Dr. Antonio Falcon, a highly regarded physician in the border town of Rio Grande City, Texas told Fox News that his practice has seen a significant “uptick in cases in the last couple of weeks.” Falcon’s region reported a 900% increase in the number of illegal detainees who tested positive for COVID-19 last month.

Coincidence? He thinks not.

“The uptick in cases locally is certainly linked to the number of those coming across the border who have already contracted the virus,” Falcon said.

The Texas border city of McAllen, just 30 miles south of Rio Grande, reported that more than 7,000 COVID-positive migrants have been released into the city since February, and more than 1,500 in the past week.

I just checked the CDC Covid Tracker. I was bummed to see that now CT qualifies as "high" transmission, along w/ most of the country. No more yellow, "moderate" zones, though my state seems right in the middle of the bulk of those that are still orange ("substantial"):
Northeast: ME, NH, VT, MA;
Midlantic: NJ, MD, PA;
Midwest: OH, MI, MN, ND
Southwest: CO.

It's notable that even very rural states like Montana, Wyoming, & Utah are high, "red," zones. That's why it is all the more striking that a few of the orange states are densely populated, like New Jersey, Ohio, & Michigan. But maybe that is less of a distinction than it seems, with those states being just under the red threshold, not significantly different from some that are just barely over the red line.

To address your claim about death rates, however, that definitely doesn't seem to be as big of a difference as you suggested. The number of cases for the week was 35 million, and the number of deaths was six-hundred & something thousand, so just a little less than 2%. But a slight decrease does make sense, since the eldest citizens (65+), who are most likely to have complicating health factors, are now the most fully vaccinated (80%), with 90% having had at least one dose.

 

we really should just militarize the border until all the knobbers in DC can get their **** together ... nothing has worked with the swamp in my 60 years ...
