If I were you I would worry about privitization of Britain's NHS, and leave the subject of modern American conservatism alone. We are outside your experience.

 

Not so. I have been to the USA more than fifty times and have lived there for a short while. I have many American friends and none of them decides to give up chasing their dreams because they can do fine on welfare. The USA is by far the most dynamic capitalist country in the world and US corporations, reflecting the impacts of modern concepts like accountability, empowerment and delegation (which just don't exist in developing countries like China and are severely dampened down in Europe) are the best places in the world to work (and I have worked for one for a major part of my career).
America impacts my life, and many more people outside America. That's why we take in interest in all things American.Modern US conservativism impacts my life. I work in a global economy and am paid in US dollars (effectively, being paid in Hong Kong dollars).

As to the privatization of Britain's NHS I have given up worrying about that a long time ago. The debate is sterilized by two camps: right wing conservatives who want a US style solution and left wing socialists who want State centralized control. There are few genuinely liberal voices in Britain concerning healthcare. If there were they would be calling for a true social market model, mixing the dynamism of market forces with a level of regulation that prevented profiteering and monopoly. The systems in France and Germany are those which present global best practice, not those in the USA, Canada or the UK.

 

Among many here there is a terrible sense of foreboding. Something is ending, and no one knows what will fill the vacuum. I feel like a child watching my parents' marriage dissolve.

But the facts are that the Republican House HAS passed bill after bill to cut spending and increase jobs and passed each one to the Democrat Senate. Where the Democrats have done nothing. Nothing at all. They don't even bring the House bills to the Senate floor for a vote. But the leftist media spews forth propaganda that the horribly gullible suck up that the Republicans are 'blocking' everything. The Republicans are PASSING bills in the House. And Reid and the Democrat Senate present next to nothing to pass or block.

That's because the facts have shown that you cannot cut spending AND increase employment. That philosophy has been found to be wanting.

An increase in DEBT of $6,502 TRILLION. That is NOT spending, that is only the amount we spend over and above every cent we took in.

So OVERSPENDING resulted in the LOSS of 7.6 million jobs and you say cutting spending would cost jobs.

So HOW MUCH spending do we have to do to "create" jobs?
Especially in light of the FACT that the government CANNOT create any kind of a job but a government job.

Fiascoes like Solyndra are not created jobs in the free market, since they are financed by the govt, they are govt jobs, and the govt cannot keep them afloat either.

An aside, obama is pushing INSANELY for green jobs and wants to DO AWAY with gas cars in favor of electric cars. Are you aware that we do NOT have ONE electric car battery maker that is not in severe financial condition? Gas cars may pollute when they are operated. Battery cars don't operate without batteries. You might make a note of that.


Anyway $6.5 trillion further in the hole, and 7 million fewer jobs.

There is no language called "American." Maybe you're thinking of English. It's a Germanic language.

 

Brits speak English. Americans speak American. Many, many different dialects of American.

I was on a cruise line forum talking with some Brits and Scots that were going on the same cruise as us. We met on board and had cocktails. One young Scotsman talked to me for 2 weeks, in English. I don't have a clue of what he said.

 

You need 25 additional seats if you are to have a one seat majority. That takes a wave election. This election is going to be very close.

 

Different dialects of English. I know a few bigwigs at the City in London. They talk like they have shxt in their mouths. One can pick up a word here and there. But that's it.

 

It is now 2015 and I am happy that Obama was re-elected.
