    What are you talking about?
Do you mean the Crimean Peninsula?
It is not Ukraine any more.

BTW, 2/3 of Germans are against the confrontation with Russia.
We do not want to be marionettes of the warmongers any more, we have learned from our history.

    Thank you!

A very informative clip, and this family represents the general opinion of the Ukrainians who live in this region.
They are Russian speakers, and their language is discriminated by the crazy racists from West Ukraine who are on the payroll of the "World Government".

The Crimea was Russian land till the Bolshevik revolution. The Bolsheviks did not ask the inhabitants of the Crimean Peninsula, if they want to be part of the newly created "Soviet Ukraine".

You steal a land if you expell the population.

The land belongs to the inhabitants of the land, period.

The inhabitants of the Crimean Peninsula voted for their future.

According to your crazy logic the settlers in North America had "stolen" British land, because this territory (today called USA) was part of the British Empire.

    :D

Land theft looks differently, and Palestine is a good example of land theft and ethnic cleansing, but USA closes a blind eye on this land theft that is going on since 1948.

I doubt it, because they did not speak Ukrainian in this clip, they spoke Russian, no single Ukrainian word.
It seems that you do not speak neither Ukrainian, nor Russian.

    :D

The translation into English was accurate!

Remember Occupy Wall Street? Those peaceful protests were shut down with brutal authority, violence and arbitrary arrests to the tune of thousands. Americans will never allow even peaceful dissent in their own borders, but claim it's a right everywhere else. The only difference is, Russia did not send politicians to NY to encourage violence and regime change in Washington.

Their supporters would never allow that (*)(*)(*)(*) in America. Throwing an entire constitution out the window, overturning the democratically selected choice, and throwing the whole country into chaos and uncertainty is totally cool if they do it to some country on the other side of the world. But they would NEVER allow that in their own country and would cry that they are victims if Russia ever tried to instigate that kind of thing. Obama is an unpopular leader. There's no proof Yanakovych's decision to not sellout to an EU buyout scam worse than Greece, was really unpopular among the people as a whole. Even if it was, an unpopular decision made by your leader is no excuse to start torching cops, occupying buildings and threatening politicians for their own lives.

Not only that, but the separatists of today are called "terrorists" because they armed themselves (a few of them did anyway) they occupy public buildings (just like NATO puppets in Kiev) etc. Yet these are the same tactics they used in order to usurp the throne. They then outlawed peaceful protest as first order of business.. So they're saying that what they did themselves just months earlier, while claiming that was the righteous and justified path that granted them due authority, are now saying those same tactics are not justified and better off illegal?

If their policy were consistent, it would make more sense. But the Western Alliance support brutal unelected dictatorships to massacre hundreds of peaceful protestors and still give them free weapons (like Egypt) and certain authoritarian regimes like Saudi Arabia commit abuses and get no pressure from the USA. They quash revolt in some countries and incite it in others. The only way to make sense out of it is to discard the insincere rationale they give for it, and instead assign the real rationale, what's in their best strategic interests. Then it becomes clear why.

I think you're mistaking my response as a defense of our strategy.

My response is only here to show that it's 2 sides of the same coin.

Yanukovych's corruption is well documented since what led up to the Orange Revolution, and elections in general seem to be somewhat questionable in their accuracy in Ukraine.

Also, Yanukovych was disavowed from his own party, so that makes it clear that, although we certainly have meddled, the ousting itself required a significant amount of domestic opposition to Yanukovych. An entire legislature is not so malleable that our money alone can force something like this.

There are surely questions of constitutionality in the ouster, but ultimately, violations of their constitution fall with the legislators themselves.

As before, there are legitimate questions about the accuracy of their elections.

Does this justify our intervention? No. Does this mean the elections actually represent the will of the governed? Maybe yes, maybe no...

For me, this argument is not about right or wrong. I'm merely explaining what I understand to be the reasoning used by those making the decision to get involved.

My own morals are against messing with other countries, but clearly, morals aren't the focus of our foreign policy.

Yanukovych was trying to set up multiple business deals with Russian oil and gas providers. To his credit, he did renegotiate certain terms with the intent of tilting things more in Ukraine's favor. However, at this point, he's being used by Russia as a figure to stall the development of the next regime.

He's not a puppet in the sense of being wholly compliant with Russia's wishes but rather a puppet of circumstances. Before he was ousted, he was the most friendly to Russia's interests among the prospective leaders. So, I will concede that he didn't start out as a complete pawn or puppet, but by now, he's merely a useful distraction.

The EU certainly has that worry, but the US doesn't. We apparently have a much larger oil supply than originally thought.

But yes, the most energy dependent nations on Russia's oil and gas within the EU must proceed with caution. Germany seems to be particularly wary in what to do next.

Situations can change with the right prodding.

Also, we're not the only ones who stand to gain from an energy shift away from Russia. There is plenty of Saudi oil to go around, and we all know how much growing influence they have in Europe (particularly the UK).

The bolded part is the sad inevitability of things.

Might doesn't make right, but it apparently has ruled since the beginning of humanity. In a much less sophisticated way, the same directs the rest of the animal kingdom.

Can you see any Ukrainians and any Ukraine on this map?

There were Small Russians (Petits Russes in French), but no Ukrainians.

Ukraine is no word at all, it means "Province" in Russian, and this Russian province was called Малая Россия.

Great! "Grand Russes" and "Petit Russes" are one, this is a medicinal fact as Ostap Bender used to say.

russes. Not `russian` because there were no russians

What about `great` and `petite` - that's a sad thing for you, in comparison with `micra Ellada` and `megale Ellada` relatively to Greece

Americans are full of their "esxceptionalism". They have the "best" democracy and the best way of life in planet Earth. Everybody wants to migrate in here. Therefore, they do not need to know about other countries, their geography, culture and history. In fact our democracy is archaic and needs to be reformed and updated. Actually, our generals helped to establish better democratic systems in Japan and other defeated during WWII countries, then that at home, in USA.

French word `Russe` has the same for `Ruthenia` word, which was old name of Ukraine's territory.
By the way, that map is for 19th century, after `Treaty of Pereyaslav` since when Moskowia took our name and become Russia (french's Russie).

yes, not often a situation happens when citizens, surrounded by police officers and army who have the weapons to protect them, say to the thieves – “please steal us”. This means they are afraid of something bigger...

If they were afraid of the weakness against the Russian army they could go from invaders to depth of Ukraine...
But the majority of them wanted to continue to serve in the Russian army and they stay with people who live there. It's means, what not thieves to them came, but Robin Hood (Robin Putin)

Not really. It was invalid as far as democractic process goes. The nuSoviet pretense of military force to assert 'security' only applied to pro-Putin supporters. The nuSoviet forces did not create a free and fair environment without intimidation for an election to take place.... what they did was orchestrate a local uprising among a Russian majority province and then reinforce them with Russian military forces to rush through a shame election.

They are trying to do the same thing in Eastern Ukraine because of the higher proportion of Russian blood among the population and the fear that the nearby Russian military is exerting over a potential invasion and conflict against the Ukraine military in that region. Civilians often side with whoever appears strongest in a war because they simply do not want to get killed. The fact the Russia is doing nothing to stop the nuSoviet 'terrorists' in the Ukraine, and the speed and organisation of its mobility to action and integration with Russian forces means blind Freddy can see exactly what is happening.

Crimea is one thing, clearly the Russian gov. were scared about loosing it's base there even though the thief Yanukovych extended the lease for it with them - but the Ukraine mainland itself is another matter entirely.

Well, if your unable to tell the difference between polished propaganda from the Russian media and Nationalist trolls, versus the intermittent and fragmented nature of live and commercially influenced western media... nothing I say is going to wake you to whats going on.

Most citizens in the West have not paid one milisecond of attention to the blatantly obvious propganda BS from Russian media, and haven't really cared so much about it yet to bother expressing their concern - most of us are used to screening false news from real news and most of us (the rest of the world) just wait to see how much trouble nuUSSR is going to get itself (and others) into. World Wars are easy to start, but bloody hard to stop... have no doubt if you want to take things to some absolute level of who was right and who was wrong, Russia was in the wrong and started it.

Here is a medal from Russia for your efforts in spreading their propganda, clearly showing the date the operation began (when Russian snipers opened fire in Kiev).

The 'Rus' settled Kiev, and the Rus and Russian is the same. Anyway according to Wikipedia New Russia which Putin referred to was southern Ukraine, and Small Russia is Eastern Ukraine.

Why are you calling me a liar, it's the person in the video who is saying it. I don't know Ukrainian. But why are they calling someone who doesn't jump a Russian, sounds very derogatory to me? :confuse:

Ruthenia is Latin for Russian. You are all Russian you know, whether you like it or not. Look Elf, the division in that part of the world had to do with the bishop they were under. Kiev was the head of the Church of the 'Rus', and then it moved to Moscow. The only recognized Orthodox Church in Ukraine is under the Moscow Patriarchate. The other ones are not recognized, and they shouldn't be recognized since nationalism is a sin in the Orthodox Church. Nations are not supposed to have their own Church.

Uhhh! I hate to break your bubble, but the sniper was in the building occupied by the maidan 'protesters'. The evidence was ignored by the junta in Kiev, and it's being referred to the court at the Hague. Seems the doctor reports show that the bullets that killed the protesters and the police came from the same gun. Watch and listen to the President of Estonia as he tells Ashton, you might actually learn something. It's little things like this that you won't find on our media news. Live and learn I say, live and learn. :oldman:
