The US has absolutely no right to choke off the economy of a foreign nation for reasons that have not been substantiated. Trump's claim that Iran broke the nuclear deal is a lie. They did not. To carry through with threats and sanctions upon Iran is just not justified. Trump is following the advice of a National Security Advisor for the US that has absolutely zero experience and zero credibility to serve as NSA. John Bolton is nothing more than a war-mongering conservative, he's a conservative political commentator, that's all he is. He thinks the US can easily achieve regime change in whatever country he chooses. That's not how things work. If you don't like the leadership, deal with them through diplomatic relationships, not through threats and sanctions. This is why John Kerry was so successful dealing with Iran, he used respect first, and to any Iranian, respect is the most important thing to bring to any negotiation.

Now Iran sees how Trump treats N. Korea. Two years ago he threatened them with 'fire and fury' and today he and Kim are exchanging love notes and praises. Kim Jong-un scored big time with Trump. He got what no other US president would give his dictatorship -- recognition and praise. The N. Korean propaganda machines are still whirling from all the wonderful press they received from a US president. In the end, it achieved nothing for the US because N. Korea is never going to relinquish their nuclear program or agree to UN inspections of their nuclear sites. It's just never going to happen.

Iran knows that in order to get Trump to behave and stop threatening them is to develop their nuclear program until the day comes that they do have nuclear missiles capable of reaching Israel. Then Trump will have zero leverage and there will only be two options. Come to the table to deal with Iran diplomatically -- or -- face a nuclear holocaust in the Middle East.

The fantasy enemies in your head is not a sound basis for policy. Are you one of those folks that believes all the Russiagate propaganda ? - Are you one of those that believes that the voter knowing "The Truth" about a candidate (such as what Clinton did to Sanders) harmed our electoral process. I don't think so.

So if you recognize Orwellian doublespeak propaganda in one instance - why not in others ? Or is it that you only recognize this propaganda for issues that you disagree with - while completely gulping it down in the case of an issue you agree with - followed by spouting meaningless platitudes such as "appeasing enemies" - or were you not talking about Kim and Putin - because you agree with those instances of appeasement.

Then there is the glaring cases where it is not our enemies - The Europeans are stark raving out of their minds over the sanctions "messing with our sovereignty" - and they are going their own way - as in not with us but against us - doing deals with Russia and China - while we are running around bashing them and other nations into submission with a club.

So in a way - yes .. the Europeans are tired of appeasing their enemy. .

No, they said they couldn't make a deal until they knew where they stood, I don't blame them frankly. Once Britain goes others might follow but we'll see, until we know the shape of Brexit everything is just speculation.

We don't want anything of the sort, we just want freedom of the seas, their ship was sanctions busting, if they don't want it seized, don't sanctions bust.

    Link.

For what it's worth.....I disagree with the US sanctions. It choked Japan into WW2, and now it is choking Iran. Why? Because it does not want Iran to be able to have the toys the West has.

    Nah.

Get your nose out of the ME, Team USA. You do not have a place there.......other than if you impose your might.

To deliver oil to a customer. For same reason American tankers are in baltics to deliver oil to Poland.

    Syria allegedly.
The tanker probably tried to go the long way round to avoid being seized.

That's what is reported. Pretty obvious. Short route through the Suez Canal. Avoid that.....south around South Africa, north and hope you get passed Gibralter.

It's not uncommon for tankers to go around Africa. The Suez Canal is expensive.

There are some ships that simply can't go through the canal. I don't know if this is one of them.

Why are you so interested in this question?
