The private sector should be apart from government. They have different interests and function in different ways. Having said that, yes, politics is broken in Australia.

Was politics ever not broken? Look at the ancient Roman model as a corrupt broken example, and we still basically follow the same bloody thing some 1000 year later?

I agree, the Government and private sectors should have different interests & should function in different ways, but can anyone really tell where Governments/political parties end, and the private sectors begin?

Political parties are so barstardised, where do they end and private sectors begin?

This is my aunts point, and its a 100% valid one. No one can really demonstrate where the philosophies and methodologies of three major political parties end, and the philosophies and methodologies of private sectors begin.

So, why do we need political parties and politicians, and why are we paying thousands of unnecessary politicians wages across Local; State and Federal Governments that could save us a fortune in revenue?

I think we've let it break. Many of us don't understand politics and don't care about it. I think new citizens who have been naturalised know more about it than the average person born here.

Om Saturday a friend asked me to take her and her daughter to pick up their laybys for Christmas.. Now the labys were at Merrylands, yes that's right, that bullet riddled, bikie controlled heart of the Muslim revolution. My job was driver so once there I found a comfortable place to sit an wait near the way out to the carpark.

I was sitting for about 5 minutes when a middle aged woman wearing a jijab, which was I think a Shayla came and sat on the bench next to me. She started the conversation. "Christmas shopping" she said, "It's so tiring especially in this weather". I agreed and remarked at how homogeneous every one was, Muslims and Christians all shopping together, having photos taken with Santa, sitting around talking. She looked at me and smiled, "Yes" she said, "It's a pity it wasn't all like this, we believe in Jesus as much as Christians do, we believe in Abraham, Moses, Abraham" she commented " there is really little difference". She told me she has just got her children past the "Danger age", the age when children are searching for self, trying to find their place in the world. She told me off her fears that the radicals would find a way to indoctrinate them, but she said "Praise God", my husband and I had instilled enough goodness into them them. She told me that these criminals were in no way representative of any Muslims she knew, that most of those radicalised are youths searching for a cause, and all the hatred spreading is only helping the radicals to recruit them.

She was very open about it all and even introduced me to her daughter and son when they came to get her. She stood, shook my hand and wished me and my family a great Christmas, and left.

I felt refreshed, I felt good, I wish Magoo had been there.

Contradictions galore going on here that simply don't make any sense. What will be the consequence of big business running the country directly? Anyone with half a brain could see what the outcome of this would be.
Of course the government outsources their work to private companies, it's feasible in many aspects.
Policians aren't expected to be omnipotent are they? Politicians jobs are to guide through legislation I thought, with access to a myriad of advisers. Okay, okay, I got a good idea......why doesn't Gina Rhinehart run for the senate and become the minister of Natural resources and mining? She's an expert in this field. Actually, forget a ministry, just hand that over Mining to Gina without any government intervention. Gee, why didn't somebody think of that before.

Who should run the country? Of course, ultimately it is us the people. We're not omnipotent either. Who do we rely on?.....Rupert and cronies? That sounds like the best idea yet! No system is bulletproof and will ever be.
Anarchism sounds good but somebody is going to want ultimate power and control. I'm happy with the current system, warts and all. There is no system better than the democratic one we have at the moment. There are certainly lots of monarchists on here that know better than everyone else and would love nothing more than to have sole rule. Sorry it doesn't entice me enough to head down the road of rule again.

    Yes we have dentists to pull our teeth, doctors to look after out health, mechanics to fix our cars, why wouldn't we have politicians to run our country. The problem isn't the politicians that pull the wool over our eyes, it is us that let them by blaming them when it is us who just want to leave it all to someone else.;

If you think there is a difference between citizens ruled by a sole Monarchy, and the Australian citizens ruled by politicians/Government; then I would suggest you look a little deeper.

If you believe that a group of Australian politicians forcing a group of welfare recipients to vaccinate their children is democratic and not a dictatorship - well? Especially when its not the politicians money who pays the welfare benefits; the money comes from the Australian tax payers, but the Australian tax payers never get the chance to say HOW or WHERE their money will be spent - and you call this a free democracy? It was just enacted by a few hundred politicians, who omitted what 20 million Australians wanted - and that is what you call a free democracy? Forced vaccination of children is a MAJOR concern and issue; its not someone going out to buy a new chair for the office.

I don't see an uproar in the street about vaccinations. Obviously a majority of Australians are quite happy to vaccinate. Of course it's going to bloody cost money and tax payers money at that. If vaccinations keep everyone safe and happy there should be a common cost. It's a no brainer. The way governments operate here or in a democracy, is to present policies and gauge publics response. If most people are happy and there are no issues then they'll implement...simple. If you've got concerns about vaccinations get out there and tackle it rather than sitting on a forum whinging and whining.

Not too many people are into micro managing democratic governments. In fact most people do not cast their votes in the Swiss CIR system unless it's a huge burning issue.

What do you expect, every decision be put to the people. Of course we cannot approve every dollar spent. We can do something though, we can run as a candidate, we can support a party, we can support an independent, we can lobby the sitting member. Or we can sit on our R's and complain, the later being what most here do.

    Exactly!

We are employing people to do the hard yards for us. It's a pretty simple system. If they value their jobs they'll move with the people. We've changed governments 3 times in 8 years, which means change of employees, many of them. Those politicians who didn't value their jobs enough or failed because they made bad decisions, which the majority of people thought were so, simply lost em!

That's right, the people didn't want Howard, Rudd, Gillard or Abbott. Now we don't have them, sooner or later they will wake up and work for the good of the people, but by all means if you think you can do better, then run in an election.

Yep, everyone of them was given the old heave ho, even if it relied on polls a couple of times. There is a strong message, if you don't listen to us you are gone! CD is right on one thing, some do think they're rock stars but actually forget they are servants!

They will learn and change, the biggest hurdle our politicians, country and the world for that matter is the coming "Fall of Capitalism" which already has ceased to exist in it's real form. I am actually going to start a thread on it as I feel it is the singular most important thing facing us in the future.

I don't think there is a difference, I KNOW THERE IS A DIFFERENCE, but then I understand the system. If everyone did their bit, there would be no problems.

You keep rabbiting on about how stupid Australians are, yet you choose to live here, why, it has me totally lost, why not move back to your precious Europe that you are always rabbiting on are much more ecologically aware, much more politically aware, much better educated.

Australia doesn't need idiots going around putting EVERYTHING down, Australia needs people lifting it up.

We have too many people in politics, in university and in business who really don't care about Australia's or the worlds long term viability, we see it every day. Take this garbage about penalty rates. A cup of coffee costs about 500% more then it costs, I have a coffee machine and at retail costs the ingredients for my coffee are less then a dollar a cup. Around where I live would be by far the largest concentration of cafes, coffee shops etc in Australia, most Saturdays and Sundays there are people waiting at most for a table. The residential areas are becoming dotted with small coffee shops, nearly on every corner, every morning they are packed, selling breakfast and coffee. I personally think that these sorts of businesses have never seen it so good.

Like all costs, retailers spread their expenses over the entire range, over the period they are open. A few cents per item would cover the penalty rates and I know customers will pay, most customers come to talk to the barrister, it's not just a supermarket.

Business always uses the employees to control their expenses, we are continually bombarded with calls to work more efficiently, be more productive, business is constantly looking to reduce wages. Companies make it their business to create unemployment, "this machine does the job of ten workers, it does it better and faster". How many times have you seen that statement.

We have all our priorities mixed up, what will be the use of thousands of successful businesses if unemployment is so high no one can buy anything.

Lowering wages WILL NOT increase employment, it will increase unemployment. in the long term. That is the secrete phrase, long term, it is the long term that no one looks at, it's the balance sheet, what will we have in our pocket at the end of the week.

Now this garbage about vaccinations. If it ONLY affected THEIR CHILDREN it would be disgusting, but it AFFECTS MY GRANDCHILDREN so it's criminal IMHO.

Yes some children WILL have adverse affects from vaccination, but a small number. I really think the biggest problem is experience. Parents my age or older will have their children vaccinated, we can see the effect. I can remember as a young child seeing other children wearing calipers on their legs from polio. I lived in a small country town yet there was a half dozen of them. Polio is on the way back, once thought eradicated from Australia it is being brought back in by immigrants from 3rd world countries who are not vaccinated and others who refuse to have their children vaccinated.

Like global warming etc, it is better to take a risk and hope you are wrong, then not take the risk and hope you are right.

So where are all the bigots today, is this hard to debase, can't you say it was a "one off" can't you say I am lying, can't you say it is not reflective of the Muslim community

No you can't because it isn't. Look I am as appalled by what ISIS are doing, I am horrified that individuals are getting swept up in it and creating their own terror (Man Haron Monis), but these people are not representative of Islam then, nor it;s teaching.

People rabbit on here about Islam coming up to modern day standards like Christianity has. Well my friends, not all Christians are modernised and not all Muslims are stuck in the dark ages. No the Koran hasn't changed, and neither has the bible, it is Christians that have changed, as have Muslims. I know dozens that regularly attend their mosque wearing a scarf who normally don't cover their heads. Go to any Catholic or even CofE church on a Sunday and see how many older woman are wearing hats, my mother would never have dared go to church (CofE) without her head covered.

It is not the radicals converting the Muslim youth to groups like ISIS, it is those people that denigrate the Isalm religion doing that, ISIS is just radicalising them.

On holidays in Bali learning Arabic I thinks. If not, probably doomsday prepping! It is the festive season though. Sneaking in a few comments while the missus isn't looking. Just about to clean the barbie!

I find it interesting that people continue to post their racism and bigotry and still claim they are tolerant because it suits their very premise. From one post of racial hatred and bigotry, to one of complaining of others being racist and bigoted.

Talk about whining about the issue, not addressing it…

I guess we cannot expect more from them; after all they have no problem as long as you agree with them…

    Thank you.

The spirit of Christmas right here in your post.

I don't get how people can tar everyone of a group with the same nasty brush. It is incredibly irrational, just doesn't make sense.

And we have another one making excuses for the muslim terrorists. "You can't blame them, WE made them do it". And at the same time trying to pretend that Christian religions are just as bad, which is actually just another veiled excuse for the muslim terrorists.
