How does a Tropical Storm become a Cat 5 Hurricane in less than 9 hours?

Translation... Yes, you couldn't prescribe an actual storm strength absent your claimed intersection with climate change, and when called on it, you resort to ad homs... So typical.

Frequency and intensity/intensification are different things. I referenced frequency because that was the topic of the post I responded to. I thought ya’ll might be interested to learn something about hurricanes you didn’t know. I doubt you have been told reducing air pollution increases frequency of hurricanes.

But yes, humans are currently influencing the rapid intensification of hurricanes. Why is it interesting to you that I would not know that?

Of course we have to remember to account for geographical records of hurricanes. We don’t know how fast the cat 5 hurricanes that impacted the US between 1000-2000 years ago intensified. We do know landfall of severe hurricanes then equaled or likely exceeded landfall of cat 4-5 today. It’s doubtful we will ever know how quickly they intensified though.

How would you know? Clearly you are relying on their honesty because you don't know ;)

This is how disinformation works and how your trusted master of all things weather feed themselves, their children and pay for thier beautiful beach front homes..

The topic was the speed of intensification, not man made climate change which you seem to subscribe to.

Was this the first time in history the water reached this temperature? No. Was this even the first time in history that this occurred? Also doubtful. Having served in the Pacific area with wide expanses of oceans in the early 1960s, we lost track of typhoons because there were no satellites. It was strictly land based weather observations and ships.

You are correct. I misinterpreted the progression of the debate between the two other members.

I thought the topic had drifted to conditions that allow formation of hurricanes not just intensification. I was wrong.

Speed of hurricane intensification is part of man made climate change! I don’t just “subscribe” to AGW, I reap benefits from it every day. I’m happy to pass a share of those benefits on to you even though you are unaware of the gift.

My experts tell me to be careful what you tamper with..

At any given day in Wyoming you can look up and count at least a dozen chem trail in the sky...

Does seeding work, well, this year is on track to beat wyomings wettest year on record.

Ya it works and yes it sux to have government subsidizing weather manipulation. And I'm sure there are no dangerous side effects health wise OR atmospheric. Clearly there are some thing the climate master don't tell their parrots about.. ;)

My first recollection of very rapid intensification in a hurricane was in 2005 with Hurricane Katrina. It went from being a tropical depression to a Cat. 5 monster storm in five days! And, that included time when it lost considerable power while it completely crossed over the Florida peninsula from the Atlantic to the Gulf of Mexico! Once it got into the relatively hot waters of the Gulf, it really took off!

Confession: although I never was a total "climate change-denier", I can't help but observe the effects of both the sun, and the presence of over EIGHT billion humans on this planet. This represents a J-curve increase in population of 100%, just since 1974.

Note: it took all of human history until the year 1804 for the population of the Earth to reach just ONE billion.... :cynic:

Global Tropical Cyclone Accumulated Cyclone Energy has in fact declined.

Better to have stuck with your prior impulse.
Why I stopped debating Climate Science with Science denialists...
It's like arguing with election deniers.

To put a fine point on it. I wish journalists would stop using hyperbolic language. These storms happen. To date, we don't understand, or can model why a particular storm does, or doesn't develop into strong, intense storms. The unfortunate truth is we don't understand it. But worse, when journalists use words like "unprecedented" or "pic of apocalyptic sounding words", They do a huge disservice to the news consumers of the world. Obviously, it's a marketing tool used to get someone to pay attention to the story, but at some point, it's a boy who cries wolf problem because if literally everything is "unprecedented" what's the value to the word other than to continue to devalue to meaning of the word?

He’s not debating climate science. He says so himself. Your perception that he is debating climate science is incorrect.

But the conditions that generically make storms more intense are known. Like the temp of ocean waters and moisture in the atmosphere. Conditions that are more prevalent due to climate change............................................he wrote while saying to himself why bother.

    WOW.

I just don't see many people taking steps towards reducing green house gases. Government is not stopping people from reducing consumption of fuel and animal products. I do know a few environmentalists who consume a Vegan diet and ride bicycles. At least they're walking the walk. The rest are just looking to project an image of concern. Some will go as far as placing a "Save the Planet" sticker on their single occupancy vehicle as they go to the drive thru window on their way to pick up some pesticides/herbicides that end up in the ocean.

Feigned concern does not appear to be helping.

    El Nino and LA nina.
El for O for male, La for A for female.

El Nino recently cycled back in, so that's why you're seeing some more intense systems.

Pretty much the same way you know the experts you get your pseudo-facts from ARE lying to you.. Just like most of the people who you habitually "parrot" have been shown in court to have lied because.... that's how they make a living; the people I "parrot" have not.
