If someone calls me a gun nut, I don't really care. My being a firearms enthusiast affects no one but me. Gun grabbers' efforts affect me and my rights adversely and directly, and as such I have a right to condemn y'all for your unconstitutional efforts.

Which if you are not actively involved in gun safety as in instructing, you fall into the gun grabber column, gun safety if the new buzz word for gun banning.

For in between cleanings I use CLP. I duck hunt in an area where the water is slightly salty so I spray my shotgun and ammo down with barricade and wipe away any excess. Guns I shoot a lot get taken apart to the last spring and put in an ultrasonic bath with water and a splash of degreaser, rinse with hot water, dried with compressed air, then all of the parts get put in a small kitty litter box and sprayed with CLP. Wipe and or blow off any extra and re assemble. Some grease on things that need grease.

TRUE gun safety. The gun banners just got so sick of having their backsides handed to them legislatively they started trying to twist the words to camouflage their true agenda. They figured out people were turned off by the terms "gun ban" or "gun control" so they started claiming they were "gun safety advocates." Laughable, really.

"Gun control" is actually a term meaning one has learned to control ones gun shot to shot as commonly done in speed shooting, the Anti-gunners not knowing very much about firearms, or anything relating to them, plagiarized the term for their cause.

This is true. In fact Justice Scalia pointed that out didn't he?

That is why I started the ultrasonic cleaning. Remove all old lube and dirt and re-lube. I know for a fact that every spring, pin, and part has a protective layer.

Yup cannot get new lube in where old lube is caked up and retaining debris and trapped moisture.

Even the 1911, which is one of the simplest and safest, and therefore one of the most reliable firearms on the market, it will still need a teardown and a good scrubbing once in a while, even if not fired.

It's amazing just as a carry gun how much lint a 1911 will collect and in that lint of course will be moisture of which the firearm must be protected from.

None of which involves confiscation, registration, licensing requirements, or anything that is mandatory.

A 1911 is a good candidate for ultrasonic cleaning. It’s a good sized pile of parts when 100% disassembled. It sure had my brother in law intimidated when I did his for him.

How much did you pay for your cleaner and what are you using for a solvent?

I got it at harbor freight, $60 I think. I use water and a splash of simple green HD (the purple simple green).
