Hey Jango, we've talked about this before. I know you expected a better military reaction, but understanding the fog of war is very important here. You also have to understand how the military reacts to things. There aren't jets turned on, ready for the pilot to get in and take off. I want to say it takes at least 15 minutes to get a jet able to take off, I'll find a source. Lefty could provide more as well through his military experience.

When the first plane hit there was absolutely NO ONE that thought it was a terrorist attack. Every news agency, and government entity was under the impression that it was purely an accident. A plane that meant to land had an emergency and crashed into the tower. It really wasn't until 175 hit that things started coming together. They then new it was a terrorist act, but by the time they got planes in the air it was already almost over. Combine that with the jets going out to sea instead of over Washington, and the fact that the transponders were turned off, and it gets very complicated.

I agree that we could have responded better all around. Quicker, more precise, better communication. All that has gone into affect since that day, but I think your expectations are a bit high on this one.

Take something simple. In World War II there were a number of planes that could do over 400 mph. Could they build planes that could dogfight and do 400 mph without knowing something about aerodynamics? That was 25 years before the Moon landing. So here we are 43 years after the Moon landing. Are we supposed to give a damn about cars that roll along the ground at less then 150 mph? Does that make any technological sense?

But do our economists talk about planned obsolescence? Do our economists talk about how many cars we have thrown on the junk heap since the Moon landing? What is there to TRUST? They give Nobel Prizes in Economics to people who can't do algebra. And now they talk about BIG DATA. Isn't the depreciation of durable consumer goods for the last 60 years BIG DATA?

What happened to the depreciation of all of those cars since 1969? But didn't all of the new cars get added to GDP?

Do our politicians know economists are talking bull(*)(*)(*)(*) or not? I asked a PhD economist to explain how a car engine worked. He didn't have a clue where to start. Are they going to tell us about planned obsolescence in computer software? YEAH RIGHT!
