And if the Chinese turn on him, Putin is well and truly FUGGED-solid!

Indeed, a very great deal now depends on what Xi Jinping actually does, going forward... because it already seems like an eternity since Xi and Putin were seeming to be 'big buddies' back during the Winter Olympics in Beijing....

It already has NATO on its border.

That is true. Things aren't going very well for your guy.

That would be a refreshing change from you. Sadly, I'm not seeing it here.

If only we could be sure Putin would never use his nukes we might even wish he would take on Finland. I think he would be delivered to the Hague in chains very quickly.

The Russians had enough problems with Finland in 1939.

Russians lost over 100,000 in a 3 month war.

    And this from China:

"...The Chinese Foreign Ministry responded by saying that it categorically rejects US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's comment that China's unwillingness to condemn Russia is incompatible with the position of the country in question regarding the UN charter.

The countries that should really feel uncomfortable are those that believe they have won the Cold War and can dominate the world, ignoring the concerns of other countries..."

"...Meanwhile, the Chinese Commerce Ministry announced today that Beijing will take the necessary measures to safeguard the commercial interests and legitimate rights of its companies, if they are affected by the impact of U.S. sanctions imposed against Russia over Ukraine..."

"...China opposes any form of unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law," Gao Feng, a chinese ministry spokesman, said during a regular press conference.

If Russia needs Chinese aid ... the word has changed: usually it was China to need Russian aid.
Russia will be a satellite of China and Putin will have to learn Chinese.

But Chinese leaders are smart. They are waiting ... to get on the chariot of the winner.

The Chinese are about as reliably predictable as the weather here in the Rocky Mountains... you really cannot believe a single thing the Chinese say, so, if you're smart, you watch what they DO!

We all may learn somewhat more when Biden and Xi have their little 'chat' tomorrow. Let's just hope that Biden doesn't make a sputtering, incoherent ass out of himself... again.

It's China that needs Russia backing to fight the US. Xi knows well who China's enemies are. Frankly, I find the hutzpah unbelievable. After having insulted and attacked China for months if not years, and then trying to destroy their Olympic Games, Blinken, Nuland and now Jake started calling up Xi to go against Russia.

It shows how bloated their heads are with hubris. They think they can act and do whatever they want, and when they call, everyone will come crawling to them on their knees. Maybe it's time they came back to earth before they're knocked down.

Take that you fools of misery.
For we the gods of lofty see,

are watching you from our great height
and snicker at the motley sight
of lesser beings, not as bright as we.

For as you know we're keen and wise,
that's why we delve in tricks and lies,

so we can rule your land and State
and be the masters of your fate.

For unlike you such lowly fools
    who follow banal moral rules.

We make our own, for it's our right.
And why we reign in our great height

and not on earth, but in our stead

of hubris and of bloated head

We're the ones that have proven ourselves to be unreliable with our actions in Serbia, Iraq, Libya and Syria. In contrast Putin has always been loyal and has always treated others with respect regardless of their faith, color and ethnicity - and they're grateful for it.

Thousands of battle hardened Syrians have volunteered to fight for Russia in gratitude for what Putin did for Syria - as well as other volunteers from the Middle East and Africa.

As for Zalensky, he has ISIS.

Getting more desperate by the day Jenny. ISIS now? oh dear. Next you'll be claiming Zelensky is the Antichrist.

Ukraine has the entire Western world on his side - all the civilized nations. There are more volunteers than Ukraine can train and HUGE amounts of supplies pouring across the border from all over the world. Russia can't even get Central Asian nations to vote for them in the UN. China is playing both sides despite Putin getting on his knees and begging them for a few scraps. Maybe if he is a good by Xi will pat him on the head and throw him a biscuit.

So Russia has Iran, Armenia and Syria, and the Syrians are going to cost. How pathetic. Nobody wants the stink of Russia no them. Well, nobody with a shred of decency.

He can always start WW3 if his generals let him. Meanwhile, we should continue arming the Ukrainians. Putin will have a hard time subduing a country with 40m people.

It is unlikely that Finland will be next. Most likely the Baltic countries are next in line. And they understand it. For example, they canceled the parade of SS veterans, which had been held for many years. And the parade of SS veterans is a good reason for Russia to crush this Baltic snake nest.
By the way, the Baltic countries are members of NATO. So let's see if NATO has eggs. Or this ridiculous organization can only squeal.
However .... If diplomats write such texts, then this obviously means something.
But anyway, I think that the fascist Baltic countries are in the queue.
Especially considering the fact that in the Baltic states there are military from the USA, Britain, Germany...etc. That is, the challenge will be serious.
Well? Are you ready for the apocalypse?

It's funny to read your comments with ridiculous bravado.
Maybe you first look at the map and find out what Ukraine is like?
Ukraine is the second largest country in Europe. Ukraine is the most militarized country in Europe. For 8 years in Ukraine, military fortifications were being built against the DPR and LPR. Multi-layered fortifications. The EU and the US supply weapons to Ukraine more than they supplied weapons to Hitler ....
And in the end, in three weeks, the Russians with small forces, without the use of carpet bombing (as the United States does), without the use of really powerful weapons, practically defeated the main forces of the Ukrainian army.
At the same time, one must understand that the Russians surrounded most of the most combat-ready military formations in Ukraine and soon these encircled forces will be destroyed or surrendered. This will free the Russians and they will more actively destroy the remaining less combat-ready Ukrainian units.
By the way, how long was "Desert Storm"? Against the 17 million population of Iraq? (In Ukraine - more than 41 million people) At the same time, Iraq is smaller in territory than Ukraine, half of the territory of Iraq is a desert (Ukraine is densely populated throughout). And especially considering the fact of the mass bombing of Iraq (the Russians do not carry out mass bombing in Ukraine), and the presence of old weapons in Iraq, unlike Ukraine, where the West literally overwhelmed Ukrainians with modern weapons.
In general, it is immediately clear that you have nothing to do with the army and, accordingly, do not understand what you are writing about.
It is better to talk with any military specialist about how the Russians fight.

They are actually turning back lot of volunteers, even those with military training, because they come with the wrong motivation. They can afford to be selective, which means they are not desperate. In the meanwhile, over 300 000 Ukrainians have returned to fight after taking their families to safety in other countries.

Putin it praying for people in Africa and terrorists Syria to help him, which is a massive sign of desperation. These threats against Finland may have been a part of his initial plan, which assumed Ukraine would fold in a matter of days, but at this point it seems beyond foolish for Russia to be planning anything other how to save face while pulling out of Ukraine.

LOL. Must be tough being Russian at a time like this seeing your country getting humiliated like this.

The biggest problem is going to be equipping them. I have very reliable info that other nations are sending pickup trucks to turn into 'technicals'. Good idea for hit & run warfare.

My bet is that the Finland thing is just more desperation. He is playing on the Russian obsession with being victims while also threatening Finland. I don't think he had or has any intention to attack Finland.

....and his response is to dream about destroying more independent nations. Tells you all you need to know.

You would think they have small arms for everyone, but if not, they can help in support roles. Those technical seem to work well in urban warfare.

Urban warfare isn't their best use. It is outside, doing hit & run raids on 'soft' targets. You don't want to go toe to toe with anything even lightly arnoured in one of these, but in muddy conditions they are are a great way to move quickly though areas the Russians can't easily get to.

4WD pickup trucks ar also great ways to transport small teams close to ambush points and get them out when they are done.

There has been precious little in American foreign policy since World War II that I have thought was beneficial to our country... but, I was directing my comment to China, and its characteristic complete LACK of veracity.... in short, I wouldn't trust anything China says as far as I could spit directly into a one hundred mile-per-hour headwind!

*** We will see shortly how this really 'plays out'. Russia wants to cripple NATO while it uses energy supplies to build wealth and power and dominate all of Europe. China, for its part, wants Taiwan, along with complete suzerainty over the entire 'Asia-Pacific' sector. ***

Putin and Xi began planning their joint efforts to accomplish each separate goal from the moment they realized that the Trump 'era' was over, but they need to get their 'heavy-lifting' done before a new Congress is seated in Washington D. C. next January -- because the likelihood of a continued, smothering Democrat dominance in government after this year is, uh, UNLIKELY.... :-D :flagus:

[IMG]. "Gotta move fast -- their congressional 'invertebrates' will be a minority next year!"

Putin does not want any dissent. Putin called those criticizing the war "traitors" and "b****rds." Now is trying to blame everybody else for the invasion he made and he decided on.

If Russia had any validity to the claims they were making, they could have gone to the UN, UNSC, UN Human Rights Commissin, etc. But he didn't, He did not say anything about this until the botched invasion that the whole world is watching. Putin underestimated how the West was to respond to such an event. And he underestimated the Ukrainian people and its armed forces.

There is history between Finland and the Russians/Soviet Union. Finland stopped a Russian invasion in 1940, albeit with the help of Nazi Germany. Today, if Russia invaded, history will repoeat itself with NATO directly interviening.

In preparation for the heightened likelihood of possible Russian hostilities, both Finland and Sweden are now carefully reconsidering joining NATO to become full partners. Link: https://www.businessinsider.com/swe...after-russias-ukraine-attack-2022-3?r=US&IR=T
