Anything we pay into we deserve ;) By the time I was 34 I had already met my lifetime contribution to SS.. Did they STOP deducting from my paycheck, NOPE! So I paid another 20+ years that never really increased my maximum monthly amount!

Personally, I'd have rather been given the option to OPT out of the system at the start of my productive life and MOST certainly once I had met my lifetime contribution to the system!

And it's interesting to note that the nations you cite are mostly dictatorships. If somebody PO's them, they just kill the guy or put him or her in prison for decades. You can run your police force a lot cheaper if the first time and especially the repeat offenders are dead or imprisoned. The system works really well that way.

Would you care to adopt it? Perhaps it's what the progressives have in mind once they get their "ideal government" in place.

Then why did these Democrat leaders call for defunding the police in their cities and districts?

Both sides have spoken out about “defunding” law enforcement. To those people on both sides I say….you’re all idiots.

    Both sides?

Be carful about drinking that AOC Kool Aid. The "defunding" the progressives are talking about is the review of the FBI and the DOJ which have increasingly become arms of the Democrat Party.

I don't think many citizens who are left leaning want to defund the police, it is just their elected politicians who want to defund the police.

Yes both sides. I have no idea what you’re going on about regarding AOC. I wouldn’t listen to that clown if my life depended on it.

You don't get it. FreshAir says they never said it. So they didn't. So let it be written, so let it be done.

    Yes.

Today, we have a one size fits all approach.

    The result is NOT good:
    https://abcnews.go.com/US/mom-demands-justice-after-11-year-son-shot/story?id=99598767

Obviously, that officer needs to be in prison.

But, the rest of the issue is that a significant segment of our population do not have faith in police response - as can be seen by those who want them defunded as they are perceived to be a threat.

Well, they should have thought things out before acting on impulse. The crime wave they created sure makes them look bad.

This is the Democrat defense for the politically embarrassing defund the police rhetoric they used in 2020. They say the Republicans want to defund the FBI. No, they want get control of the FBI and DOJ which now doing the bidding of the Democrat Party.

That is dangerous. Dictatorships weaponize their the national police force.

I think liberals look to much more homogeneous societies such as Nordic nations as what their goal is.

Dictatorships are authoritarian and while there are extremes on both sides only one side has a significant portion of their base that desire it.

I wasn’t comparing the type of government, just the budgets. You could easily swap out for other nations if you wish. If the US police force was a military it would be the third largest in the world behind the US military and then China.

Except we see calls for these “three letter agencies” being shut down — I rarely see anyone saying defund of shut them down say they actually mean reform them.

And when they say reform they simply mean republicans should not be investigated under any circumstance.

What do you do when the criminals have body armor and machine guns? It’s happened. Crooks don’t obey gun control laws.

Yes there have been calls to shut them down and rebuild them. The concern is that the leadership and some of the middle management have become corrupt politicians. Don’t laugh. The FBI has got serious problems. The firings that occurred a few years ago were the tip of the iceberg.

call in swat or the reserves, the military can handle it, the police don't need tanks and such

how do the police stop school shooters, often they have ar-15's and body armor? they manage....

I don't think they called either. Instead they screamed, promoted lies and outrage and blamed the cops for arresting the criminals. And they did call for people to go help that trash instead of arresting them.....

So now, we see they got what they ordered but had no idea that the criminals would get worse instead of better. Trouble is, the shitstorm they brought down hurts everyone. Good people pay for these fools to learn what the rational people already knew.

Yes, they responded to the experience that they got with the police as it exists.

What has to come next is a solution that people can live with.

NOBODY "got what they ordered". There has been NO change.

The 11 yo who walked out of his house with his hands up (as ordered) was shot in the chest.

That is NOT what anybody ordered. That kid called 911 and performed as ordered.

That and the NUMEROUS other problems are why our policing needs serious changes.

Today, it's quite reasonable to NOT CALL THE POLICE, because their presence is a risk to LIFE, especially for dark skinned citizens.

I'd like to see your evidence of change that has moved the meter on whether the population trusts the police.

no, they were upset that some police were abusing their power and killing people, things are changing since then though, and more cops are being punished when they do so
