I agree, though as seen, some are trying to use this to attack the lack of religion as well... two sides of the same coin

No, actually it is dismissal of any belief that relies on the theistic god.

Degrees of freedom are only existing if something is existing - but it makes absolutelly no sense that something is existing at all - except the belief in god is more than a belief only.

Because the idea of a theistic god is a joke.

Unless you of course, you enjoy paradoxical philosophical minefields.

I love Christians. But I want to point out that Jesus hates, for one thing, say, Hindus, since he selfishly won't allow them to his elitist exclusive country-club in the sky. He's perfectly fine with relegating Ghandi to ETERNAL TORTURE. Obviously Jesus was not a moral person. It's all about him "the only way to the father is through me" (or whatever)......me, me, me! A modern Secular Humanist would say, if they controlled access to heaven/hell, etc. that punishment would be based on MORALITY AND GOOD WORKS of the person, not on just what I-won't-prove-myself magical invisible dead superhero. That's because we are more moral than Christians. I am a former Christian, but they I studied it more than when I just blindly "believed". I don't hate, but Jesus/Moses/Mohammad clearly did.

No, it's designed to get them to think about their INCREDIBLY illogical belief system. Virgin births, magic, walking on water, killing your own son with horrendous torture because you're too uncreative to come up with a better idea (a 6 year old could come up with a better way - "why didn't he JUST FORGIVE US instead o torturing his own son!?"), etc.

    There are three aspects here:
    Blind faith
    Philosophical Christians
Philosophical Christians that practice educated and informed faith

I fall in the latter leaning toward the center. I also do believe that the removal of beliefs greater than just the me attitude has contributed to the violence.

Any belief system that says to kill gays, and is too cowardly too change that in it's texts that it gives to its might-turn-out-to-be-gay young children is a joke, and a cruel, immoral one at that. Do you realize that you might be giving your kids a book that say that are so low, so dispicable, that the ultimate moral authority ("god") says that they are not even worthy of life!? That's disgusting! I'd be ashamed of myself being a Christian (that's one reason I left that cult.) How many Christian/Muslim parents (only "god knows", however), have indirectly caused their children to commit suicide because they gave them the Bible/Qur'an, etc.! I'm too good of a parent to do that, and you can too, by becoming a modern Secular Humanist.

OT and NT there please separate. Also if people followed the Bible we would not be in this mess.

I'm not trying to belittle the religious children who died, just the people who think that an all-powerful entity would have such screwed up PRIORTIES that he WILL help one team beat the other team (not terribly important) if someone prays to him enough, but will NOT help innocent children who are being slaughtered for now reason, even though they are pleading to Jesus FOR THEIR LIVES! Clearly Jesus is invisible for a reason.

If people hadn't followed the Bible's incredible acceptance of slavery then the bloodiest war for Americans (the Civil War) may not have taken place.

Jesus, in Matt 5:17, said he came to fulfill the old laws (ie OT). Did he renounce killing of gays, specifically? No, because he's not as moral as Richard Dawkins who has called killing of gays abominable.

In other words they don't follow what the Bible says, because it's so unbelievably atrocious.

Example: Men are holy to god, but no mention of females: Luke 2:23 "As it is written in the law of the LORD, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord."

Where does Christ say kill the gays? Where is the NT stoning?

Raise your standards, my man. When the first part of the book about you says in multiple places to slaughter gays, a moral person has an obligation, in 2000 years, to say that's simply wrong. I would, and I bet you would too. I bet even a 10 year old with Down Syndrome would do that, because he's more moral than this "Jesus" myth! But "Jesus" - if he even existed - didn't know any better, because he was not some divine god, but just a man living in a barbaric time. We was therefore immoral by today's standards. I'd expect MORE from a "god", don't you?

Again, Mt 5:17 he says he came to fulfill the old laws (OT).

Jesus could clear all this up for us right now for us, if he existed and was moral (should we kill gays like his book says, or not?), but he, even though they claim he can even control events anywhere in the world at any time (like listen to and even answer prayers), chooses not too....so he's just a make-believe entity like the other 200,000 gods/prophets throughout history.

So you DON'T give your family the OT, because it's so vile? Or do you give them the OT? Stop giving them the OT, and then we'll talk about you following a more moral belief system than MSH (modern Secular Humanism). Just a friendly suggestion.

Freedomseeker isn't interested in progressing with knowledge as he was already told "thou shalt not kill" applies to everyone, including gay people. No honest person can read the teachings of Jesus and come to the conclusion that he meant "except for gays." I guess unless Jesus said "hey, don't kill gay people either" would have made it a bit more clear for those that can't grasp a general idea.

Yes to fulfill the punishment of the death that the OT promised. A spiritual death where no natural man could keep the commandments and ordinances. Christ bore the hellfire for the believer.

I really feel that you just don't get it. Thats Okay though most Christians don't either.

One thing we can both agree on was that Jesus may have been the world's lousiest communicator, since even 100 pastors in the same room would likely have 10 DIFFERENT interpretations as to what they think Jesus was really trying to say. Clearly a divine, all-knowing, all-powerful entity would be a better communicator than an 8 year old!

There are many contradictions about Christ in the Bible. Its true that he says that not one letter of the OT law will be changed .. but then he says to the crowd wanting to stone the adulterer "Let Ye without sin cast the first stone" and when the crowd leaves says to the adulterous woman "if they do not condemn you then neither do I"

Many different stories from many different people were compiled to create the Bible .. these stories were written many decades after the fact my many people and most was from oral tradition. (the original disciples were Jews, not real literate, and certainly did not speak or write Greek)

A large portion of the OT is from Paul and he never even met the living Jesus .. John is a fusion of Pauline and another "Johanine" tradition.

Matt and Luke were taken from Mark and some other unknown document labled as "Q". The oldest versions of the Bible do not have the long ending of Mark (which is important because this is the resurrection story) .. the original version ended with the empty tomb.

Since the stories about Jesus are so diverse and contradictory .. we really do not have an accurate picture.

What perhaps can be said with certainty is that the modern Protestant/Catholic/Orthadox version of Jesus is definately not accurate.

So... don't blame Jesus for the misrepresentations given him by the raging masses.

It is not the one speaking it is the ones trying to make the words mean what they want them to mean.

    Peter II addresses this:

    2 Peter 2
    New International Version (NIV)
    False Teachers and Their Destruction

2 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. 2 Many will follow their depraved conduct and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. 3 In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.

4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell,[a] putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment; 5 if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others; 6 if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7 and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the depraved conduct of the lawless 8 (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)— 9 if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials and to hold the unrighteous for punishment on the day of judgment. 10 This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the flesh[c] and despise authority.

Bold and arrogant, they are not afraid to heap abuse on celestial beings; 11 yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not heap abuse on such beings when bringing judgment on them from[d] the Lord. 12 But these people blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like unreasoning animals, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like animals they too will perish.

13 They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done. Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.[e] 14 With eyes full of adultery, they never stop sinning; they seduce the unstable; they are experts in greed—an accursed brood! 15 They have left the straight way and wandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Bezer,[f] who loved the wages of wickedness. 16 But he was rebuked for his wrongdoing by a donkey—an animal without speech—who spoke with a human voice and restrained the prophet’s madness.

17 These people are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them. 18 For they mouth empty, boastful words and, by appealing to the lustful desires of the flesh, they entice people who are just escaping from those who live in error. 19 They promise them freedom, while they themselves are slaves of depravity—for “people are slaves to whatever has mastered them.” 20 If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. 22 Of them the proverbs are true: “A dog returns to its vomit,”[g] and, “A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.”

Where does Jesus say "Ignore the Law, I'm the Law now"?

    Leviticus 20:13
