An irate Democratic chairman slammed his gavel during a House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on voting rights Thursday after a black lieutenant governor recounted Republican leadership historically on civil rights and demanded he not be used as a "pawn" for the Democrats' election "agenda."

North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, a witness in the Democratic-led hearing, affirmed in questioning by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, that it was the Republican Party that passed the 13th Amendment abolishing slavery, the 14th giving blacks citizenship and the 15th granting the right to vote. And the 1964 Civil Rights Act was "led heavily by Republicans."

"That history is clear, who stood on which side at every turn in history," said Robinson.

"What we want is integrity," he said. "We don't want power ... we want to have the best election system in the world."

The Lt. Governor of North Carolina was exactly right. His words to that committee about the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment were spot on. Democrats on that committee were unprepared to hear an African American address them so bluntly. What he said about voter ID and African American was exactly right as well.

Here’s the brilliant opening statement by the Lt. Governor of North Carolina, Mark Robinson.

Democrats reserve a special place in their Civil Rights version of hell for black politicians who identify as Republicans. If you leave the Democrat party plantation they will hunt you down and destroy you.

It is the Democrat party which still harbors the bigots and supremist.

I would have to agree. Chauvin's trial for instance was always touted as being about racism by leftist media, leftist groups, and Democratic politicians, yet race wasn't ever mentioned in his trial and he wasn't charged or convicted with a hate crime.

Plantation huh? Sad you guys need such condescending excuses for why blacks don’t vote for your candidates.

As opposed to the condescending phrases that Democrats use against blacks that are Republican? Out of them all, I'd say "plantation" is the least offensive. Some you can't even say on this board unless you make it clear that its being used as an example. Such as "Uncle Tom".

I closed my eyes to really listen to what he had to say. Yawn,, it made me sleepy. He may have made a few good points but I don't think that pandering to the right is going to save him from the voters' wrath come election time. And, he forgot that Republicans cause long lines at polling places in black districts.

I’m confident black people know who their voting for. You keep telling them they’re confused.

In what way are Republicans trying to make the voting system the “best”? Sure they can argue they want is “secure” but last I checked they are against making voting easier, against technology, against instant registration, against mobile voting... hell, they are against people handing out water in the eight hour lines they have created

Anyone that believes this is the best system to do anything other than help elect Republicans is a moron.

They are in fact starting to do so again thanks to Trump. You realize that African Americans who are not democrats use that term on the democrat party...

Trump got a combined minority communities vote greater than any Republican since 1960. Those numbers are going to go up in 2022 and 2024.

I've never said such a thing. Never have used the "plantation" thing before. But I wouldn't be talking about telling them they're "confused". Democrats are the ones that believe that black people can't even get an ID.

Trump did not have to use an ID when he sent in his absentee ballot

all or none - and the id's should be free - and if anyone denies one with a valid id the right to vote, it is a felony and that person denied automatically gets 1 million in restitution for their rights being violated... then I am good with it

I mean if no one will ever be denied, then not an issue, so add in the protections

To some extent, they may be right about some of them....If you are black and the Democrats tell you it is particularly challenging for you to obtain ID and it does not piss you off, it actually makes you wonder about the ones who dont say "wait just a damn minute, who the hell do you think your talking to and about"....

Sure, if you agree to requiring full SSN's on all ballots with those ballots checked against the IRS database as they are inputted into the system and any duplicates or fakes are set aside for a full investigation in which whoever is using an SSN falsely is arrested and brought up on appropriate charges such as fraud, voting fraud etc etc.

nope, can have a voter id#, not ssn, that would be ripe for identity theft

but as long as you agree that anyone that denies a valid voter with a voter is committing a felony and if the person can't vote, they get 1 million dollars automatically, I am good with that.... might even encourage voting as people hoping they are denied

Where's the compromise? You think a voter id (which is just a drivers license or state ID or college ID in most cases) can't be used for identity theft? And I thought poll workers were trusted individuals? They're the only ones that would have access to the ballots. That aside, SSN's are stolen and used illegally all the time. Indeed 75% of working aged illegal aliens use false or stolen SSN's.

Condescending? Democrats flat out judge the entire black community as incompetent members of society who need special treatment because no matter what the issue, blacks are too incapable of achieving on their own.

We’re the only party who regularly elects black people to public office. It’s notable to find an elected black republican because it’s so rare. More people have seen Bigfoot lol

elected black Republicans are not rare now. Some for other minority communities as well. In fact every democrat member of the house who was defeated for re election in 2020 was replaced by a Republican woman or minority community member. In several cases the woman was also a member of a minority community.

They’re against those things because your side refuses to put in place any protections for fraud for those processes.
