Many years ago I was helping take care of an elderly White man (I'm a nurse) and he told me "you'd be pretty if you wasn't a colored girl". I was taken aback somewhat, but I managed to smile and say "Thank you, I think". Just the other day my daughter told me an older White man told her the same thing. That she'd be pretty if she wasn't Black. I guess even compliments have to filtered thru the screen of racism.:frown
Well overall black women tend to be less attractive, so no surprise when you see a pretty black girl it is a rarer thing.
It is the best a racist can do. Consider the source, smile and walk away, there nothing you can do that will cure what is wrong with them. MOD EDIT - Rule 3
I never said I was not racist, Well racialist is more accurate. I believe in evolution, and think that humans do differ, just like different breeds of cats are different. I think Blacks have advantages over whites in some areas, whites over blacks in others. In beauty this is not even a competition when it comes to females, white women are considered by the majority to be more beautiful, more attractive.
That sounds like a weird way to compliment you, but for older guys, who've grown up with it reinforced that Black women are somehow lessor in attractiveness, it may be a case of his eyes telling him something that contradicts his upbringing. So I guess it is a compliment when you consider the source and what it took to get there.
In gustibus..... I don't think it's racist to say that white features are the one I find attractive, just as I don't regard it as homophobic to say I'm not attracted to men. OTOH I can see how the young Leonardo de Caprio was quite attractive to gays and I'd do Beyonce in a New York minute I think it was quite a compliment myself. The guy was saying you were attractive to him, and attractive enough to overcome his developed taste in the manner. He was old and quite possibly thought you would regard a standard compliment from him as chatting you up and "creepy" and so wanted to distance himself from it.
It isn't racist to say that white features are what you find attractive. It is racist to say that white women are more attractive than black in a blanket statement.
I hope your daughter will laugh and take it as a compliment .. even if its a compliment from someone who is a bit daft or inarticulate. You know black women are pretty.. and most have skin that holds up better over the long haul than us Irish girls.
The idea of what is beautiful is a social construct. What is attractive is not at all linked to race. Your statement is racist on its fact. I am going to assume you are trolling.
That's called a back handed compliment. Like you have been slapped. - - - Updated - - - Ha, had a black guy once tell me, "There is nothing uglier than an old white woman."
Many things are social constructs, beauty is affected by that in a very small way. There have been multiple studies done using babies, where beauty was quantified. Where black ladies fared less well then white ladies, unless babies are born racist or conditioned I doubt you have a case. Like I said I am a racialist, I think races are different, and there is alot of evidence to back that up from IQ scores, to athletic ability, to skin pigment, hair textures, etc.
MOD EDIT - Rule 3 http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn6355-babies-prefer-to-gaze-upon-beautiful-faces.html Newborn babies prefer to look at attractive faces, says a UK researcher, suggesting that face recognition is hardwired at birth, rather than learned. Alan Slater and his colleagues at the University of Exeter showed paired images of faces to babies as young a one day old and found that they spent more time fixated on the more attractive face. "Attractiveness is not in the eye of the beholder, it's innate to a newborn infant," says Slater. Developmental psychologists have known for years that babies have preferences for certain objects, such as high contrast images, and curvy, biological shapes. But where these preferences come from remained unknown.
Males..... - - - Updated - - - My main point was to say we are born with preferences, that was the main point you were arguing me about. MOD EDIT - Rule 3
I thought the same thing about the Oxy. But I just shook my head, did a face plant, smiled and walked away. - - - Updated - - - By the majority of what? MOD EDIT - Rule 3
http://techland.time.com/2013/11/26/dating-app-reveals-troubling-racial-preferences/ I am not the only one.
I said in an early post what we find attractive is inborn......that is different from beautiful. You made a case that race is factor and that is what I asked you to prove. You can't because there is no evidence of that. In fact what is beautiful is different for different cultures. You can keep claiming victory but you are 100% wrong and the statement that whites are more attractive than blacks is racist. Plain and simple.
interesting how any information that does not agree with you is bogus.... This only proves that a majority of that dating site prefer white, meaning I am not alone in this thinking. I do not think you can prove your position that all races are equally attractive either. I doubt any researcher will touch this subject with a ten foot poll, or risk his reputation in the age of Political correctness. But there are many polls, and statestics that do line up with my position. I doubt any favor your side, but your free to prove me wrong. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0191886910004617 Attractiveness specifically was greater for Black male faces than White male faces and among mixed-race faces. Blackness correlated with increased attractiveness. A reverse pattern was found for female faces with Whiteness being associated with attractiveness.
Of course you could always say in reply, "Well, you would be pretty cute if you were 100 years younger." LOL
