WASHINGTON — Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., continues to draw the ire of his Republican colleagues in the House weeks after he led the ouster of Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., from the speakership, with some of his detractors privately floating expelling him from Congress.

Several Republican House members, many of whom are still angry at Gaetz for his antics that have impeded McCarthy and the majority of the conference from passing legislation, have begun to discuss Gaetz’ ongoing investigation by the House Ethics Committee in the wake of the expulsion of embattled former Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y.

Leading up to Santos’ expulsion, multiple opponents of his removal publicly voiced their concerns about expelling a member who had not yet been convicted of a crime, which would overturn the precedent set by Congress in modern times.

One of those members was Gaetz himself, who openly defended Santos on the House floor.

But Chubs was going to go over his indictment line by line and prove his innocence when the time was right, he said to reporters right before being booted from Congress.

Two of his campaign associates already plead guilty and will probably have to testify against him if they cut a deal.

Federal prosecutors on Monday said in a court filing that they are “engaged in plea negotiations” with former Rep. George Santos of New York to potentially resolve his pending criminal fraud case.

The disclosure came in a letter from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn to Judge Joanna Seybert, proposing a joint agenda with Santos’ lawyer for a previously scheduled status conference Tuesday in Long Island federal court.

“The parties are presently engaged in plea negotiations with the goal of resolving this matter without the need for a trial,” prosecutors wrote. “The parties wish to continue those negotiations over the next thirty days.”

A lawyer for Santos did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the letter, which was the first time that prosecutors had publicly said there were plea negotiations in the case.

'George Santos Files Federal Lawsuit Against Jimmy Kimmel'

'Former Representative George Santos filed a federal lawsuit against late night TV host Jimmy Kimmel on Saturday, alleging that Kimmel deceptively obtained Cameo videos of him which he then aired on his ABC talk show.

Santos, a New York Republican, was expelled from the House in early December 2023 following a scathing House Ethics Committee report, in which the then-congressman was accused of using his campaign funds for personal use, engaging in "fraudulent conduct" and filing "false or incomplete reports" to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) while running for office in 2022. Santos, meanwhile, has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to charges related to a federal criminal investigation.

After he was ousted, Santos turned to Cameo, an app where celebrities can sell personalized videos. For a segment on his show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Kimmel submitted at least 14 video requests for Santos under fake names, according to Santos' lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court. Kimmel then shared clips Santos sent him on his show last December in a segment titled, "Will Santos Say It?" "I didn't say they were from me. I just wrote them and sent them to find out 'Will Santos Say It,'" Kimmel said on his show.

Santos is not only suing Kimmel, but ABC and its parent company Disney for copyright infringement, fraudulent inducement, breach of contract and unjust enrichment. The ex-congressman is seeking $150,000 per infringement for statutory damages.'

'Scarcely three months after he was expelled from the House of Representatives and bitterly swore his intent never to return, George Santos went back on his word and declared his intent to run again.

Mr. Santos made the announcement on Thursday evening after returning to Washington to attend the State of the Union address, where he made use of the lifetime floor privileges given to members of the House. And as he had done throughout his brief tenure on Capitol Hill, he attempted to seize the spotlight, posting the news on social media in the middle of President Biden’s speech.

The disgraced former representative, who was expelled from office after an overwhelming bipartisan vote and faces 23 felony counts in an unresolved criminal case, made his announcement on Thursday evening on social media. He said the decision had followed “a lot of prayer” and consultation with friends and family members.

Mr. Santos will not run for his old seat, in Long Island and Queens, for which Tom Suozzi, a Democrat, recently won a special election. Instead, Mr. Santos said that he would attempt to unseat Representative Nick LaLota in New York’s First Congressional District, on Long Island’s eastern end.'

I gave to agree with Scamto that the Republican party "falls for everything" they fell for his lies and swindles and elected him then among Republicans, 105 members voted to kick him out, and 112 voted against doing so.

That said,there's no denying that Santos and Menendez are twins separated at birth
