"Former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows lost his effort to block a subpoena from the Jan. 6th Committee on Monday, after a Donald Trump-appointed federal judge found the lawmakers were protected by the Constitution’s speech or debate clause.

“Without a doubt, the Select Committee’s investigation of the January 6th attack is legitimately tied to Congress’s legislative functions,” U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols found in a 27-page opinion. “The Court of Appeals held in Trump v. Thompson that the investigation into the causes and circumstances surrounding the breach of the Capitol ‘plainly has a valid legislative purpose.'”

The January 6th Committee issued the subpoena to Meadows in September 2021, with the chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.), writing that the ex-chief of staff “engaged in multiple elements of the planning and preparation of efforts” to overturn Trump’s defeat.

Meadows went to federal court later that year in December, asking the judge to “invalidate” the subpoenas."

Washington CNN — The House select committee investigating January 6 on Monday interviewed the driver of then-President Donald Trump’s presidential vehicle on the day of the US Capitol attack, multiple sources tell CNN.

In recent days, the panel has interviewed a growing number of Secret Service agents and officials as part of its investigation, including the one-time head of former Vice President Mike Pence’s security detail, Tim Giebels; former Secret Service agent John Gutsmiedl; agency spokesman Anthony Guglielmi; and the Secret Service agent who was in the lead car of Trump’s motorcade on January 6.

CNN reported last week that the committee was in the process of scheduling the interview for the driver of Trump’s presidential vehicle. The committee has not interviewed the driver previously, sources tell CNN, who was a key eyewitness to Trump’s behavior in his presidential SUV on the day of the Capitol attack that the panel has been investigating for months. The name of the driver of Trump’s SUV has not been publicly revealed. CNN has reached out to Secret Service for comment.

The select committee declined to comment to CNN. In late June, former White House staffer Cassidy Hutchinson testified publicly that former Secret Service Assistant Director Tony Ornato, who was in the car with Trump, told her that Trump got so angry when he was told he could not go to the Capitol on January 6 after his speech that morning that he reached up toward the front of the vehicle to grab at the steering wheel with one hand and lunged at Robert Engel, his Secret Service agent on that day, with the other."

And yet the Georgia DA has still yet to file an actual indictment, hell the DOJ has yet to fill an indictment on this manner. But more broadly to the point of contention here, is the false correlation made by the House and the House's lawyers. They're perfectly within their argument to object to the events that happened at 1/6, but the electors are not part of the same. They are two distinctly differing events, occurring in a similar time frame but they cannot be logically connected.
