    The NFL can do what it pleases and if it so pleases require the players to stand during the playing of the atheme. It is NOT a first amendment or free speech issue. It's a workplace employee/employer issue.

    Basically, he's on the verge of getting cut and has been, with or without him making a political statement. I've heard from some 49ers' fans that its worse because there's no Harbaugh around to save him.

    You are still not there. It is not a first amendment issue. Workplace issues can be free speech issues. So can how you discipline your teenager girl who mouths off at you, or how a private school deals with a child who curses, or a what a private art gallery does with a sculpture of nude Donald. Free speech entails a thousand ways in which what people express themselves or the way they choose to, may be inhibited by forces outside of their control. The First amendment deals with only the hundred ways government does the inhibiting.

    We all agree that speech should never be completely free of consequences, but we may disagree about who should be imposing them, how often, or how severely. Those are matters of judgement not constitutional law but they all involve how free or not speech should actually be. Its bigger than the first amendment.

    The big show may make it hard for management to cut him, and keep his checks coming in for a bit longer.

    If this was real he would have had a list of specific complaints and proposed solutions.

    No idea. His stats haven't been all that great since the last time the 9ers made the playoffs. Also, keep in mind Christian Ponder and Blaine Gabbert were the other 2 QBs the team picked from around the league, neither of them were that impressive.

    What? I think you are confusing 'real' protest with organized or effective. He does not have to be a poli-sci major or even well versed in his issue, to want to take a stand on it, and do so. He does not even have to be especially bright or communicative.
