A measurement is never exact. That one foot measurement that you made might be adequate for you, but may not be accurate enough for someone else. Therefore, when you say something is a foot long, it is only your opinion of whether it is actually a foot because it might be too long or too short for the purpose of that other person.

I could not care less about the particular individual involved, rather it is the legal principle that gives me pause. I do believe in general that our civil justice system has run amok and that this is but one example of such.

Yes, I do understand that many people these days are triggered by the truth despite all the efforts at censorship by the government, but I don't see how these play-acting parents were harmed by the truth.

Jones crossed the line when he said that the victims were still alive and the parents were basically lying about their deaths.

You appear to be saying that no matter what harm someone causes while exercising what they believe to be a right or even a real right that no civil punishment is warranted. I just do not understand how anyone can accept to let someone cause harm and not be punished. The right to say anything anyone wants and cause damage with impunity is not what the first amendment was created for.

 

By cause harm do you mean hurt their feelings? What is the specific actionable harm that you are claiming?

 

If you think only feelings were hurt by telling all those listeners the families dead children weren't really dead and they are all in collusion telling a fake story about the death of their children, then you really don't belong posting in this thread.

Many of those families had to move several times due to death threats from those who believed the liar, the one you justify because "only feelings were hurt".

 

I am not saying that he isnt a world class a**hole. He most certainly is. But does hurtful language justify a billion dollar civil verdict? I could even understand it if his words were truly directed at one source as opposed to referring to a group suggesting they are crisis actors which is what I believe they are referring to. It is just not the same thing as attacking an individual. I liken this to that odd religious sect that used to protest at dead soldiers' funerals. Their actions are despicable, but that is not a proper use of our justice system. The legal reasoning behind such a thing is dubious at best.

I happen to believe that our civil justice system is way out of control and this is yet another example of such.

You can't slander somebody you can't issue threats to somebody but he didn't do any of that so there was another thread all these people are coming out of the woodwork saying how bad what he did was but no one could show me a single thing that they claim that he did.

If you watch the attorneys speaking in the courtroom they say it's not about any defamation or any of those fake charges it's about stopping the freedom of the press. They don't want Alex Jones to have a platform.

You are claiming there is not legal reason to punish such human turds such as Jones then you prove there is a legal reason not to punish him with civil legal action. In short, the First Amendment does not protect defamers who libel private individuals, and the government has a legitimate interest in offering compensation via punitive damages to those whose reputation is hurt by falsehoods. The Court held that so long as states do not impose liability without criminal intent, they should be free to set standards of proof for proving defamation against private individuals.

 

You are the one that is so sure that this verdict is just and I am asking you for the legal reasoning for why you think that is so. Rather than constantly trying to characterize my position, I am simply asking you to explain yours and why you think it applies in this case. This is not a trick question.
