Experts: Alcohol More Harmful Than Crack or Heroin

Time to make alcohol illegal along with the rest of the mind altering drugs. We need to repeal the 21st amendment and once again prohibit alcohol in this country.

Lets live a better life, one that does not involve any mind altering substances.

Lovely. What a great message to send. Will this curb alcohol consumption? No. People will just figure if heroin isn't as bad as alcohol, time to try heroin.

Y'know, I could almost see it with heroin, but I kind of disbelieve in that case, and I definitely disbelieve in the case of crack.

Not that it really matters. They should all be legal. But I don't think alcohol is that harmful.

Great. Either make alcohol illegal along with the rest of the 'harmful' drugs, or decriminalize all drugs so people can truly be free.

Please forgive me from generalizing here, but does anyone find it odd, other than me of course, that conservatives want gubment the heck out of their lives! but want the government to stop people from doing whatever they want...because of "moral" reasons.....found in a 200 year old badly written book authored by an invisible man in the sky??

They want the government out of their lives. Not everyone else's. Everyone else requires more oversight, not less.

When you are on a mind altering substance, you are now threat to myself and society. Your rights end at my nose.

Well in theory current laws already protect against "public" intoxication, so...under the law you're really only supposed to get drunk/high in the privacy of your home.

And to think that just because something is illegal, people will stop engaging in it is beyond naive. If anything, it encourages it...

This is talking about alcohol abuse. Casual drinking is actually good for you, even recovered alcoholics have a tendency to live longer.

Why? Well for one most cultures used a small amount of alcohol (1-2%) in their water to disinfect it for thousands of years, so we all have built up a resistance to it's negative effects. But it also reduces stress, which is deadly. Generally wine and beer have a few rare nutrients in them as well. Casual and even recovered alcoholics live 5-10 years longer than obstinate people.

I think we have to be allowed to be threats to each other or else we have no real freedom. What do we do next, outlaw martial arts because they make us potential threats to each other?

    Then, by that "logic", ...

    Coffee
    Cola
    Chocolate
    Good sex
    Sleeping pills
    Glue

...because allc of these can be "mind altering".

Every scientifically credible study of the behavioral effects of drug use shows that the ONLY commonly used recreational drug whose USE (not prohibition) is associated with violent crime is... alcohol.

80 years ago, the American people were intelligent enough to understand that prohibition of a common recreational drug was a public policy catastrophe. Today, they are not intelligent enough.

You're aware that nobody takes you or the article you cherry picked your opinion from serious, right?

    Just saying.

Fine as long as you give priority to those who need liver transplants who aren't alcoholics...

Study stirs debate over transplants for alcoholics
10 Nov.`11 – Some gravely ill alcoholics who need a liver transplant shouldn't have to prove they can stay sober for six months to get one, doctors say in a study that could intensify the debate over whether those who destroy their organs by drinking deserve new ones.

It is odd, almost as odd as "liberals" who don't lift a finger to stop the insane war on drug users.

Complete and utter nonsense. Millions of people ingest drugs everyday and do not commit a single violent act.

I say ban alcohol. I need a job and cooking up booze isn't that hard from what I understand. Once you're selling your hooch to the cops no one will touch you. Easy money.
