Well said. Thomas Paine was a perspicacious man. Our form of democracy has some flaws not shared by other forms. A perfect example. We are headed toward an election between two men, both of whom are rejected by the majority of the voters. We need to get past asking the public to engage in human resources and aim our democracy toward choosing agendas and ideology rather than people. Voters vote for fame, pretty faces and pretty words, none of which have the slightest thing to do with competence and suitability for office.

Good points. It goes to QUALIFICATIONS. (as opposed to image etc) Neither one (of the candidates) are really articulate (rules out pretty words), both are senior, one is experienced and has some age related wisdom, the other is a narcissist and wants power for power's sake ) The difference might lie in the fact that one would surround himself with quality , informed and educated staff, while the other would surround himself with sycophants that are simple yes men feeding hi s ego.) The measure of a true leader sometimes rests on the quality of his support staff. (except in dictatorships) Of the two...the seasoned senior is the better bet than the aging sociopathic narcissist who is desperate for power for power's sake.* and to use that power to get himself out of all the legal messes he is in)
This is going to be one of the more "unusual elections" to date. One of the issues might be that it is just too binary.

It will be a boring election unless the DNC replaces Biden as nominee.

In a more ideal situation, it would help if BOTH were replaced. ( with new , younger, dynamic forward thinking type of candidates )
(sigh.......... but it is what it is)

Sure but the republican party doesn't install candidates like the DNC so Trump, unfortunately, will be its nominee. In my view he will win if the DNC doesn't replace Biden and will lose if they do. I think the election result is squarely in their hands.

I doubt that independents will break in favor of the Orange Pantscrapper.

But then again, I think rationally.
