Stevenage is on of the "new towns" in the UK. It was designed to be cool and futuristic. Here is what it looked like in 1971.

And now? I'll quote on of the comments under the video.

Moral of the story - God/Death always wins.
People tried to build a better future but other people and (the Christian) God apparently want their Apocalypse and fulfilling of the scriptures. How dare those pesky people change God's plan!
    It's all over the world.

Lol, I guess in your "parable" being positive would also be stupid. I am Jewish so I have problems being cheeky period let alone turning them. Look I get it. If you took turning the cheek literally as you do it might be real stupid but I think with due respect that parable on turning the cheek in Christianity which believe it or not comes from the Talmud which has that lesson, talks about whenever possible avoiding or escalating conflicts. We could get into a huge debate in Christianity as to when defending yourself is actually permitted but I defer to Christians on that. I would say that in both our religions reasonable force to turn back violence is allowed. When that force is no longer reasonable is a huge debate of course.

Also in Judaism there is a concept of pre-emptive defense where you do not wait until you are attacked to defend yourself and I think Christian theologians say the same applies in Christianity.

Look I am no religious expert. I am some half assed very moderate modern humanist type jerk. I think self-defence as we define it in law is the Judeo-Christian concept reformed and updated to today. Neither of our religions stone gays anymore. Neither of our religions say deaf people can not get married because they can't understand the wedding vows. There are a lot of practices from the past in both religions we no longer follow.

So all I can say is positive and peaceful does not necessarily mean being passive at the wrong time. Your point though is well taken and in my religion huge debate still lingers as to why we did not fight back more during the holocaust precisely because of our not wanting to be violent.

Its a very difficult issue to debate but its a problem don't you think all philosophies and religions deal with?

Also I totally agree with your assertion the pith and substance of Christianity is a negative, doomsday way to get people to believe in God.

In Judaism we are not much better in the sense that our God is depicted as violent, angry, jealous.

Between you and me these reflect the human projections of emotions and concepts of the writers. I doubt if the concept of the origin of life could be grasped by us it would consist of emotions. It would be more accurately explained by fractal equations of quantum physics with energy.

That all said your criticisms I get. I just apply it to all religions and quite frankly any laws or organized systems we create. They reflect human limitations and biases yes.

You won't acknowledge this because I've shared it before but I will share it for someone else that might be interested.
"For it is by Grace you have been saved, through faith- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works so that no one can boast."

Why of course. I hardly acknowledge Jesus' teachings, let alone his disciples, of which one denied him twice for a night, one betrayed him to death and one didn't believe him until he stuck a finger in his chest.

Saved? What does that in fact even mean? Most of the Christians don't look very safe to me.

    Which Christianity?

    Who's Christianity?

I get that you don't like what you call Christianity, but the entire premise of your argument is fundamentally flawed, if not entirely disingenuous, because it is based on the notion that Christianity is some sort of monolith when it's not. The same goes for Christians - we're supposed to believe that all Christians believe and interpret the same thing?

    Nope. See the bold part?

    "Have been saved". It's nonsense.

Perhaps you think Jesus will ditch some Christians just because they are Orthodox/Catholic/Protestant/whatever and don't follow "the right Christianity"? Other than that, I agree it's wrong to lump everybody together.

You mean expose them? That I do. :)
Because they are dragging the world into a pit to get their anticipated "end of the world".

If you look at it from the perspective of eternity, which IS what religions absolutely do, we spend 0% of our time on Earth.

Earthly protection is 0% of the issue with claims of salvation.

At least recognize that prescriptions for the afterlife exist in all religions.

Some Christians believe Jesus isn't going to ditch anybody. They think the concept of eternal damnation and torment was a corruption of early/original Christian doctrine introduced by men like Tertullian and Augustine of Hippo.

He isn't quoting from a Bible like you or me or another. He is speaking the truth to others already awakened to life in Christ. But that assumes that they remain true to their covenants and don't jump ship between then and the end. As for grace, faith and works, it stands to reason that we owe everything to God. Because no matter what we achieve or accomplish, without him and the power of his atonement, we wouldn't even exist to do those things. So all that honor and gain we should rightfully lay at his feet as he is the cause of it all. And we can do nothing of ourselves but to close our eyes to the truth and boast of ourselves. So essentially, all that we can give to God is ourselves, which is what he gives to us in the end. This is why it is so important to follow him, because he loves us and wants the best for us....to be like him.

No, it doesn't assume that. It says clearly "you have been saved", not "you would be saved". Period.
The rest are assumptions and speculations but I'd like to stick to the facts, i.e. text.

Like Mr. Simpson said (see 1-st page), "God love's you, He's gonna kill you!".
There is some deep truth to that. ;)

You are ignoring spirit and reason for the sake of text. To do so makes the text dead and meaningless but to your own agenda. It stands to reason that the path is a lifelong pursuit according to ones choice to adhere to the principles.

Atheism PREDATES Xtianity by about 5 centuries.

Atheism is GROWING worldwide while Xtianity is shrinking, especially here in America.

If the text is important, do Christians feel obliged to follow the instructions for living in Leviticus, or do they prefer to pick and choose?

All deity based religions are based upon unproven claims of the supernatural. Which is why faith is a requisite.

The anticipated response from theists is atheist like I have faith too. Which is true, like I have faith in my wife to faithful to me. The issue I have with monotheism faith is the claim I will burn in hell for not believing in their unproven god.

Yes,as scripture says "Without faith it is impossible to be pleasing to God." Without the supernatural, it also requires "faith" to assume all things came into existence by chance, void of "intelligent design".

Why do you guys always say that. Who claims “all things came into existence by chance” other than Christian’s trying to poke holes in atheism?

It's not or/or. If things didn't come "by chance" it doesn't mean the Judeo-Christian god made them. Also, if there is a God, it doesn't mean it's the anthropomorphic, jabbering God of the Bible.

Man, I remember when we were kids, the future was bright. We were dreaming of Space and space travel, flying cars, futuristic cities, becoming astronauts and pilots, etc, etc. Instead, now we are waiting for the Apocalypse and the End of the World.

Instead of flying cars we now have PC. Instead of space flights now we have high inflation and sky high debt. Instead of astronauts now we have thugs, pimps and drug dealers.

Long story short, people discarded the bright future and want their promised end of the world. That's how deep doomsday religion has soaked into minds.

For a lot of us, our lives are more than half way through. I remember when I was a "kid" I thought all kinds of things. Thought maybe I'd star in a movie or be a Professional Baseball Player. As I got older, I "put away childish things" and began to contemplate the real purpose of life, family. relationships, beauty. Seldom do I ever contemplate Apocalypse or the end of the world. Sometimes, as I get older though, I do contemplate Heaven. A lot of my friends and family have left this world. I would be a fool if I didn't know I'm going where they are. For me, technology has every bit a downside as it does an upside. It is just like human nature. It can be used for good, or used for evil.

We hear the end of the world is coming all the time from those who promote the idea man made climate change is bringing it about. They have set deadlines for decades that have come and gone. Perhaps that is the "doomsday religion" that has soaked into your mind. The here and now presence of the "Kingdom of God" apparently has never been considered by you. Perhaps that is why you focus on the pimps and thugs.

Because we were created in the image of God and we don't deny it. We contemplate purpose and eternity. We don't claim to be animals who just look for the next mouthful of grass until our life is over.

No, they didn't invent the idea of the end of the world. Jesus and His apostles did about 2000 years ago.

Isn't "the Kingdom of God" supposed to be established after the Apocalypse and the defeat of the Antichrist? The "New Jerusalem"?
