Florida governor DeSantis signed into law a bill to ban abortion after 6 weeks of pregnancy. President Biden's White House called the bill "extreme and dangerous". The ban prohibits abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, but allows exceptions if the woman's life or health is at risk, and in cases of rape or incest, under certain conditions. The bill passed the state House by a vote of 70 to 40. Abortion rights supporters don't like this law because many women may not realize or be aware they are pregnant before 6 weeks. Florida is America's 3rd largest state by population. It is also the fastest growing state, their state population surpassed the state of New York only a few years ago.
I personally feel this law was a little extreme. I would have allowed abortion up to 7 or 8 weeks, with the permission of the father.
LOL, the old "cave man has sex with woman so he owns her " CRAP There are women who don't even know they are pregnant at 7-8 weeks...
This today, and tomorrow we can start blaming minorities for having so many babies only to collect welfare, and "tearing the moral fabric" for all the fatherless babies. Ronnie "El Caudillo" DeSantis has stuck again.
All this really does is make it so poor women have to give birth, or get an unsafe "coat hanger" abortion. Women with means will just fly somewhere. It's a shame that religious beliefs are taking over Florida policy.
It does not matter if the belief being forced on others is based on religion. Those that would force me to consume a pharma product are suddenly against forcing beliefs!
And there are some women (though it's rare) who are not aware they are pregnant at 24 weeks. That doesn't automatically mean we should let them do it...
I personally disagree with sudden cut-offs, and believe that in a perfect world, a more graduated approach should be used. Perhaps with some type of complex mathematical formula... But when it comes to laws, they almost always use cut-offs. It's for the sake of simplicity, since the majority of people have too much trouble thinking about more complex approaches. Anyway, that was part of my idea for a more graduated approach. At 6 weeks she can get her abortion, no questions asked. At 8 weeks she can get it only with the permission of the biological father. See? Graduated approach.

I can understand that, a woman not knowing she’s pregnant before the 6-week time frame. Now back when the overturning of ROE was very hot, 538 in their charts showed 60% of all Americans thought abortion should be legal in the first trimester, but only 28% during the second. Seems to me, there’s a compromise there that most Americans would or should agree on. Abortion legal during the first trimester. The extremist wouldn’t, illegal under any and all circumstance and those who believe in abortion being legal right up to and including partial birth abortions. But a compromise is out of the question as abortion is too important of a campaign issue to compromise on and solve. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/where-americans-stand-on-abortion-in-5-charts/
But most people who support abortion were not. At least you can pat yourself on the back and know you individually are not a hypocrite; even though you may vote for those who are...
Exactly. Wedge issues are the politician's friend. Real problems? Nah - too hard, too complicated and not at all sexy.
Which is probably why even in super-progressive Western Europe they have abortion laws that are a lot more reasonable (from a pro-life perspective) than those in the U.S. The Left was fighting so hard against Florida's previous 15-week abortion ban, when a 15-week ban is the norm in most countries in Europe.
Yeah this is going to hurt Republicans in Florida and probably DeSantis down the line. DeSantis has been good about getting behind bills that are popular, but this one never was. Florida had a good compromise at 15 weeks and this is undoing that. Or maybe DeSantis decided he's not going to run for President.
Curious Always said: ↑ I was against forced vaccinations. Totally irrelevant....not to mention incorrect. In the abortion issue Pro-choice pertains to abortion NOT every subject on earth WANNA see HYPOCRITES ? See Anti-Choicers who make exception for abortion in the case of rape..
15 weeks was a good compromise? How about 9 weeks, or 10 weeks. How about we split the difference, between 6 and 15, and just call it 10 weeks?
It's a damned if we do, damned if we don't situation. You'll rave about the inconsistency if an exception for rape is allowed, but then if there's no exception, you'll scream and rant about how women who were raped have to carry that baby. Either way, you will try to use that against the pro-life policy. Maybe pro-lifers should try to find some middle ground on the rape issue? Something in the middle, between yes and no, where it will be harder for you to complain?

YUP, and that's appropriate ... and NO Anti-Choicer has ever given a good explanation as to WHY. There would be no problem at all if people just minded their own business and didn't try to destroy the rights of women.
