That has been pretty much a given in social and cultural thought for decades.

Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan who was a liberal Democrat lectured on that very theme for decades.

wouldn't you just love to know what happened to these people. Or see a photo of them if they're alive, today? or maybe not.

"Unfortunately, many Christians use the Bible to support their own prejudices and bigotry. They talk about "biblical family values" as if the Bible had a clear message on marriage and sexuality. Let's be clear: There's no such thing as "biblical family values" because the Bible does not speak to the topic clearly and consistently.

It's high time people came clean about how we use the Bible. When Christians try to resolve difficult ethical and theological matters, they typically appeal to the Gospels and Paul's letters as keys to the question. But what about marriage? Not only did Jesus choose not to marry, he encouraged his disciples to abandon household and domestic concerns in order to follow him (Matthew 19:29; Mark 10:28-30; Luke 9:57-62). He even refers to those "who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 19:10-13). Whatever that means, it's certainly not an endorsement of marriage. Paul likewise encourages male believers: "Do not seek a wife" (1 Corinthians 7:27, my translation) -- advice Paul took for himself. If neither Jesus nor Paul preferred marriage for their followers, why do some Christians maintain that the Bible enshrines 19th-century Victorian family values?"

At least one of the apostles was married. She was martyred before he was.

A man of the cloth. More proof that you will only use the bible to further your own hateful agenda.

Rick Santorum would be proud! I have no doubt you would also like to go as far as criminalizing casual and per-marital sex. Your kind is whats wrong witt this country, Religious extremists who think they have the right to dicate to others how to live. Get out of my country you and your kind are not wanted here. And take your pathetic "christian morals" with you.

You have no proof that it is from a "man of the cloth" (as if such a think actually exists in a real church).

And since when does wanting people to avoid premarital and extramarital sex constitute a "hateful agenda"?

Having people restrain their sexual impulses to within marriage harms no one whatsoever and certainly improves many things.

I doubt there isn't anyone in this thread disagrees morals are commendable. Without them, I dont think you can be a good human. You'd be hurting people all the time and perhaps in very serious ways.

The thing is we all have a different set of morals and order of those morals and one set isn't right or wrong or better than another.

Forcing people to follow your suspect "moral code" harms nobody whatsoever? I beg to differ.

My kind built this country into what it became at its heights while the grossly immoral people have tried to take it down the tubes.

One way or another, I and others like me are going to take this country back.

So beware of being on the wrong side of history........

well if you won't say what those non traditional morals are how can we make that determination. I hear all this talk about having morals, but some sure don't want to say what they are.

And i'm not so sure that morals are so relative.

And once again, I've said nothing about "forcing" anyone to do anything.

I can't help it if you are incapable of reading the thread or too lazy to do so.

I think you might actually believe that. Of course, I suspect you will also be the FIRST to cheer laws against "bad" kinds of consentual sex!

You are filled with moral indignation. "Most moral indignation is 2% moral, 48% indignation, and 50% envy."

    Then get used to it.

Because you will always be vastly outnumbered by the religious people in this nation.

IMO, the greatest rule and a moral is the "golden rule". Live by that and most all will be just fine.

Now your starting to show the ugly side of being "holier than thou" that a lot people have disdain for and the reason no one wants your type of morals. Very very distasteful and this country is NOT for you.
We are a secular run country and you are NOT going to change that. EVER!!!!

Really? Then why do no such laws exist right now? Why has it been ruled countless times that government sponsorship of any religion of any kind is illegal and unconstitutional? Its great to watch Christianity die a slow death, then we finally be able to make some social progress.

And lets be honest here...Even if such laws were somehow passed and somehow ruled legal do you really think ANYONE would follow them? I certainly would not. I would laugh when they tried to arrest me and then I would apply my second amendment rights as you right wing extremists are so fond of.

You won't like the kind of nation the U.S. becomes without Christianity. While you loathe it you've been nurtured and protected in a nation built by Christians.

and you said "ruled" which means the courts, which hardly reflect the will of the American people.
