House GOP chairmen ask Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg to testify on Trump probe

WASHINGTON — Three House Republican committee chairmen sent Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg a letter Monday requesting he testify before Congress "about what plainly appears to be a politically motivated prosecutorial decision" in any potential indictment of former President Donald Trump in the prosecutor's hush money probe.

"You are reportedly about to engage in an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority: the indictment of a former president of the United States and current declared candidate for that office," the letter said.

It comes ahead of a pending New York grand jury decision in the case.

I'm in the something worse camp. Because this is a thinly veiled use of congressional power to come to Individual 1's defense. A continuation of what we've seen congressional Repubs do with respect to 1/6.

Imagine if, after a rumor that Hunter Biden's arrest was imminent started to circulate, the Dem chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee demanded the prosecutor in the case give testimony and provide documents about it.

We've already seen Trump and his bagman use the DoJ to go after the people who investigated Trump. We've seen Trump use the bully pulpit to attack Mueller, the FBI, anyone who he sees as a threat. In GA, the Repub controlled legislature has approved a bill giving them the authority to remove prosecutors if they don't like what's being investigated. I don't know, like if someone were to coerce state officials to overturn the election results in his favor.

Is this the POT playbook now? Using all manner of methods to thwart attempts to bring Trump to justice rather than letting the system work? Trying to shield him from the legal system because he is the Dear Leader and therefore above accountability?

    Hi, Lee Atwater.

Based upon the wording of the letter to District Attorney Alvin Bragg, we can at least rest easy, knowing that the Republican congressmen will be guided by the facts and not by any pre-conceived notions or agendas.

    Regards, stay safe 'n well.

I'm starting to think that democrats on the board actually want to have a second term of President Trump....

On a more serious note, is there anyone who saw Trump's call for protests of his potential arrest who didn't have a flashback to 1/6?

I'm trying, and failing, to think of another politician who would have a better chance of election due to a criminal indictment. If he gets indicted in NY, GA, and by the DoJ do you think he'll win in a landslide?

Hillary was generally the architect of this in 2016. Clearly, she wasn't right then. Do you feel that you're right now? If you galvanize the majority of the nation to feel that what is happening to Trump isn't justified, and polling data does show this to be the case, why do it? If what Soros funded DAs are doing violates the constitution to enjoin or arrest the former president, do you not understand what martyrdom is? So, by continuing to push this narrative, you're effectively sucking the oxygen from the room. You're conflating all that folks feel is wrong with DC and associating it as a beneficiary to Trump. If you don't understand that, sorry. Sweet dreams..

Enforcing the rule of law needs to be applied evenly. Current and former office holders get indicted all the time.

So you're saying that Hillary controlled how you voted in 2016, and now liberals are controlling how you will vote in 2024?

You really shouldn't let liberals have total control over your life.

The country can survive the indictment of a former POTUS. But I'm not as confident about the future of our democracy if Congress is going after the prosecutorial process.

Why should we base prosecutions on polling? That's insane.

LOL.... This is you responding in this way? Really? Since when? Of course the law needs to be applied evenly. No one says that it shouldn't. Why would a local DA be trying to push an indictment that is outside of the bounds of statute of limitations, other than to create a media event then?

If Bragg isn't doing anything wrong, then he has nothing to worry about. Right?

If Bragg is on target, he should run to D.C. and beg to testify.

The burden of proof is on Bragg. If he doesn't have credible evidence, he needs to close the case.

Bragg is trying to prosecute a Federal crime. That puts him under Federal jurisdiction.

Bragg should put the letter where it belongs, the circular file, and get on with the decision to indict or not.
