The answer why Fox is a ratings monster is quite easy. Right wing authoritarians are pathologically devoted to the voice of authority. They watch Fox news religiously b/c it placates their psychological need for authoritarian domination. Whereas non-authoritarian people....read left wingers...get their news from an array of sources, right wingers are solely devoted to the Big Daddy no matter how asinine the message might be...see Benghazi. Any pretension to being fair and balanced is just more hokum for the rubes.

FOX is not perfectly fair and balanced, that is for certain.

However it is the most fair and balanced option between cable news

I listen to while driving all three channels a lot, FOX CNN MSNBC, and while there are certain personalities on FOX that are horribly unbalanced. As a whole, the network is far more fair, unlike the others it at least always shows the lefts side

There is no left wing counterpart to FOX news's obvious right wing broadcast. ABC, NBC, CBS, MSN, and the others are owned by corporations that do not brook employees (reporters) taking the monied elites (corporate owners) to task.

When have you seen Noam Chomsky appear on any of the 'liberal' news shows? You haven't. Don't delude yourself. There is right wing authoritarianism and really nothing else. There is no center and there certainly is no left wing news source amongst the major players.

FOX news is merely the worst sort of propaganda mill. Just b/c it placates the psychological and prejudicial predilections of a certain class of people does not mean that it's a first class news operation. Quite the contrary.

Fox is mostly editorials. Their so called hard news is filled with right wing talking heads who give us the right wing opinion on some of the news. In prime time, its all opinion programs, slanted right. It just a propaganda outlet, as MSNBC is on the left. I think ABC nightly news is as closest that one gets to real news on the tv set. Probably hard to get real news on the tv set these days. It's mostly propaganda.
