http://money.cnn.com/2018/03/02/news/economy/europe-steel-tariff-retaliation-trump/index.html It has already started. I'm sure some steelworkers will be happy, but what about Harley Davidson workers? Trumps proposed tariffs will already make Harleys more expensive in the US (they are made of steel and aluminum, which will become more expensive with tariffs), but tariffs in the EU will make them even more expensive there - so fewer will sell. Does anyone think these tariffs will really help America?
Every single American will end up paying more for many, many items which will eliminate any benefit felt from tax breaks.
Does anyone think these tariffs will really help America? Not especially, depends what tariffs Trump responds with I guess. Cars should be a good one. They are made with steel. Wines is another goody. Just target their leaders. They'll soon drop their rifles and run. EU doesn't give a monkey's about the 28 countries they claim to represent. Go after the EU itself.
First of all, no. Some will be willing to pay more for those things, but those things are easily replaceable. People will buy other brands instead. Reducing American exports. Steel is different. It is a raw material. If tariffs are applied, either it will be more expensive to import it or it will be made in America at a higher cost (because it cannot be made at a competitive cost now). So Americans will be paying more for anything made with steel and aluminum. Look around. That is a lot of stuff.
Do you see what those things are made of? Steel and aluminum. Trump's tariffs will make those things more expensive for every American. But maybe a few hundred steel workers will be happy, so it will all be good. And did you totally miss my point? EU tariffs will discourage Europeans from "buying American".
I've owned a few, mostly GM, they are pretty damn good nowadays, absolutely not any worse than comparable German or Japanese cars I've owned but noticeably cheaper.
In the end is has to balance out. If the US has tariffs against it's goods and foreign countries don't then it's not good for us. They drop their tariffs, we drop ours.
Rest assured that you tiny contribution (if any, and it's a big if) will help create millions of well-paying middle class American middle class jobs, will take millions of Americans out of poverty and thus will raise the standard of living of the entire country, including yours. You like the idea, don't you, you libs want to put your money where your mouth is, right? Sure, but they will be reciprocated, Trump will slap tariffs on their cars, bikes, liquor. A la trade guerre comme a la trade guerre And given our huge trade deficit, we have much more leverage and much less to lose. The French will surrender first, as always
No. I would have used the imposition of tariffs as a threat or limited tariffs to match the others country who is imposing a tariff on us, the big US.
I love hurting oligarchs especially Russian oligarchs but how is that to happen? What is your theory ?
I did not say that actually and I don't think so. It's your typical liberal "the sky is falling, tax cut is Armageddon etc" fear mongering. But it will create millions of well-paying American middle-class jobs and will lift millions out of poverty. You want that, right?
Trump's trade war is going to create millions of middle-class jobs? LOLOLOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! omg, we'll be lucky if it doesn't cause a Recession.
Democrats and establishment Republican pukes put America on the losing side of the trade wars from the get-go. we've disadvantaged ourselves for so long, we've learned to accept losing as normal and good.
Millions... of new jobs. The steel & iron workforce in this country is like 376,000. You think they’re going to add millions of jobs? And what about the jobs you’re creating by raising prices and in it aggregate demand?
