You mustn't get some people started. According to some, all con/rep/whites are bigots.

Don't worry, someone will come along and tell you that comment is racist.

Hey, it's a free country. If you want to waste your votes on a pair of barking moonbats not qualified to judge a seed-spitting contest at a watermelon festival, go for it.

It would probably be easier to ask people why they believe what they believe. I'd just get the same answer regardless.

    Ad hominem much?

LOL its very apparent you lack sufficient logic when your 1st response it to launch an attack on my character instead of my message.

You, and your personal attacks have been reported to the site staff.

Can you retype this in English please? I do not understand the question.

Its shows that states with Eugenics legislation were blue states.

    Godwin’s Law : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law

You shouldn’t, but at least I use logic and back up my opinions with data, something you have yet to do.
You speak of credibility as a defense, yet you never show any yourself.

Care to show any mainstream examples, or do you not have any credibility either?

Why don’t you count them, then show your results, instead of making an un-evidenced assertion yourself?

Funny that all you do is speak of facts and evidence, yet conveniently you never have any or show any.

So by reporting me you've shown that you have sufficient logic? Yeah, that makes sense...

Really? Because your "Eugenics legislation" map looks exactly like the 1920 Electoral College.

Good job confusing a electoral college map with a "eugenics legislation map."

    What a joke...

And? Are we posting random links which have no relation to the discussion now? What exactly does this refute? Well you waste your time with non related stuff.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernst_Rüdin

What data? You didn't provide anything. You've shown me two pictures which mean nothing. You still have yet to prove what policies made democrats conservative and how they didn't support eugenics.

You've had plenty of time to look through the thread and respond to other people in this one post. You should have been able to see the 2 videos and the 1 article I've presented and there are plenty more examples I have sorted in my database. I have plenty of credibility. You, not so much.

I've been backing up my claims since I started posting here. You have yet to back up your anecdotal nonsense in this one thread. You can go ahead and report me again. I already know that is the only way you can combat intellectual superiority.

I'll concede on Sanger, but I'm curious as to how you view segregation.

Would you consider Jim Crow laws to be conservative or liberal in nature?

Depends on your definition of morality, liberal, conservative.

Slavery was a moral issue. When people think liberal they thing liberty and freedom. By that reasoning people can easily make the distinction that liberals were the abolitionist and the conservatives were the slave owners.

But then again, liberals were always seen as the types who lack morality than conservatives. And everyone agrees that slavery is amoral so by that distinction people can say that it was the conservatives who were abolitionist and the liberals who were owning slaves.

I say, there really isn't a definitive way. If anything it's better to go by what they've said, what they've done and how it coincides with your beliefs today.

Republican party first got into power around the 1860. If anything the Republicans of that era were more Libertarian of the Fremont Republicans. I believe slavery wasn't a battle between liberal and conservative. I believe it was between libertarian and just Democrats.

There's really no indicator which shows that conservatives were racist and that they "suddenly" switched over. Democrats were never for low taxes, small government and individual liberties. It's pretty inconsistent to claim that Democrats who were disgruntled and became Republicans suddenly had an epiphany and started supporting lower taxes and smaller government. Both parties have a history of Progressivism, from Theodore Roosevelt to Woodrow Wilson.

If anything Conservatism didn't start becoming a movement until the late 1940s & 1950s with William F. Buckley becoming the spokesman of Conservatism and Barry Goldwater being the political spokesman when he dared to speak against his own administration.

If anything the conservative movement had barely gotten off the ground at that point so it's really just unfair to characterize conservatives as the racist in that era of history when at the time our policies barely got off the ground.

This isn't a very good argument. Most historians define abolitionism as a liberal movement. The same goes for integration and women's suffrage.

It is true that Republicans were basically Libertarians back then. Democrats were populists. By definition, this made Republicans socially liberal and Democrats socially conservative. Economically, Democrats have always been liberal while Republicans have always been conservative. Socially, there was a gradual switch, however.

They didn't suddenly switch over. I specifically stressed that this was a gradual process.

Southern Democrats were the socially conservative wing of the party, while progressives tended to be in the North.

Because the GOP was initially concentrated in the Northeast, Upper Midwest, and California, they were comparatively more socially liberal than the Democrats in the beginning.

Social conservatism has been around for a long time.

Economic conservatism is what you're talking about.

It's not suppose to be an argument. It's suppose to be opinion. Historians based their knowledge of history on opinion. How many theories have I heard about Lincoln being gay? They really have no indicator that conservatives were the racist of the past.

And to say that conservatives were against women's suffrage is dubious. It wasn't conservatives keeping women down. It was men in general.

The reason why this doesn't make sense because it conflicts with core values. The Democrats were supporters of eugenics, euthenics and abortion in the early 1940s. This was support by Democrats, not Republicans. Gays in the 1950, Mattachine Society, affiliated themselves with the Communist Party USA which were mostly democrats. The core values of the "social conservative" democrats would have conflicted with the policies they have supported at that time.

Well either they suddenly switched over or they never left left the Democrat Party. People like Helen Thomas has been a liberal and a registered Democrat for as long as she could remember. Robert Bryd has been liberal and Democrat for as long as he has been alive.

Ronald Reagan made a sudden change in 1950. He was the most conservative president of our lifetime. Are you going to tell me he left a still socially conservative party to join a still socially liberal party?

No, I'm talking about the entire movement as a whole. There was no real definition of conservatism before that point in time during the 1950s.

You can say that with a straight face?

How is it dubious? Which liberal groups were opposed to women's suffrage?

Southern Democrats were social conservatives. The same could not be necessarily said about their northern counterpoints.

Roberty Byrd renounced his racist past later in life, and changed his positions on some issues.

That's assuming the Democratic party made a huge change. He left the party. The party didn't leave him.

What policies made racist democrats conservative? Other than being racist? What were their platforms or beliefs? What social issues made them conservative? Name one.

    Which conservative groups did?

I like how you ignore every single platform and policy which made them liberal.

His voting record was never right of John McCain. And the ACLU rated him 20 percent of the in agreement with him. http://www.ontheissues.org/domestic/Robert_Byrd_Civil_Rights.htm

Considering what happened from 1950 to 1970 that statement makes no sense.

    Excellent Thread MJ,

Liberals will attack Conservative women with the most vile accusations they can muster.... they have called them:

    • racists
    • sluts
    • bad mothers
    • idiots
    • murderers
    • sell outs

.. and those insults are on a mellow day when they have had their weed.

There is no level to which a liberal will not stoop when attacking a Conservative woman. A strong conservative woman like: Palin, Ingram, Bachman, Malkin, Coulter are demeaned in the most vile ways possible as a warning by liberals to other women... DON'T YOU DARE CONSIDER NOT BEING BEHOLDEN TO THE DEMOCRATS AND LIBERAL MOVEMENT.

The truth is the smartest, most fiercely independent, and incredible women are conservative women... the bonus... they are far hotter than their liberal counterparts. It must really (*)(*)(*)(*) off a liberal women to know that they are not as smart or as beautiful as their conservative counterparts.

I'm sure there are plenty of delightful conservative women out there. In fact, one of them is one of my best friends. However, you didn't do yourself a favor by naming some of the most hateful bigots alive in our country today.

They are idiots and ignorant in any age. They climb on the shoulders of great feminists that put them where they are and then trash them. These would be barefoot and pregnant amounting to nothing if it weren't for the liberal women who saw women as valuable.

That's constitutional, it's not social. It wasn't impossible for anyone to value state's rights during that era and both sides have used it plenty of times during the slavery era.

    What make's them Conservative? It's a Woman's group that opposes Woman's suffrage.

    Abortion and Eugenics.

No he's been consistent. They've been keeping records of his voting habits since 1994.

The Democratic Party didn't make a huge change in the 1950s. There was really no reason for Reagan to leave. If anything he most likely left because he felt more in turn with that new conservative movement that was going on.
