Israeli scientist Daniel Shechtman won the 2011 Nobel Prize in chemistry on Wednesday for his discovery of quasicrystals, a chemical structure that researchers previously thought was impossible.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said Shechtman's discovery in 1982 fundamentally changed the way chemists look at solid matter.
Contrary to the previous belief that atoms were packed inside crystals in symmetrical patterns, Shechtman showed that the atoms in a crystal could be packed in a pattern that could not be repeated, the academy said.

The academy said his finding was so controversial that he was asked to leave his research group.

But since then, quasicrystals have been produced in laboratories and a Swedish company found them in one of the most durable kinds of steel, which is now used in products such as razor blades and thin needles made specifically for eye surgery, the citation said.

They were discovered in nature for the first time in 2009, according to the citation.

"His battle eventually forced scientists to reconsider their conception of the very nature of matter," the academy said.

    moon has a co?

Do you know the reason them structures form such crystals?

    I do

Do you comprehend what fractals are?

How many snow flakes are the same?

ie....the concept is basic but few stand up and render such.

here is a paper rendering the progression of the science

    http://arxiv.org/PS_cache/arxiv/pdf/1101/1101.0061v1.pdf

then here is science that may get a nobel too (the community is just learning)

    http://arxiv.org/PS_cache/arxiv/pdf/1104/1104.0592v1.pdf

what is cute is that it is also from Israel

but this is only an example of evidence rendering what i have been telling people for 3 decades; paradigm shift

    "it's a light thing"

The football pattern is "quasicrystalline pattern". Those footballers must be really smart dudes.

Congratulations to him, but he wasn't born in Israel. Offering up ' Israeli ' along with an achievement as some sort of compensation for the bad reputation of a sick regime is nauseating in itself.

i saw the part about 41' (in tel aviv, when it was palestine) and wondered if anyone would catch it.

It would mean, he's an 'arab'............. giggle giggle

not to mention, his work apparently came from working in the US and then returned to palestine later.
remember, hypocrits are often biased beyond repair

No lies from me and Bishadi is correct. He was born in Palestine and trained in North America.

Sory to disappoint you, Prof. Dan Shechtman is a member of the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel.
His training was done in the Technion, Israel:

    B.Sc. 1966 (Technion)
    M.Sc. 1968 (Technion)
    Ph.D. 1972 (Technion)

    a couple points.

82' was a great year for me too........... (my research led to PNC theory (photo neuron conduction) and the math describing nature)

the existing paradigm is wrong and his work shares the same fact (any wonder what it means?)

and the fact, he was working in america when the discovery took place.

So an arab (born in tel aviv, 41' before israel even existed) came to america for research that enabled his evidence to be found........

and basically turned the current scientific understanding upside down.

the next step is to comprehend the 'energy' is what caused it.

And that is where i can help!

ie.... em is the specimen to comprehend (the light)

perhaps folks should listen more rather than rant so much
    .

    .

what i got a kick out of is 'his peers' kicked him out of the group for being a rebel, but he persisted at doing what is right (learning, learning, learning and learning) over time

ie.... who cares what people think, do what is right within your own conscious (you will know, within)

But the gloves he was wearing were made in ISRAEL, so the discovery was made by israeli hands

    +

he was humming the "Tiqva" israel national anthem the whole time......

to be a bit serius, what diffrence does it make where he was or who's money paid for the project, he's israeli and he brings us great honor. actually adds honor.

Yep, Israel needs as much honour as it can get right now. It is deeply in the red in the Bank of Honour.

So now he is an "Arab" ? LOL
One time you call him a "European immigration Jew", the next an Arab ?
He is an Israeli, a Jew, born and raised in Israel.
He was at Sabbatical in the US when he first discovered the phenomenon.
The American group he worked in that year fired him.

It makes no difference, Gilos, you are of course right. The dude was born in Tel Aviv, studied in Haifa, now a distinguished professor at Technion Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa.

He is a proud Israeli and the Islamo-nazis are grasping at straws.

    like what...............

tel aviv was not israel in 41' (it's a fact)

palestine the people of the ME are arab......... (by location)

but it wasnt israel or israeli..........

Jew is just a religious adherant of judaism. He was born in the arab lands no matter which religion he observed.

    get over it.

heck, israel is in arab lands based on the region it is located

if you were born there, you be an arab.

    fact of nature

even as you can lie to yourself all day long!
    OK............. jewish as a religion

I have no problem with that

but that 'book of life' is what i write!

you best get your head out of your behind.......... faster!

ie.... pnc theory was written when i was 16 yrs old sharing how the brain operates at the synaptic connections. That was 3 decades ago........

now imagine what a thinker has been doing since.

ie... wanna know how to live forever?

    talk about atonement?!?!?!?!?

    you best get with it!
