Chinese as soon as is politically able. Or the offsetting debt idea is wonderful.

Europe got hit really bad by the recession. They basically lost a decade. So why don't you count up those reparations, and adjust them for inflation please. Just add 20% and you got it adjusted. Also, Japan would like some too. They were just starting to see real progress, but then they slid right back to where they started.

I dunno what we're supposed to do, sue China every year there's a flu? They're already improving their economy at a really fast rate and if there is a human reason regarding why the flu (and other similar diseases) seem to originate in China, it's their economic improvements that would resolve that. Suing them or sanctioning them would presumably have the opposite effect.

Did the U.S. pay reparations after it caused all the suffering of the financial crisis a decade ago?
It isn't as if 'China' intentionally released this, as toxic 'investors' did with their 'derivative' poison.

If you destroy labs, withhold information and let people travel outside of your country, I can argue they did very much deliberately let the cat out of the bag. After all, it wasn't their problem anymore. But we US Nationalists are going to make it their problem.
