"Crony Capitalism" refers to corrupt governments that show favoritism to businesses who support them. The analogy is that God apparently just gives some people faith and others no faith, then on paper acts as if the world is a fair playing ground, justifying the punishment of those he doesn't help and the rewards to those who do.
You are right - I'm also not really convinced from the concept to give always all responsibillity for everything to god. This would deny the own responsibility and freedom of decision.
