I'm OK with this and hope everyone also is. I also hope this law serves as a deterrent against child rape and would like to compare the current statistics of child rape to what it will be in 5 years, if child rape goes waaay down, then more states should consider a similar law.

So see, this starts the slippery slope(that is inevitable), in that the position of many is essentially to kill off pedophiles. Which, to be blunt: Would be genocide of pedophiles(and if not for the obviously immoral and amoral proposition that the word genocide carries, everyone would nod in agreement.)

But not only would it be condoning genocide, we would have to admit in part to a Hitlerian theory of undesirables: Pedos are undesirable, therefore to be culled off. Which would make the war we fought, a little less meaningful if we agree with him in part.

Essentially, I'm all for life in prison without the possibility of parole but not genocide, because that puts us in agreement with the monsters of the world.

I don't think there is any evidence supporting a death penalty being a particularly effective deterrent for anything, especially the crimes of "insanity" or "passion" they're typically applied to. The people who commit these kind of crimes are rarely making considered calculations of risk vs benefit and even if they did, the possibility of (eventual) execution is necessarily going to be seen as worse than life in prison as a known child sex offender (some offenders might even prefer it).

As for determining the specific impact of this change, I expect that would be difficult given that there will be a relatively small number of offences that could reasonable fall under this change, and any relatively low crime figures tend to naturally shift up and down regardless.

Sounds good. Won’t negatively impact anyone I care about.

The DP sadly doesn’t work as intended. IN OBVIOUS cases it should be used swiftly and often. The fact you can sit on death row for a decade appealing reality, trivializes what is a swift and far cheaper solution than decades in prison.

A criminal who is put to death has a 100% chance of never reoffending.

I'm torn, although putting a child molester in Genpop is almost always a death sentence.. So at very least life in prison is fine by me..

This is an Unconstitutional Law being passed to force a test case to get the SCOTUS to overrule Kennedy v Louisiana.
And, since it was a 5-4 decision with Kennedy, Stevens, Souter, Ginsburg, Breyer in the Majority:
There is a good chance that the current court (with the 3 extreme RW Reactionaries appointed by Trump) will reverse the holding in Kennedy v Louisiana.
Kennedy v. Louisiana, 554 U.S. 407 (2008.), is a landmark decision by the Supreme Court of the United States which held that the Eighth Amendment's Cruel and Unusual Punishments Clause prohibits the imposition of the death penalty for a crime in which the victim did not die and the victim's death was not intended.

If the goal is for them to also murder the children, this law makes a lot of sense

Genocide is so over used and used wrongly that the word means nothing. When we execute murderers are we committing "genocide"? Pedophiles and murderers are not a race or gender....

THat said I'm not keen on death penalty for crimes that don't involve a heinous murder.

Rapers of children need to be removed from society. I'll not bicker over which method achieves this, tho I do prefer whichever is cheapest... If they could live peaceably forever away from children, cool. Til then, just make them go away, I won't be asking questions.

I think the banning of AI generated porn is something else. I understand there is a dynamic of escalation at play, but so is there with drinking and drunk driving. Pre-crime is not the road we should be going down. No victim = no crime, imo. This sounds like the enforcement of morality more than the protection of children. And I am very much opposed to the enforcement of morality just for morality's sake.

That isn't deterrence though, and it's practically the same for someone sentenced to life without parole (especially when those sentenced to death spend decades on death row).

The death penalty is way more effective than probation.

An innocent person who has wrongfully been put to death has a 0% chance of being cleared and released.

Below is what qualifies for the DP:
I'm pretty sure the evidence required will be strong, such as videos of the pervs raping a kid or DNA.

That's why DNA evidence should be used in those cases

Even after reading the Fox link, I still don't see the need for this law that current law isn't addressing already. In other words, this smells of another manufactured outrage.

Has there actually been an increase in child sexual crimes? The article does not say.

As for the AI angle on this, not really certain what you think this is going to accomplish. Already, a lot of the companies that have AI image generators out there have restrictions in place to prevent realistic images like this, even the adult sites have enough handrails in place to prevent these types of images.

People just love to beat up on pedophiles, but don't even bother to read up on the topic. Not all folks who suffer from this mental aberration act on it. That they are conscious of it doesn't make their desires go away. I'd rather a pedophile get his rocks off with fake images rather than real children.

This is all based on the false premise that someone is born a pedophile.

People arenot born attracted to children, and if they are, they aren't necessarily acting on it. I don't think they should be treated the same as an ethnic group.

I would also think that the harshest penalty would be for people exploiting multiple children to sell porn or worse.
And those people doing that may not even be attracted to children, just the money and found children easy to exploit.

Castration would be more humane than jail and death and help prevent the person from having such desires. But of course people prefer traditional methods over compassion and reason.

I used to be enthusiastically in favor of the death penalty.

    Not anymore

Now I'd like to see it replaced with life in prison in solitary confinement.

I am fine with lwop, the gov murdering innocent people not a good move

sometimes the inmates have no victims, sometimes they are the victims...

    http://www.forejustice.org/wc/ray_krone_JD_vol2_i9.htm

also, would say, this should not be for consensual underage sex between two young ones in high school, etc... personally I think they need to move 9th grade back to jr high - that way 12th graders less likely to date 9th graders

we need Epstein's list, if we're going to take child rape serious, we need to take that case serious - crazy how all that staying under wraps

as far as the law, I want real child rapists punished.... not given a get out of jail free card (death) - there is a reason those that can, do kill themselves before the cops get them in heinous crimes suck as this.... to avoid punishment

Ultimately pesos are undesirables. But I only care about people's actions, not desires. If they are attracted to children and cannot help it, that's one thing. It's another to act on it.

It will also be interesting to see the stats as the OP suggested, if allowed to remain in a place.
