Makedde, you should be ashamed of yourself and perhaps you should consider resigning as a moderator since this post is nothing but flamebait.

Your post is either one of the most audacious or most stupid ones you have ever posted and you have posted some doozies. You post a poll asking if people think The Bible should be placed in the fiction, non-fiction or some other section and then your first post ask if Christians would have a problem placing it with other works of fiction.

Your post was purposely insulting and should have been deleted.

If it wasn't against the terms of service, I would tell you exactly what I think of you for posting such underhanded crap.

Number 220 in the Dewey Decimal system. Religion, Philosophy etc section
    http://library.duke.edu/divinity/help/bibleddc.pdf

It couldn't really go in the Fiction section - because it is an anthology of fictional stories. If could I suppose be put in the literature section with other anthologies.

Most Christians acknowledge that the Bible is a work (or works) of fiction - albeit based on a real person.

It is only the really stupid fundamentalist ones that think it is all true.

WMaybe the poll was Mak's polite way of asking - "how many fundamentalist whackjobs are there out there"?

Once again, look at the theist. Its OK to insult peoples intelligence about some myth by insisting that myth is real, but question that myth in any way shape or form, its flaimbait nonsense.

Its a two way street Frogger. Too bad you don’t understand this.

Sorry you couldn't understand what I posted, sorry, but really not very surprised.

Had Makedde stopped at the poll, even though it was an extremely poorly set up poll, I would have not had the same problem with it. As soon as Makedde posted her flamebait, she crossed the line.

You believe religion to be false, I believe religion, specifically Christianity to be true. We can differ in our view of religion but what we shouldn't do is set up false parameters as Makedde did. Her post was flamebait, plain and simple.

I perfectly understand your post. You do not want debate on theism. That’s what this boils down to.

You see this as an attack on your 'holy book'. A book that you want off limits. It wouldn’t have mattered who posted the poll, your reaction would be just the same.

You're right, Frogger. But remember, the rule on this forum is anything goes in the Religion section. That's why nobody but atheists and a few thick-skinned Believers post here. It's a snakepit.

    Overreact much? Deleted?

    It wasn't insulting at all.

It's a work of fiction, as everyone knows and it belongs in the Religion section (along with books on the AGW hypothesis, etc.).

And, for those thinking of going down to the library to read one, they can easily be obtained for free by simply writing to a church or religious organisation and requesting one.

    Right next to the Bible.

Why would it be any different?

Wow, nice flamebait thread! If a non-moderator posted a thread like this, it would be deleted pretty quickly.

What's funny too is that the same people who have no problem bashing Christianity in threads like this would be the first ones to throw around "bigotry" labels in threads about Islam and the Qur'an. Hypocrisy at its finest.

Oh, by the way, I'm an agnostic/atheist, but this thread is against site rules. I guess mods are above the law.

I was thinking depending on how you were interpreting it ..if you read it as life guide the "others" section along with philosophy, astrology, myths, Wicca, ancient religions...but it could be in fiction as well if you read it as short stories/fairy tales...

What type of response do you think the OP expected?

How is asking where a Bible belongs in a library flamebait? Its a simple question, just because you don't like it doesn't make it flamebait.

a calm and balanced one?...an irrational reaction to a logical question is where the problem lies not the question...the OP was not worded in a hostile or disrespectful manner...

using your interpretation every topic can be potential flame-bait to someone...I just came from and thread and political thread and three posts in someone flew into an irrational rant with several posts, the OP was straightforward the response was the flame...

if every sensitive topic was avoided because someone may lose their cool we wouldn't have much to talk about other knitting and fishing...

This thread is closed. Not because I don't think it should stay open but because apparently an atheist can't have an opinion on religion without it being deemed flamebait.
Obviously the OP wasn't intended to be taken that way and anyone who know me would know that, but hey, that doesn't matter, does it?

    I give up.
