all the pathetic blaming your neighbor, all the pathetic sheep following along and kicking people out of stores, all the pathetic people come out in support of government force. America shown her true colors during COVID and it was completely shameful. How many people on this very forum talking down those who don’t wear masks. I can find countless threads. How many people were kicked out of stores? What a pathetic bunch of so called freedom lovers.

“oh what about my freedom to be disease free” (in a girls voice)

“oh what about my freedom to be safe” (in a sissier voice)

“it’s about society not individuals” (in a Commy voice)

Americans my rear end, more like cowards

The further removed we are from this debacle the more you will see reports as to how we globally handled this EXTREMELY poorly.

And that starts with the bullshit mask mandates.

The disclaimer up top says PF does not permit misinformation so I think the moderators need to get busy on deleting everything mask related

You might be interested (although I doubt it given your comments here) in results of tests for high-quality respirators.

"The filtration efficiency of selected NIOSH-approved N95 and P100 FFRs and cartridges was assessed against a MS2 viable viral aerosol challenge under high volumetric flow con- ditions, representative of very high work rates. The N95 and P100 viable mean penetrations were typically less than 2 and 0.03%, respectively, under all flow conditions. Viral aerosols typically do not exist as single airborne viruses, instead they form agglomerates that typically are larger than the MPPS of the filter.(3,4,6) In the controlled laboratory conditions of this study, the resulting MS2 virus MMAD was approximately 500 nm. As a result, the viruses did not penetrate the filters to the extent of aerosols in the MPPS range (typically 40 to 50 nm for N95 filters). Thus, the N95 and P100 FFRs/cartridges tested in this study met or exceeded their efficiency criteria (95 and 99.97%, respectively) against the viable MS2 aerosol challenge even under very high flow breathing conditions."

... protect wearers against covid. These P100 respirators filter at 99.97% efficiency.

Your pal Rudy wore one 20+ years ago following 9/11 even though he was happy enough to let police, fire, etc. wear nothing or inadequate protection.

Rudy knew and let the workers get sick. Fauci knew and said we didn't need protection.

Am I suggesting we require people to wear them? No.

How about respirators? Are you going to tell us a P100 respirator is ineffective?

    This;
    upload_2023-2-14_14-2-17.png
    Is obviously better then this;
    upload_2023-2-14_14-3-36.png

But again, if it allows you access to rub your face and eyes it is not absolute.

This, is absolute. It was designed for those with immune deficiencies.
    upload_2023-2-14_14-4-31.png

But neither your p100 nor the vyzr were mandated or even encouraged. Thus those who were hysterical that I have to wear a mask to keep them safe were not worried enough to wear either your mask or my superior mask. They were not worried enough to keep themselves safe thus they were full of ****. They just wanted me to signal that I was going to submit to their bullshit by wearing a virtuous yet ineffective cloth mask.

Now you are caught up. That was the last two years. We have woken up finally and the mask mandates are and always have been, more about authoritarian bullshit that was more designed to calm people down then it was to keep people from catching the virus.

I'm not bothering with the vaccine until you get one that is 100 percent efficient. And you can shove your mask mandates where the sun doesn't shine. I'm done playing that game.

    Obviously, so what?
So what? I saw people who were wearing a surgical mask voluntarily over their nose.
Why do you say that? Wearing or not wearing the mask was, most of the time, their choice. Businesses can decide to require people wear masks, prove vaccination, etc. Their choice.
Who wanted you to wear a mask?
The original mask restrictions along with social distancing measures were designed to keep the number of covid infections down. Pols were afraid hospitals might be overwhelmed by covid patients.

Then people like you started bellyaching, undermining the mandates including social distancing measures and ended up turning the masks into a political struggle. I'm convinced some liberal pols, pushed by their supporters, kept mask mandates longer than they might have if you had been more cooperative.

I figure Trump's covid performance cost you the 2020 election.

    24F4FEDE-3D1D-428F-A92B-C0D5DA92A0A6.jpeg
    Your choice.
What are you going to do if they insist you wear a mask or be vaccinated before flying in an airplane or taking a train? What if you have to be vaccinated dine at a restaurant?

Anyway, it will probably never get to that because there is so much exposure to covid with vaccines and infections.

You don't know enough about how economies work to have a worthwhile opinion. I'm not surprised given your support for Trump and DeSantis.

I am smart enough to know how devastating it was going to be in shutting down the global economy. Something we have still not recovered from and of which will be lasting effects. All for a fking virus that only effected a certain selection of people. And that data came out very early on.

That bullshit study again? I shouldn't blame the study actually, but rather blame fox news hacks for misusing a non-result. From the actual study:

    "
    Authors' conclusions
The high risk of bias in the trials, variation in outcome measurement, and relatively low adherence with the interventions during the studies hampers drawing firm conclusions. There were additional RCTs during the pandemic related to physical interventions but a relative paucity given the importance of the question of masking and its relative effectiveness and the concomitant measures of mask adherence which would be highly relevant to the measurement of effectiveness, especially in the elderly and in young children.

There is uncertainty about the effects of face masks.
    "

Here's a study that gets around those design limitations and is better-designed to answer the question. It found masks help, but wasn't a huge effect. Effect would have been much larger had people used N95s:

Mask wearing in community settings reduces SARS-CoV-2 transmission | PNAS

    "
    Significance
We resolve conflicting results regarding mask wearing against COVID-19. Most previous work focused on mask mandates; we study the effect of mask wearing directly. We find that population mask wearing notably reduced SARS-CoV-2 transmission (mean mask-wearing levels corresponding to a 19% decrease in R). We use the largest wearing survey (n = 20 million) and obtain our estimates from regions across six continents. We account for nonpharmaceutical interventions and time spent in public, and quantify our uncertainty. Factors additional to mask mandates influenced the worldwide early uptake of mask wearing. Our analysis goes further than past work in the quality of wearing data–100 times the size with random sampling–geographical scope, a semimechanistic infection model, and the validation of our results.

N95 respirators are better than surgical masks, and P100 respirators are better than N95s.

There are plenty of studies confirming that.

FOX commentators much be the most ignorant SOBs out there. By now practically everyone, except them, know the mask is not designed to protect you from others, but others from you.

You should be smart enough to know SARS was going to harm the global economy no matter what governments did.
It may not be over. There's no guarantee we won't see a variant that makes people more ill than Omicron.
It affected people who chose voluntarily to shift from purchasing in-person services sold here to goods made overseas. Instead of showing reluctant folks how to protect themselves, rightwing jackasses screamed "FAKE NEWS" and insulted people who exercising caution. They made it worse.
Yes, and you still don't get it.

Then in that case being that N-95’s were included then it stands to reason that N100’s would also have not helped at all either.

Yes, and I've already told you why that is. You continue to ignore basic mathematics, science, and engineering specs of masks.

And from The New York Times...

The Mask Mandates Did Nothing. Will Any Lessons Be Learned?

The most rigorous and comprehensive analysis of scientific studies conducted on the efficacy of masks for reducing the spread of respiratory illnesses — including Covid-19 — was published late last month. Its conclusions, said Tom Jefferson, the Oxford epidemiologist who is its lead author, were unambiguous.

“There is just no evidence that they” — masks — “make any difference,” he told the journalist Maryanne Demasi. “Full stop.”

But, wait, hold on. What about N-95 masks, as opposed to lower-quality surgical or cloth masks?

“Makes no difference — none of it,” said Jefferson.

What about the studies that initially persuaded policymakers to impose mask mandates?

“They were convinced by non-randomized studies, flawed observational studies.”

What about the utility of masks in conjunction with other preventive measures, such as hand hygiene, physical distancing or air filtration?

“There’s no evidence that many of these things make any difference.”

Trust the science you mask psychos.

Here's the science: Mask wearing in community settings reduces SARS-CoV-2 transmission | PNAS

The Cochrane review didn't actually have a meaningful result on this topic. Unlike the interview you mentioned, the paper itself was actually reasonable about its inconclusive results. And it's easy to see why. Mask mandates were not well correlated with mask use. Generally, masks were already in use before the mandates hit.

So the nuance is this: Masks help, but mandates didn't actually matter. So maybe the key was public education all along.

You run across one mask article in the NYTimes and now you're in the know?

If the "masks" don't work, how come medical staff working with covid patients wear P100 respirators and don't get sick?

Do you think they would wear them if they did nothing to fend off covid?
