It is healthier and cleaner. It reduces UTI's and infection because the boy doesn't have to clean under his foreskin every night.

how do you keep your little gem from stinking ? Yours is perpetually colonized by fecal flora, and many times more prone to UTi's

So what your saying, is that blind people wouldn't prefer to have sight? Either way.... strawman.

Your picture of the banana is completely irrelevant. It's a banana... not a penis. If i wanna see what a circumcized penis looks like, I can look in the mirror.

So your trying to tell me that sex isnt glorious for me? It is.

My parents had me circumcized as a baby. I'm glad they did. I've been in situations where its been beneficial for me. If they had waited until I was old enough to make the choice on my own, I probably wouldnt have, simply because I wouldn't want to deal with the pain.

I'm an atheist. My parents (who are also atheists) decided to have me circumcized. Me defending the practice has absolutely nothing to do with religion.

    Fact.....
The AMA's position is that circumcision does have certain benefits, but not enough to warrant an across the board recommendation. They also say that being uncircumcized does have certain benefits, but not enough to warrant an across the board condemnation of the practice. End result, they say it should be left up to the parents.

I'll trust an association of doctors on medical issues before I trust a random internet poster.

I'm an atheist (and a leftist, as if it matters) defending the practice.

Even Mr atheist Bill Maher did a bit last week about the stupidity of tryingto ban circumcision.

good night. This has nothing to do with circumcizing infants. It has everything to do with anti-semitism.

well , we're adults here , so we can speak honestly & openly ...

as a man , my wife appreciates that I was circumsized ... and that's all I'm gonna say about that .

as a baby boy , my parents decided that I would be circumsized , it prolly hurt like helllll , but I was crying anyway , so WTF ? ya know ? it happened. I got over it ... I was very young when I was born , so I don't even remember it.

and , there is the matter of the Abrahamic Covenant.

Well most circumcisions have nothing to do with the Bible and the fact is the testament speaks against the practice in believers.

Nobody has to clean under his foreskin every night, and the effects of cleanism are that people never develop adequate resistance to the vast number of nasties that are trying to establish symbiosis with us. That's why (though nothing to do with this issue as far as I know) so many kids are developing asthma and such. Originally the notion of cleanliness was sensible, but - in my view anyway - it has got overdone, to the extent that the effects are now negative. I think we should assume that evolution gave us our present shape because it worked, and chopping bits off needs very powerful arguments rather than anxious assumptions.

There are lots of pro's for circumcision and little reason to not do it.

That, in and of itself, is enough to make people, men and women glad for this hygenic slip of the knife.

That's all I am going to say about it.

    :relax:

Only if you are obsessed, in my view anyway. The detail takes medical training that - I take it - neither of us has, but my general point above still stands, I think. If you want to mutilate people you need a stronger argument than custom and anxiety.

I don't think you get this, guy. We aren't doing it ourselves. OUR DOCTORS are doing it. It is BETWEEN doctor and patient.

and this is why it didn't even get ON THE BALLOT in San Fran.

Your doctors - unlike those in civilized countries - are looking for business. You know that perfectly well - come ON!

actually. The obstetrician does it and it's included in the cost of care and delivery for the mom.

We want it. If you don't, FINE.

What is your point here? I think it is a lousy idea, and have been saying so. I have no power over your medical bills, but I do know you are mugs for paying them. You like wasting money on mutilations, wait till your children are old enough to agree.

    Entirely false.

The patient (A.K.A. "victim") -- the little baby in question -- has no say in the matter whatsoever.

In fact, the little -- quite defenseless -- chap is strapped onto a table.

No matter who does the circumcision, the Mohel or the Ob-GYN, as long as they are trained and can do it correctly, in a sanitary and medically able establishment like a hospital, I see no problem with the procedure.:eyes::heart:

It is elective cosmetic surgery performed on a minor, who cannot consent.

It is not reconstructive it's 'benefits' are dubious at best. If they really exist let the individual make a decision for themselves when they come of age whether they wish to have a piece of perfectly healthy functioning tissue removed.

Maybe gynecologist neonatally removing my labia and clitoral hood would have some minor benefits when it comes to hygiene. But my parents shouldn't have the right to perform cosmetic genital surgery on me as an infant.
