Do you think the slaves were owed reparations?

Wall street feels entitled to someone elses money, and they think they promote success.

 

And that is due to the inferiority of black folk?

 

Remember: any black person over 60 was alive when it was illegal to sit at the front of the bus. There were freed slaves still alive in the 1950's (and probably the 60's).

Slavery was a catastrophe for this country. That's the strongest word I can think of, and it doesn't even being to convey the damage done by slavery. The effects continue to ripple on down through the years. The least we can do is try to make it right for the people still being affected by it.

One of the easiest things to do is invest federal dollars in public schools in minority neighborhoods. I've taught at an impoverished minority school for 20 years. There's never enough money to do the things you need to do. Federal dollars would really help.

 

Black people at MOST made up 14% of the total population. Slaveowners made up less than 2% of the total white population.

To even remotely assert this country was built by slaves is patently absurd.

And we didn’t steal the land from native Americans any more than they stole it from the native Americans who were there before them. The native Americans routinely wiped out other tribes to appropriate their land.

 

I wonder if anyone ever considered that reparations might not be best to any particular people or families, but community improvement. Scools, services in poor majority black communities, voch schools with schaolarships, I mean if it's gonna be done, not even touching on "should or shouldn't", wouldn';t it make sense that IF they did it, they did it in that kind of way? It would benefit others in that community, wouldn't necessarily have to be black to take advantage of said reparation programs, but if you are part of those very poor vast majority black communities you benefit too.

 

We have spent literally billions of dollars on inner city schools since the 1960s. We have government programs that explicitly discriminates against white peoples under the guise of equality.

 

That reeks of clueless stormfront logic. Tell me...how is any of that justification in making someone labor without some sort of reward or benefit that can be used for whatever they choose to use it for? Do you know how horribly many slaves and their families were treated? Where is the justification in that? You clearly are clueless in the history department...both that of the USA and Africa.

 

OK. My granddaughter had an almost straight A grade point average, so she didn't need affirmative action to get into the college of her choice. At least that's what I thought.

It's SUCH a bunch of crap too. If not for slavery Africans may have advanced even faster through European colonialism on their continent and in Europe.

SO many hidden prejudices, racisms, isntitutional racisms, that white people are almost COMPLETELY oblivious to. The ONLY way white folks ever understand is deep involvement with black communities that get it, and to watch how it feels personally to those you know once you are a part of their group socially. You almost have to live it, or be pretty closely involved to those who have to even begin to understand

If you are black folks, yes he is. The theory being that even if she earned the grades, more white kids earned that grade, but your daughter got prioritized among them. And there is some logic to that, but it's also another way white people whip up false fury over Affirmative Action.

I look white, pass as, though I have lots of "urban expereience", and I can see both sides. Generally I am anti AA these days, unless it's really well thought out and as non descrimantory as possible, but I also understand it and don't let it anger me. There are places it probably makes snese still to a degree.

He also acts like "Africa" is some small jungle pace all homogonous poor and black. It is a VAST continent, FAR bigger than ours, more diverse, and not all of it is unstable either. Many Americans absolutely are idiots which is sadly bringing this country down. It's weakest links are so inept, uneducated, unworldly and totally void of empathy. That would certainly explain their admiration for their standard bearer...like seeks like...kindred spirits and all that.

None. But I'm talking about what should of been done in the past. I'm undecided about the present. Since history is more complicated then most people realize. For example I wad watching a pbs show where they did genealogy studies of famous people, and they did one of a black civil rights author. Turns out she her ancestors werent slaves, but mixed race hatians who caught escaped slaves.

Also slavery has been a human norm for the vast majority of history. We are all decended from slaves and slave owners.

 

If I find someone who was actually a slave, and I happen to have some money from his slave owner, I'd be happy to transfer all that money to him as reparations.
