    Plus sadfully our Poorest have a really bad habit of playing Lotto { Powerball }
and literally throwing away a good precentage of discretionary income { like they
would even comprehend what that was } on stuff like Lotto and Cigaretts and
    junk food.
There's a reason most Poor are poor. They think and behave poor.
That is why so many Big Lotto winners who were kinda poor end up
burning their entire goldmine in no time flat.
They were brought up bad.No sense of discipline where money is concerned.

I'm amazed at these Home renovation and house hunting shows.
It boggles the mind what most big city urban homes cost.Whatever happenned
    to Urban Renewal.
    These big city homes which are located in community just feet { 5-12 foot }
from each other, packed in more like sardines and were built around the time of the
2nd World War with high ceilings and square rooms and basements with exposed
plumbing and electric.I lived in one of those homes my senior year in college.
Man it sucked. It had those old metal radiators which barely spewed out steam heat.
Creaky wood floors and really dangerous steep stairs to the 2nd floor.
Yet they are selling like hot cakes.Who in their right mind would arrange a mortgage
of $ 300-600,ooo for such piece of old construction.
It's because Trendies Love being in the Big City. They love just breezing out
their front doors and around the corner to their favorite tavern or little cafe,
antique store or hang out. It's a Liberal trendy phenomena.
I think it's Retarded.Proves that being Liberal is a Mental Disorder.
Oh yeah these Trendies love to ride their bicycles. They act like they
own or should own the road. It's a trend.Bicycles and little hang outs and
walking their dogs and getting tattoo's and buying $ 12 {6-packs } of
boutique beer and acting like little artsy fartsy-types in a Fellini movie.

Because those things say you buy two lotto tickets a week or have cable is here and now a diversion while saving for later is not a diversion, if you buy a lotto ticket for $2 you can dream of winning for awhile and spending money on a burger and shake in enjoyable now. Most poor don't care about tomorrow.

There's no money at the current time for urban renewal.

I live in a house something like that...an old farmhouse built in 1850. High ceilings (open to the peak in the living & dining rooms, almost 25'), steam radiators (best heating system ever made) still working perfectly after 100 years...beautiful hand-made wood trim, tongue-and-groove paneling on the walls (all the way to the peak), and herringbone parquet floors. The walls are cedar shingles, the roof is also wooden shingles. It has survived the worst hurricane ever to hit the area (1938), the worst blizzard to hit the area (1978), and hundreds of other storms (including a dozen-plus hurricanes) without damage.

My mother's house (about 10 years old) has more creaks and squeaks than mine.

Working couple with one child and an income of only $7200 [$600 per month] would have at most $720. of discretionary income. Probably considerably less. Doubtful that 90% of ANYONES' discretionary income goes to taxes of any sort. But the couple above would receive from the govt.

$2487.00 in EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT from "taxes" they never paid. . You also need to subtract from your 90% in various taxes,,,100% of the value of all foodd stamps they recveived. Those come from taxes PAID by others. Also subtract any welfare, any medicaid, and housing assistance.

They probably quadrupled their discretionary income without paying a net cent of any kind of tax.

A recent TIME article about millenials gives some good insight as to how bad the latest generation is. The entitlement mentality is troublesome. Rich or poor.

If you're making minimum wage you should be living with roommates.

A single person earning $16,000.00 per year will have at the most $3630.00 left over after paying for minimal housing, utilities, transportation, food, and medical expenses. His federal, state, city, sales, medicare, and social security taxes will be more than $3300.00.

You strike me as being a very dishonest <male genital organ>, who takes perverse pleasure in repeating Rush's lies and being a B1TCH for the rich..

Your single person(head of household) earning $16,000 per year will also receive over $2000 in EITC. His EITC will cover his FICA taxes. That reduces his total tax burden to below $1000 for state, city and other USE taxes. If state taxes bother him, he should live in a state without a state income tax, which is deductible anyway. And since he makes so little he would not itemize his tax return. Have you forgotten the standard deduction he is allowed on his tax return. THAT is to cover those local taxes and fixed expenses. Does the FACT that he would get all his income tax withholding returned avoid your consciousness?

You strike me as a person that would hide their head in ANY substance to avoid facing truth. But I'm certain that neither of us cares one wit about how we strike the other. At least, I certainly don't care what you think about anything..

And HOW,,,is anyone else but him responsible for his making a paltry $16,000 per year. He either SETTLES for that income, or his abilities are only worth that amount.

Either way, not my concern,,,,,its his to fix.

I could make min wage and work 40 hours a week renting my own place by myself, and if I lived an absolute Spartan existence (no beer, no unnecessary expenses, etc) then I'd have $600 a month left over in savings.

    - - - Updated - - -

Trailer is owned, lot rent is only $225 a month, electricity included.

Electricity is covered under my rent ($225 per month).

I only use propane for washing dishes or showering - I use an electric burner and an electric grill instead of my stovetop to save on propane

Read before you post why don't you?

I took your grocery and propane costs while raising the cost of rent with utilities to $250 and the cost of phone and internet service to $70 to be a bit more realistic for the area where I live, then added in the co-pay cost of prescription meds and subtracted car-related expenses since I own a bike. The cost ended up coming out to about $555 per month. That is a figure twenty dollars higher than my monthly income - assuming I never use sick days, never seek medical attention, never have to do any maintenance, do not replace lost or broken personal property, be a cheapskate around ones friends - never paying for anything, abstain from dating or otherwise pursuing romantic relationships, or purchase anything else. A person might be able to pull that off for awhile, though I suppose it'd be worth bearing in mind you would not be saving any significant income for future needs and self-improvement - which in itself would be irresponsible.

So in Montana at least, ya. I think a person could pull it off. Their living conditions would be rather undignified however and comparable to what one finds outside of the West, and the owner of the trailer park would basically be ones God for however long he or she lives on the lot on account of their ability to evict. I wonder though, could one make it work at an even lower cost with slightly greater freedom if they lived in a tent instead of a trailer and dropped their phone service?

    The question is moot.

No one will claim anyone can live well on $600 a month.

But the question is moot because we DO have thousands, perhaps millions of people doing exactly that!
