I was born and raised in Belgium. I then spend 45 years mostly in the US, and also in France and England. I also graduated from two US universities.
I probably lived in the US longer than ⅔ of the members of this forum.

And it seems that, as another FORMER member, you have a peculiar obsession with Belgium and WWII. . . Change your name often?

Sorry to jump in, but I literally was just talking to my girlfriend about visiting Belgium in the spring. Probably should have PM'd you, but it's the wine :)

    Just don't bring your gun!

Otherwise, Belgium is a lovely country, very friendly but spirited, with GREAT food!

None of this even remotely challenges the veracity of my post.

In this as in many other things, you have no idea what you're talking about.

I accept your concession of the points.

    Still waiting for your response:
If we're safe (as you say), then guns pose no threat.
If guns are no threat, then they do not need further regulation.
If guns are a threat, then we're not safe (as you say)
    So.. which is it?

No, dear! I didn't say WE were safe. . .I said I felt safe, BECAUSE I do not own a gun and I am staying far away from any gun owner. . . or at least those who are crazy enough to flaunt their firearms!

I do feel threatened around people who carry guns, and have in the past refused to go to lunch with three of my friends when one of them displayed her brand new handgun that she carried in her purse.

By the way. . .if YOU didn't feel threatened by people with guns. . .why would you feel necessary to own one yourself for safety! Duh!

    Oh... YOU feel safe...
    Well, so what?

    >70% of violent crime is not committed with a gun, so people with guns are the minority of the problem.

Your last statement is nonsensical. Do you carry a knife? Most violent assaults and rapes, and many murders, do not involve a criminal with a firearm. It does not take a firearm to commit rape or assaults that permanently cripple and disfigure or kill a person. Were any of the women raped by Muslims in the EU by Muslims with a gun?

There are probably people who wouldn't care to go to lunch with you either, but I don't know. If you don't want to be around anyone not willing to have no defense against being violently assaulted that is your right.

My worry is the people without guns meaning me harm. 80% of violent crimes are committed without weapons. Guns give out of shape guys like me a fighting chance against someone meaning to do me or my family harm.

I do have a gun at home. I also have a concealed carry license and carry a gun with me. My concealed carry license is now the same as a license to carry, due to the new Texas law, and I can carry openly if I choose to do so, as long as it's in a holster. However, I choose to keep mine concealed.

I only openly carry at places like gun ranges, hunting fields or tactical training exercises. I like David Bowie's Line (RIP David) from Panic in Detroit

He kept his gun in quiet seclusion-such a Humble man

Nice to see one of my favorite posters of all time over here

Indiana never specified how to carry so open carry has always been legal here and they have lifetime carry licenses.

I'm in Texas too. I was bowling league Tuesday night and a guy and his wife on the other team both had 1911s on their hips (very expensive Kimbers). Both were carrying in condition 1, the proper way to carry a 1911. I was amused. Kind of like a great big FU to the wimpering weenies who faint at the sight (or thought) of firearms.
Nobody ran screaming from the place at the sight of the weapons. Nobody fainted on the concourse. No shootouts in the parking lot.

The novelty will wear off in a few weeks or months and it won't be a big deal to anybody. Might even be a good experience for those who believe firearms to be invested with satanic power to cause harm on their own without human interaction. They might come to realize they are only hunks of metal and polymer.

I don't have a gun. Probably a good thing. There have been a couple people in my life that if I would have been drunk by a gun would no longer be present. I don't care if others have guns. I don't fear gun owners. I am too crazy to have one myself. I don't really fear getting attacked. If it happens it happens. I won't let fear get me to have something inside my house I am uncomfortable with. I have also lost family members to suicide by firearm. I don't blame the guns, but I still know it was from a gun. I would fear that the wrong person would get hold of my gun and use it to hurt themself. And if anybody wonders why I wouldn't put it in a safe, the odds of me finding a key to a safe or remembering a combination under pressure are minimal. My last moments would be of trying to get into the safe. Then not only one but two guns could be blamed for my death, the one that killed me, and the one that got itself stuck in the safe. Just too much hassle. If I get robbed, I'll die for my console TVs and 6 yr old computer and flip phone. If anyone breaks in to rape me, it is their own fault for picking this fat as@@s
house. Have fun with that. A bullet might be preferable.

I used to go shooting quite a bit when I was growing up.
But now I don't have a gun because I don't have the space to use it.

I'm pleasantly surprised as most Northern States seem to have more restrictive Gun Laws.

With the exception of some counties & cities in Northern Virginia, my State has very "Common Sense" Gun Laws (i.e. quite reasonable & anathema to NYC's Bloomberg who foolishly sent some of his "Big City" goons to harass VA Gun Dealers.

"Ih hyah-tell that sum dem boys neveh made it out of them "Moonshine Canties (aka Counties).*

Re: This Poll; I suspect that more than a few respondents chose not to admit that they had any firearms out of a not unreasonable fear of "Big Brother"

    Thanks

    * There are isolated parts of VA in which the dialect & many of the expressions retain the Elizabethan characteristics of the original people who settled the areas. Some of the folks who have never read Shakespeare or Marlowe sound much as if they walked right off of an Elizabethan Stage

Good for you! Rocks can kill. Never forget your gun when you go to a rock fight, preferably a long gun so you can blow their heads off outside of rock range.

No, I don't have A GUN. I have 12 or 13, I forget. Each one has a purpose. 12 ga rifled barrel semi-automatic browning for hogs; 30-06 semi for deer in open areas; 20 ga semi with slugs for deer, 12 ga double barrel for dove and duck (2 sets of barrels, 1 for each; and assorted others for squirrel and rabbits, quail and woodcock; with several at my children's homes as collectors items, hunting and self protection. The fool that believes he needs no defense weapons will die in a home invasion before me. My favorite for home defense is the 12 ga double barrel (short barrel - 20") with buck shot. Hard to miss at close range and my insurance will pay for the clean up. Join me in L.A.

Oh, and NEVER let the other guy shoot first nor lower your weapon to only what he has in so far as power.
