I said that any spending could conceivably create jobs, but that it would be a net loss to the economy via a misallocation of capital and resources. In order to more fully understand what I mean, you can read Henry Hazlitt's Economics In One Lesson.

So your saying Unemployment checks dont create any new or additional Demand.........or Jobs........

    So.......WELCOME TO REAL LIFE.........

    More willfull ignorance......

Most Unemployment Insurance is handled by the state......both the benefits and the taxes.

....and the tax isnt .8%......it can range anywhere from .3-10%....depending on the state, the type of business, and the frequency of claims. And in a lot of cases.....the employer is also on the hook for a percentage of the benefits paid.

All 100% funded via theft from employers/job creators......all in the name of paying people not to work

At what point do Unemployment Checks go from being a "benefit" to a detriment?

I consider a job is created when there is new work to be done, and NEW revenue MUST be created, and it is not make work like CETA, and it is a sustained job and not in response to natural happenings we can expect. The TVA on the other hand would create new jobs from increased energy available, so government works can create jobs.

"When his father got a New Deal WPA job, the future president became an ardent Roosevelt Democrat." http://www.factmonster.com/ipka/A0760624.html

A little trivia to scare those who hate Neocommies:

My father worked for the WPA before going into the Army at 16 (prior to Pearl Harbor), and he helped build a resort for rich people in Oregon; that may have created some jobs in the service industry, but I do not believe in that kind of public works. My father did not become a Democrat as a result of that, or his living in a barn before going to Oregon, and looking at the stars though the hole in the roof of the Pine Mountain Authority farm that was given to a sharecropper by a little known FDR program of land redistribution; there was still a picture of FDR over the mantle of that farm in the 70's, and my father warned me not to say anything bad about him.

Timeline to back up what I just said:

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8jwmba9EGQ"]FDR Sees Homestead Project 1938/04/04 - YouTube[/ame]

May 1, 1935: "To the extent necessary to carry out the provisions of this Executive Order the Administrator is authorized to acquire, by purchase or by the power of eminent domain, any real property or any interest therein and improve, develop, grant, sell, lease (with · or 'without the privilege of purchasing), or otherwise dispose of any such property or interest therein."

    "The lodge was constructed between 1936 and 1938 as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project during the Great Depression." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timberline_Lodge {have picture of father there}

"In October 1940, the War Department ordered the construction of another Camp Lee on the site of the earlier installation. Built as rapidly as the first, construction was still ongoing when the Quartermaster Replacement Training Center (QMRTC) started operation in February 1941." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Lee_(Virginia) After plowing and using a cross cut saw all day they punched him in the stomach at 16 years of age, he did not flinch, so they made him a sergeant training recruits.

    ******

One could consider that an unnatural disaster or a mistake (man-caused disaster) can create jobs in the short term, but if the new thing does not create NEW revenue that would not otherwise be created, it is not a new job.

If my roof is taken off by a hurricane new work is created, only if it is unexpected. Since I found newspapers from Easy and King in my attic from the last time two hurricanes hit my house, I am figuring it is an expectation of work that always needs to be done, and insurance can figure accordingly, so no new job was really created there with Charley and Frances. If say the man-caused disaster of Global Warming increased the frequency of those disasters, then new work would be created.

New work is something New, not always expected. It is expected that the unemployment check recipiant will make expected expenditures, no new job is created or new revenue generated.

Without an increase in revenue from the recipient of the unemployment check, no new job is created, the new job does NOT exist.

Tax cuts do not create New work for us if the work goes elsewhere, or the lack of revenue is replaced by deficit and debt that creates a burden that decreases jobs in the future, so that is why I answered no in the other poll. Without having a balance and force to encourage the new work here, tax cuts do not create jobs.

If the line graph chart of unemployment rates includes government revenue or deficit, and some way of representing new tech jobs to see if it was just convenient to the time, then a bigger picture is created. You could have lower unemployment with the advent of a new technology creating demand and jobs coinciding with lower taxes distorting the overall picture.

    Where da Jobs be At?

Unemployment checks, which are from insurance you the business man paid, do not create a job at your business or here, unless of course you need to buy a new computer or something to pay it, and if you buy a foreign computer the job is not here; so I say, "NO" to the poll, as Unemployment Checks do NOT create Jobs.

    Short version of post:

No new revenue for the government from a domestic job, no new job created.

I cannot speak for any other country then the United States, but I believe every handout in the sense either directly or indirectly was a job creator no matter how small or large.

When your baby has four blocks and you take away a block the baby has three blocks. If you handout another block the baby has four blocks, a block has not been created and the baby does not have five blocks. The baby though might blow a snot bubble and think he sees another block, so you have to keep a lookout for witless ignorance.

Food stamps and welfare checks are handouts, where they potentially take money from one job and give it another for no increase in jobs. Unemployment is not a handout because it is insurance, where they take money from the employer and give it to their unemployed worker (instead of increased pay they have insurance). If you do away with unemployment insurance then the employee should get more pay and the business man nothing whatsoever, but everyone knows the business man is an evil greedy good for nothing silver spooned inheriting puke who never worked a single day in the Guf for that business mommy and the guy who did not donate the sperm built, and he has pointy toed shoes, a crew cut, and a red bow tie.

Unless you steal the money from Libya, the money you give in a handout does not have to create a job. You cannot assume that just because there are witless idiots graduating from our universities, creating these mindless bubbles, the money taxed for the handout was not sustaining an existing job. You can assume that the business man is a silver spooned inheritor, if they want to do away with the death tax and increase consumption taxes so those who never inherited a self-sustaining landed beer estate are the only ones paying taxes on beer.

The way government creates jobs is by making improvements, like a massive solar collector farm and smart electrical grid or another TVA equivalent, by creating energy that is potential for use for jobs, not by shuffling energy from one capacitor to another for no possible increase in power. Certainly the narrow minded business man does not see how shuffling leads to longer life. The issue here is jobs not witless ignorance leading to a return of the Obamanation, and a Reign of Terror all upward and horizontal on the Tea Party terrorists.

Someone has to be paid to print the food stamps, hand out the food stamps, received the redeemed food stamps, sign up people for food stamps and decide what is covered by the food stamps. This equals jobs; if there were no food stamps to be given out, then those jobs would not be in existence.

I do not blame the executive branch for this unemployment, as I have previously said, “this is not Camelot stupid,” but If jobs are created by an increase in the existing bureaucracy due to an increase in unemployment or food stamps, I would say that is the executive’s fault.

    ******

Dear James, “ It's your desire for a Camelot, stupid,” that gets Obama blamed for the economy. Enjoy!

    ******

I thought they went to a plastic debit card, and electronic transfer, that should have eliminated some of the existing bureaucracy.

Unemployment checks don't create jobs.. but they allow people to pay their rent and buy food instead of moving into their cars or shelters... while they are looking for work.

This joblessness isn't a sudden problem.. This has been on the horizon for over a decade.

You cut the text with your quote..

What happens if they can't pay their rent or buy groceries?

Most people can EARN more money working.

While I concede that some are hopelessly and permanently on welfare, most are not.

Do you know many men who don't want to protect and provide for their families? Do you know many women who wouldn't take a part time job to help their families?

    Did that change the facts?

    Unemployment checks don't create jobs--Margot

They will try harder to find a job?

I know a plethora of men and women that enjoy FREE MONEY and support government stealing from their fellow Americans.......they are Democrats.
