Cleaning, rust and corrosion prevention, what do you use?

It's an amazing lubricant/rust/corrosion preventative, one of the best features is it stays where it is placed and doesn't migrate into where it is not needed, think chambered primers.

It's a little pricey but IMO it's well worth the price for how well it works.

My carry firearm is steel based, add to that the temperatures in Florida and I tend to sweat a lot producing water with salt in it.

That doesn't play well with a matt Parkerized firearm, I tried Hoppe, no good, gun oil, no good, synthetic gun oil, much better, T-9 excellent.

That stated folks, what do you use for cleaning and lubricating firearms?

 

I use this stuff for all my knives, firearms, and anything else that is metal.

It is not slick, dries quickly, and doesn't gunk up in really cold temps (down to -40 I think).

 

For long term storage (I have a cache) in the EU, I use cosmoline. For daily carry, I have had good success with Mobile 1 (what I use for my AR on the range, as well). I have a rag, soaked in it, kept handy along with a bore swab, that I use for a quick wipe down each day, and I do a quick field strip, clean and lube every few days for my carry guns. It only takes between 2-5 minutes each day for piece of mind. Depending on what I find in the quick cleans, I may do a more thorough cleaning.
If one of my guns is fired, I.e., on the range, I always do a thorough clean and lube.

It was the topic of the OP, the very nature of which, is indicative of someone advocating gun rights.

 

10w-40. But, may not matter. I got the idea from another and considering its intended use, it made sense, is inexpensive, good in cold weather and has worked well for me. I have seen no down side. Bear in mind, because I am obsessive in cleaning, I rarely have to break crud down.

The question and thread is on topic, a firearm that is poorly maintained can be quite dangerous and the people who "claim" they are concerned about injuries and deaths by firearms, should embrace such a discussion.

 

Keeping them in safe working order of course.

We wouldn't want to have any accidents.

Hijacking of a discussion can only occur in an established thread where a particular matter is already being discussed. Creating a thread housing its own discussion separate from others hijacks nothing.

Not at all, lubrication is sparingly applied on the moving parts of the firearm, no lubricant should be placed on the stocks.

That's one of the features of T-9, it doesn't migrate from where it should be to where it shouldn't be.

Or the system utilized by the state of New York and was found subject to widespread corruption, with permits being issued to those who could not legally possess them?

 

Poorly maintained firearms are unsafe. You should be all on board with this thread, being a safety advocate and all.
