when I lived in CT I often traveled past the colt factory in Hartford. It has a minuet on it-apparently due to colt timely filling a revolver order for the Russians

I grew up looking at a WWII German Schmeiser Machine Pistol hung on our wall. It was fully functional and fully automatic. My father had been wounded with that very rifle while in France. He got nervous finally about the illegality of it in the early eighties and gave it to a museum in Kentucky. I would have loved to have it. He and his brother were said to have taken it "rabbit hunting" once or twice.

You see, I was taking the ferry across the sound on my way to a shooting spot when all of a sudden they all fell out of my car into the water. It was tragic.

Nope! If someone breaks in who has a gun I am aiming for the eyes! Don’t care what I throw.

    Bottom line

    I AM FIGHTING BACK!

You could just as well scatter banana peels on the floor & hope that'll save you from a murderous active shooter. Ye gods.

But I'm not here to suggest you shouldn't fill your pockets with hockey pucks. I'll stick with my .357. I like my odds better than yours, but to each his own.

    And there it is

tThe American belief that you are defenceless without a gun. Shakes head. If people are so defenceless without guns - why are not mor Aussies killed by armed criminals?

Come to that why not more Brits, Swedes Europeans etc etc etc

Kindly cite where I have stated, suggested, or implied anything of the kind. You'll be marginally more compelling if you don't try to speak on behalf of other people - lie about those you disagree with, in other words: the knee-jerk tactic of posturing libs the world over.

Regardless, I'm happy to live in a country where you can choose a hockey puck - LOL! - & I can choose a .357 Ruger LCR. I don't begrudge your choice. If you object to mine, that's a you problem.

I like to target shoot and I am a pretty good shot. But I don't carry a gun in public. I carry my walking stick if I feel there is the slightest possibility of a threat. My stick can be carried anywhere and can cause bodily harm to an attacker. And anybody that tries to harm an old man deserves to be poked with a stick.

I hope that you are never in a position where you have to fight back but I think that your idea of at least temporarily blinding an attacker is an excellent one if you're limited to throwing things.

I don't mean to alarm you but home invasions are frequently carried out by more than one person and never happen when you're expecting them so please plan ahead and make sure you know how many home invaders there are before fighting back

I've read that establishing a "safe room" with phone, weapons and supplies is an effective tactic if you're unable to escape.

Either hiding somewhere in your house or escaping are really your only 2 sensible options if confronted by 2 or more armed home invaders unless you are armed and trained with a gun.

Finally, having a dog also makes your house a little less attractive to potential home invaders. It doesn't have to be a mean dog but just one that barks.

I hope that you're never in a position in which you have to fight anyone off.

Save throwing pots and pans for domestic arguments...

    Good luck,

Never bring a knife to a gunfight.
There aren't many things you can defend with other than a gun when the other guy has a gun.

There are many who know history and know Soviets took away everything, but Russians (we were talking about pre-commie revolution) did not.

Used to fluctuate between four and five guns. Now I only have one house gun, a .22 semi auto, 18 shot, scoped rifle. I know it isn't ideal. But I can hit a bottle at 50 feet from the hip. And it's sighted in at 75 yards. I know it's a light caliber gun. I also know that I wouldn't want to be on the wrong end of it.

Some gun is better than no gun especially when you have multiple follow-up shots. Plenty of people have been killed by a 22.

Are you opposed to the idea of having an adequate handgun as a "house gun"?

Well made and usually well maintained handguns that are former police guns that are quite reasonable.

    I'm just curious.

    Thanks,

Everyone should have a shotgun, a rifle, and a handgun. That way you can have home protection while being able to hunt, go to the range for fun, and even have friendly competition with friends.

I've heard the experience compared to having a red-hot screwdriver jammed into you at high speed, so I feel like the .22 is underestimated as a dissuader. Plus they are fun as hell to shoot and the ammo is pretty plentiful.

I have a nice walking stick my son gave me-It has a sword in it. The stick is strong and durable and can be used alone as a self defense weapon. I used to train in stick fighting-two sticks one in each hand.

yeah: allegedly they watched Portuguese sailors-who fought with a rapier and dagger-and created their two stick or knife technique from that. BTW Portuguese sword fighters shredded Japanese Samurai

I can see that derivation, though the rapier part surprises me. It also doesn't surprise me that Portuguese sword fighters beat samurai. Contrary to popular belief, samurai primarily focused on archery, and even then archery on horseback.
