Most civilized nations have a national ID card that is literally identical to the first (laminated) page of a passport and most people order both at the same time.

It is so unbelievably easy and very, very hard to forge.

Ok guys, who is wearing his vaccine passport on his forehead these days????

Lemme ask you a question: do you know the historical source of why Johannes (in his LSD induced dream) referred to the right hand and the forehead???

Actually, it is a very, very small percentage of vaccinateds who are contracting Covid-19. 98% of hospital visits because of Covid-19 are the unvaccinated. Ditto for deaths.

    Facts, facts, facts.

In most cases, the vaccines are keeping the virus from getting into the "front door", but 90% effective means that possibly in 10% of cases, the virus still gets through. Here we see that it is infintesimally smaller than 10%. More like a half-drop in a galactic sized bucket.

So, get to work on your Conservative logic, or lack thereof.

When the Ottomans attacked Europe in WW2, do you think they were aware that they were setting the stage for the rebirth of Israel and the fulfillment of a several thousand year old prophecy, much older than Johns.

So... shouldn't people who desire to not get the vaccine be allowed?

    Speaking of facts...

    get yours straight.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/17/health/covid-vaccinated-infections.html

I had a breakthrough case, and since my wife and I had the same symptoms and she tested positive I am sure I was too. But I don't go into the numbers, because I wasn't going to waste my time getting tested.

Fact is, the only people being harmed by unvaccinated poeple is themselves. Stop trying to instill your authority over other people's liberty. And get off your high horse feeling superior because you put a chemical that is untested and unvetted into your body, which apparently isn't all that successful in stopping infections.

At this point I'm done trying to convince people (that is, online people; at work of course I keep doing it) to accept the Covid-19 vaccines. At this point I'm just saying, "You don't want the vaccine? Be my guest; just, make sure you register for the Darwin Award; you sound like a likely recipient."

Oh, and by the way, that brand new drug has now been fully approved by the FDA, as of this morning. The excuse that it is "experimental" no longer applies. And given that it's been administered to literally a billion people already around the world with very very very very rare severe complications, it's been more tested than most old drugs I'm sure people have no trouble accepting from their doctors and pharmacies.

It's impressive how the very same people who abhor the illegal aliens' behaviors of faking Social Security cards and ID cards; and the very same people who pretend that unauthorized voters are voting via using fake documentation, now are oh-so-happy about faking vaccine cards. Like Master Yoda would say, "In this one, impressive hypocrisy is."

So you talk down to them with Darwin jokes? That’ll motivate them! Good job.
You catch more flies with honey
I wish everyone was vaccinated to but shaming them into it won’t work. It will just lead to more resistance

What joke went over my head? I wasn't implying that YOU are faking cards. You are actually fully vaccinated, according to you. I was speaking in general terms, not accusing you of anything. Just, your post reminded me of this controversy.

And buddy, NOTHING goes over my head. My reading comprehension is pretty good.

Joe is not my buddy. What makes you think that he's my buddy? If you follow my latest posts you'll notice that I've been asking for his resignation. So please don't make assumptions about me.

As for flooding the country with Covid-infested illegals, I'm EXTREMELY against illegal immigration, but not because of Covid, since these illegals typically come to America from places that have a LOWER incidence of community transmission than ours, and in this, these aliens would be more justified in fearing us, than us in fearing them. If you follow a detailed discussion I had with poster 557 you'll see the math involved in this, and you'll see how ridiculous it is to pretend that they are the ones driving the contagion.

You might want to understand that the real dangerous variants that are driving the contagion here are the ones that came from countries that are NOT south of our border, and they are also countries that do not typically send us illegal aliens, namely the UK with the Alpha variant, and India with the Delta variant.

If like you all suppose, the illegal aliens from south of the border were the ones driving the contagion here, we'd be seeing their variants instead of these northern hemisphere variants, right?

I don't like illegal immigration but I'm not about to scapegoat them on Covid-19 to hide the failures of our own politicians and public health officials.

I'm not sure if you're talking to me, or to someone I have on Ignore. If you are talking to me since I also mentioned the Darwin Award, do know that my new attitude on this is recent, after spending six+ months trying to gently convince people to accept the vaccines, and actually using this phrase you've just mentioned, that one catches more flies with honey than with vinegar.

But now I'm done with this. They can't be reasoned with. They embrace ridiculous conspiracy theorists and junk science over real science. They are actually profoundly suspicious of real science. You know that facts don't matter to conspiracy theorists, right? It's an uphill battle and one that I no longer want to pick.

God knows how patient I was for months, while delicately explaining the ins and outs of the vaccines. I'm certainly the poster who did it most, here, as shown in my thread "State of the Vaccines" which was pinned by moderators to the top of the Coronavirus Discussions subforum, as they deemed it useful.

Still, one continues to hear the stupid conspiracy theories that the vaccines are gene therapy and will change one's DNA or sterilize you, that there is a vast conspiracy to hide hundreds of thousands of deaths caused by the vaccines, that the vaccines are the ones driving up the pandemic (utterly ridiculous... as shown by the fact that the Delta variant was first detected on October 5th, 2020, much before the vaccines started being given to people; and the vaccines only codify for a spike protein, not for the whole virus so they can't transmit the disease) so at one point one says, OK, I've used enough honey.

No more honey. I'm not spending my time and energy in getting more honey. Honey doesn't work on these people so what is left is to offer them the Darwin Award. No, it won't make them get vaccinated... but yes, humankind's gene pool will be thankful for the elimination of these dumb people from the pool.

in sorry then. It sounds like misinterpreted your reply. I only made the fake ID McLovin comment because Superbad was playing in the background
As far as illegals, people are people and people carry the virus so why add more when we don’t have to during a pandemic? I don’t think I can be sold on any positive benefit of that

That's OK, no problem, I just didn't want more misunderstandings.

No, there are no benefits to be gained from illegal immigration, as long as you're not the owner of a restaurant, a hotel chain, a hog farm, a plantation, a construction company, a cleaning ladies business, etc., the people who profit from low-wage illegal aliens. I find it shameful and traitorous to we the American tax payers, that these businessmen offer jobs to illegals. I wish the people who offer these jobs could be severely punished. I believe that if the job source dried out, illegal immigration would come to a screeching halt.

No, there are no benefits in importing still another infected person. That person will increase the number of infected Americans. It's just that they are not the ones *driving* the contagion. They do *contribute* to the contagion but just not as the *main* factor.

Hypothetical, simplified numbers just for the sake of the argument (the real numbers are even lower than that because we don't have one illegal alien for each American as in this example, so in real life they are even less responsible for the contagion, but having the numbers using the 100 base makes it easier to see):

Say, you have 100 Americans in a border village. Say, given that our rate of community transmission is higher than that of the place of origin for these illegal aliens, that 15 Americans are infected in that border village to start with, before any aliens get there. So, you have a 15% infection rate.

Say, 100 illegal aliens sneak in, and 5 of them are infected; that is, these aliens reflect their original rate of infection, that is, 5%.

Now you have 200 people, 20 of them infected. Now the rate is 10%. So actually the illegal aliens who came in with a smaller infection rate, diluted that rate when they mixed with the locals (at least initially).

Say that the virus reproduction number is such that each infected person infects 4 others.

Therefore the 15 infected Americans infect 60 new people. The 5 infected aliens infect 20 new people.

This means that the illegal aliens did contribute to increasing the contagion, but they did so at a 3-fold smaller rate than the one caused by the American infected people.

So, while they increased the ultimate number of infected individuals, they were not the DRIVING force, given that the Americans infected 3 times more people.

    Get it?

A population coming from a place with a SMALLER transmission who arrive to a place with BIGGER transmission, by mathematical definition cannot be the ones DRIVING the contagion, although they indeed are secondary factors.

Not only this makes sense mathematically speaking, but we can see the real life demonstration of this, given that the predominant variants here are from the Northern Hemisphere. We don't see the Peruvian Lambda and the Brazilian Gamma as predominant here. We see the British Alpha and the Indian Delta. QED.

See, if instead of the neat 100 versus 100 numbers above, we got a more realistic 10 Americans for each illegal alien in that town, to keep the same proportions we'd have to have 200 Americans there, 30 infected (15%), and 20 illegal aliens there, 1 infected (5%). In this situation you'd have the Americans infecting 120 people (30x4), and the sole infected illegal alien infecting 4 (1x4). So, the Americans would be driving the contagion 30-fold more than the illegal aliens. Again, it's utterly impossible for the aliens to be the driving force. Actually, to suppose that, is quite preposterous, in terms of statistics.

But sure, why import any illegal alien at all? There are multiple good reasons to refrain from that, and to stop them at the border and prevent them from coming in (including due to the virus). It's just that they are not, like DeSantis pretends, the force that is *driving* the contagion. When DeSantis says so, he is trying to scapegoat them and deflect blame for his own failed policies. That's what I don't like. I have no sympathy for illegal aliens whatsoever and would like to see them all stopped at the border and/or deported, but I don't like to see scapegoating as a tool to avoid acknowledging one's failed policies.

Of course DeSantis' base will gobble this up, very naively, given that they are already predisposed against illegal aliens and happy to blame them. "Oh sure, it's the damn illegal aliens' fault; it's not the fault of our fine governor!" That is just not true, and as a scientist, I have a profound allergy for fake news and made-up arguments. Science is concerned with facts, and the facts say that the illegal aliens from south of the border are not the ones *driving* the Florida surge which is based on a northern hemisphere variant (Delta). At best (or I should say, at worst) the aliens are a small and secondary contributing factor.
