Indicted Republican lawmaker George Santos expelled from U.S. House

For the people who vote a crook in to change and throw him out requires a recall election, starting with the gathering of many thousands of verified voter signatures. It takes a lot of money to launch and run, meaning the backing won't be the voters, but some special interest. Then it will take many months or even years, with a low chance of success.

If you abuse the duties of your job where you are employed, I'd be that once your employer found out, you would be unemployed in very short order. Members of Congress are OUR employees.

It will never be possible for the voters to identify a rotten candidate in advance, or in some cases get them to use rational judgment.
We have to accept that such people will sometimes get elected, and have a way to remove them when they violate their duty. That has to be based on standards of conduct, which do exist now- but aren't enforced. Congress cannot and will not clean it's own house.

If you hired someone to manage your property and finances and found he was defrauding you, what would you do? Get rid of him. Prosecution may come later, but taking them out of the position to do damage comes first. Even if there is no criminal charge, that person's obligations must be met, or they are not doing their job.
It's as simple as saying if you don't DO your job, you LOSE your job.

Being elected does not permit the person to ignore responsibility, it demands responsibility. Failure to enforce the rules that specify that and create consequences quickly makes those rules meaningless- and that is precisely the condition of Congress today.

The enforcement of rules has to be done by an independent control, not by Congress itself. As one saying goes-

"The government has investigated itself thoroughly, and found it did nothing wrong."

The citizens are paying the bills. The citizens have a right to honest service from politicians. They have the right of oversight of their politicians, by citizens who are not in the service of politicians.
Until we find a way to have citizens overseeing and enforcing the ethics of Congress- there will be none, only cosmetic recitals with no teeth.

 

Which version? He has said two diametrically opposed things over the years in regards to impeachment.

 

I am a staunch democrat. I can not wait for Menendez to be investigated, fired and tried in whichever order necessary. I do acknowledge though that it takes a little time. Let's do like for Santos and have a thorough investigation first before we do all of the above shall we?

 

Santos is probably really angry and confused that he isn't popular and protected the way Shaved Tribble has been.

I don't think Trump would win. Why would a majority vote for someone that has been impeached twice and indicted several times? I'd rather have someone like Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, or perhaps Chris Christie win the Republican nomination. George Santos ought to vanish into oblivion.

WASHINGTON — A New York man who is running for the congressional seat previously held by George Santos was convicted this week of charges relating to the Jan. 6 riot after he testified at his trial that he didn't know Congress convened inside the Capitol.

Philip Sean Grillo, of Queens, was found guilty Tuesday of the felony charge of obstruction of an official proceeding, along with a series of misdemeanors like entering restricted grounds and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building, the Justice Department said in a news release.

Grillo, 49, entered and exited the Capitol on Jan. 6 multiple times, at least once through a broken window, according to the Justice Department. While he was inside the Capitol, Grillo was interviewed on camera about why he was there. “I’m here to stop the steal,” he said, according to the Justice Department. “It’s our f---ing House!” During the riot, Grillo recorded videos of himself in the Capitol. “We f---ing did it, you understand? We stormed the Capitol,” Grillo said in one video, according to the Justice Department. “We shut it down! We did it!”
