No. More likely it is putting their district above party. While the democrats are disciplined politically and speak with a unified voice, the republicans are the opposite. They tolerate individual positions and need to work through them. There are republicans in the House that represent blue districts, for example. They are working through the differences as well as some personal relationship problems. When they are done there will be a speaker. It isn't really hurting anything yet. Be glad that they aren't spending your money at the moment.

Sorry, I didn't mean to include you in the ranks of taxpayers. We will exclude you from my comment.

That's likely true, but voting your conscience is always appropriate.

In general, and anytime before the MAGA era, that would have been true, but one needs to have a sound and sane conscious to begin with and I just don't see that with this crop of right-wing clowns.

And, again, whether you're conscience agrees with my own, voting your own conscience is always appropriate.
Representative government doesn't function when people game the system. It only functions when every voting person votes their conscience so the result achieved is ACTUALLY what people ACTUALLY want, not some lesser evil they're willing to stomach for now and undermine.

If that means things like the recent speaker ****ery, where no representative is chosen because no one meets the bare minimum: THATS A FEATURE OF THE SYSTEM NOT A BUG

Fake News, Hakeem lost again. Has anyone been on the ballot for speaker and lost more than Hakeem?

WATCH: CNN Political Analyst Hakeem Soundly Trounced, Again!

'Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.) is the new Speaker of the House, receiving the vote of every single Republican (except for Wisconsin's Derrick Van Orden, who is in Israel but who tweeted his support for Johnson early Wednesday) while leaving Democrats pouting and sulking over the fact that they can't use a Speakerless House against the GOP majority anymore.'

'the chief Democrat/media complaint about Johnson is that he is pro-life and a so-called "election denier," the latter of which House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.), a 2016 election denier, took a shot at prior to handing over the gavel to Johnson earlier Wednesday.'

'CNN’s @GloriaBorger frets @RepMikeJohnson is “hard to demonize” and though he’s “hugely conservative” she concedes “he’s not the devil incarnate.”'

I agree that voters should vote their conscience, but legislators need to be held to a higher standard. They need to understand the difference between sticking to principles and compromising. This "never give an inch" entrenchment does the country no good.

Keep in mind, that these rules are the ones designed by them. They are the majority, and they decided on the rules.

Its not never give an inch entrenchment. Its voting your conscience. If that leads to deadlock because the public is deadlocked, the only way out is the PAIN caused BY deadlock.
People don't learn if they don't suffer the consequences.

House Approves Resolution Backing Israel In New Speaker's First Move
    [IMG]

'The House on Wednesday approved a resolution that expressed strong support for Israel, the first bill brought to the floor after Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) was elected as the chamber’s new speaker.'

'The resolution passed in a vote of 412-10 and says that the US "stands" with Israel in the wake of the October 7 Hamas attack and as Israel is relentlessly bombing Gaza. The resolution reaffirmed the US commitment to providing military aid to Israel and said Congress will work to pass more.'

The Nine Democrats of the Hamas-Caucus 'voted against the resolution, including Reps. Jamaal Bowman (NY), André Carson (IN), Cori Bush (MO), Al Green (TX), Summer Lee (PA, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY), Ilhan Omar (MN), Delia Ramirez (IL) and Rashida Tlaib (MI).'

One Republican also voted against as he was concerned that it could lead to the introduction of US troops into the war.
